    Definitely prefer melee with weapons! If I was gonna use a ranged weapon though I prefer guns!

    Both types of builds have their uses. I personally tend to play more melee builds, though. A few of the players in my group almost always play ranged builds, or keep back builds like squishy wizards. The party always needs a tank out front, and I do play it well, so I usually go that route.

      Never under appreciate the frontliner. In my party I’m the most frontline combatant as a Battlemaster with squishy characters

    For clarification, hex warrior applies to any pact weapon you create, and you choose which weapon you create whenever you use an action to create one, so switching between ranged and melee is not limited to a daily choice by the rules.

    One thing I've noticed is when someone has high wisdom they dump Int, or vice versa, it makes sense with standard array cause you need to dump at least one stat, but the samurai social class, or any noble warrior for that matter, was expected to be quite educated

    Waiting until level 8 for extra attack on a primarily martial character is very painful, I always choose ease of play over late level maximum potential. I think if we're going with your stat distribution, I'd rather go Warlock 1-5 for all of the things you wanted from it and extra attack as soon as possible, and then finish the build off with all of your samurai goodies.

    I definitely think ranged has a lot of advantages in 5e and some of my favorite builds have been ranged. I folks default to melee whenever make weapon builds, so I like to watch more ranged ones, especially creative ones.

    I’ve had a samurai idea with a leonin that’s a tiger instead of a lion.

    I like ranged primary with melee secondary. Long bow with twin short swords as my melee.

    I know ranged is more optimal but melee is more fun and presents more unique challenges. I think it's more fun. I tend to do a mix of both though, usually with thrown weapons and spells, to add variety

    Is there a particular reason to go for 3 levels of warlock here for Charisma instead of just letting Char sit at 13 and Stacking Dex instead? While it might end up weaker in terms of RP and persuasion stuff, missing out on the 15th Samurai feature feels really bad, that extra attack would be pretty sick and make this already strong damage build even stronger imo. 2 levels in Warlock seems sufficient for Devil's Sight and another Invocation (prolly Eldritch Smite)

    • @DapperSnapperGaming
      @DapperSnapperGaming  11 месяцев назад +1

      The 3rd level in warlock is for the Pact Boon which expands our selection of weapons that can be used as pact weapons. The entire point of this build is to have a character that excels in both melee and at range. We are only able to push that with the expanded weapon selection granted to us by Pact of the Blade. If you really want Fighter 15, then you probably would be better off dropping the Ranger levels and choosing either melee or ranged instead of both like I have presented.

    I must be a contrarian because I've never built a warlock using Eldritch blast and when you ignore that cantrip suddenly the class opens up and you can use all of those cool Things That No One Ever takes like illusion on a stick or the disguise self at will. Used that in an assassin who dipped warlock so he could steal people's faces that ability is way more broken than Eldritch blast it turned a regular scouting Mission into a solo Slaughter walking through an enemy castle turning into the last person they saw in every room, easily getting the drop on guards because every new one thought they were seeing the previous co-worker that had been dispatched. Rescued the whole party and emptied the BBEG castle all without firing a single Eldritch blast. Just think of all the flexibility people are losing by tying up invocations devoted just to blasting

    I think that the melee combating it's better couse the flanking, flaking means that you can get a nat20 more easily

    • @DapperSnapperGaming
      @DapperSnapperGaming  Год назад

      The only reason I don't mention flanking, although I use a version of it at my table, is because it is technically an optional rule so I don't assume that everyone uses it. If you do use it then you are absolutely correct

  • @chrishicks1737

    I prefer melee because I always enjoy the up close and personal death to all my enemies.

  • @buffwarriors
    @buffwarriors Год назад

    Beat your samurai with your team mates to close to death before the fight. Start the fight with surprise attack from your lvl20 samurai with gwm feat. Walk away from the enemy after action surge nova damage dump. Oportunity attack from the enemy sets your hp to zero then boom activate strength before death and get full extra turn with second action surge. No magic item, no damage enhancing item, just a simple 2d6 heavy weapon and you deal avarage damage above 350 eaisily. Enjoy...

      Hey that is ok! They have released more and more as time has gone on so you may have to look across multiple books to find them, although the Samurai and Hexblade were both introduced in Xanathar's. You can check out dnd5e.wikidot.com/fighter for a comprehensive list of all fighting styles across all books.
