I really loved this comic, it really spoke to me in a intimate way. Beyond being a lover of Greek mythology, it made me want to do it a voiceover for it. I know it's different than what I usually do, but I like doing different things. - Развлечения

Ares will NEVER backstab you.
Instead, he'll facestab you 'til you no longer have a face
He will not backstab you, for only a coward would betray trust. He would openly challenge you, and when bested, acknowledge his defeat.
You're kinda meant that to khorne the god of blood and skulls in Warhammer universe
@shafiqali7051 maybe the inspiration for Khorne was Ares
the backstab is Athena's thing, if Ares kill you it will be face to face
@@Techno_Idioto Is Ares a goddamn shounen villain. "Nah blood, you beat my ass! Now you got to my dreams and you go beat that big ass bitch!"
Thor and Ares. Both brutal gods. Both gods of common people with common problems.
Yeah, sure, common problems solved with self-righteous violence and childlike anger, surely nothing bad ever comes from that.
@@max-zv7sf Ares was a god of courage and Thor was prayed to in times of plague. Mjolnir was actually a medical symbol in some places! And if you missed it, Ares in this video is shown in the nuance he deserves. Not everything can be planned for and treating a foe with honor isn't always deserved. Not to mention, Ares is loyal, and has never had a major moment of betrayal-ignoring Hephaestus for a moment.
Ironically that represents the common folk pretty well.
When whipped up into a rage the common folk are brutal, exacting, and are fueled by an unmatched fury against those they aim their fury at.
The People are Ares and Thor in the real world. They are spurned by those who call themselves "Elite" but their fury is unmatched and unbroken.
@@max-zv7sf Not to say it doesn't backfire, but some problems CAN only properly be solved through direct application of force. When all other negotiation tactics fail, that is what is left -- in all its glory, and in all its horror. It's not a good thing, nor is it necessarily bad. It simply is.
Don't forget Asura
I once read a fanstory about ares, a retelling about when the giants kidnapped him and confined him in a jar. He was essentially forgotten about until artemis and hermes found him, and it really messed him up that none of his family even remembered he was gone. He eventually overcame his trauma with the help of artemis and hermes, and he became a protector of the prisoner/hostages of war, punishing those who treated their pows unfairly or cruelly.
Funfact, that's actually not a 'fan theory' or story- it's a slightly altered real myth about a time Ares was locked away in a jar...
Basically, Aphrodite was married to Haephaestos as a cruel joke by Zeus, giving his ugliest (literally described as looking like a monster) son, God of the blacksmiths- Aphrodite as his wife-
Aphrodite HATED this, so of course, cheated on him constantly- with whom you may ask? Well, Ares of Course, the chad of the family-
When Haephastos heard of his wh--re of a wife sleeping around- he devised a trap and a plan- he created an urn, so incredibly powerfully strong that no being nor god could EVER escape it- Then lured Ares into it by putting something in t he pot ares wanted and telling him about it- when Ares reached in to grab this item- he had to put his whole upper torso in to reach the bottom- as it was a very large pot, built to his exact specifications-
Then Haephaestos pushed ares all the way into the jar and sealed it- keeping him as a prisoner for years in a pot he couldn't ever move around in- horrible really.
Ares was kidnapped by giants though. I imagine the modern addition is the “treat POWs well or else” aspect is the addition.
@@bananabanana484 Wrong, kidnapped by Haephastos, Giants are Posiedon's lackys
@@WelcomeToDERPLAND I remember hearing a version with giants. Doing a quick google search reveals that they were called the Aloadai. Sons of Poseidon and very powerful they decided to try and take Olympus and also some of the Goddesses but they just ended up getting Ares instead.
There IS a story about Ares getting kidnapped by Haephestos, but that was with a net he made that caught him while he was... accompanying Aphrodite.
Though the mythology is also super old so it wouldn't surprise me if there a handful of interpretations that change around the details some.
@@WelcomeToDERPLANDCyclopses
Athena was the Commander’s war
Ares was the soldier’s war.
Ares is surprisingly caring towards those he holds dear. After all, soldiers fight for something, usually their families

*aggressive spartan chanting*
Ares might be the only Greek god who didn't assault women. He actually killed a son of Poseidon for assaulting one of his daughters.
Ares was the father of the Amazons and involved in the lives of his mortal children. He was also good at parties, being able to be peaceful outside of war.
Athena was actually a raging misogynist, as detailed in the Oresteia, she said she'd always take the side against women.
Grammar nerd and heavy user of dictionaries!
Think you meant to call Athena a misandist, due to her dislike/hatred towards men and boys like.
But even that word would be incorrect to discribe her, considering that she would target women as well.
Many recorded myths has always shown she took after Zeus more when came to be jealous a lot of the time.
Never did understand why Gods/Goddesses evny humanity so much....
@@FreedomSkeeker Proud of being a grammar nerd. Being good at grammar comes naturally to me, and it's fun. I'm better at it than my brother with his literature degree. And I sadly don't read dictionaries much, this knowledge comes from conversing.
I wanted to call attention to Athena's misogynist traits because it is important to her character and ignored by modern people, making her an idol of feminism, which is very untrue given how ancient Greeks saw her. Ares was actually a better idol for women's rights in such a misogynist culture. To them, women were seen as so low, Athena had to transcend being a woman to be revered as a god. My sister studies these classics for her teaching jobs and keeps talking to me about how misogynistic the Greeks were.
Misanthrope would be a better all-around term for her, given her hatred and disrespect for all others, men and women included (a term brought to my vocabulary to describe Cersei Lannister).
Athena once led a revolt against Zeus to take Olympus, but he only punished the other gods, letting Athena off scot-free, because she's daddy's little goddess.
She got away with a lot, whilst Ares was constantly abused.
@@FreedomSkeeker if he is a nerd, then you're illiterate.
Misandrist is the word you're seeking.
@@ericraululyeetusdelyeetus5028 Being a nerd/geek doesn't make you prefect at grammar at all times, especially if said person has dyslexia.
However I do appreciate the correction, thank you for looking out!!
The Orestia was made by Chief misogynist Aischylos to advertise the Athenian law system and is significantly different than any other version of the Orestes myth. So it shouldn’t really count to say that Athena is a misogynist.
I want to note: according to myths during the Trojan War Ares was on the side of Trojans and continued to support them after the war. Trojans led by Aeneas moved to Italy and continued to honor Ares, but called him Mars. Centuries later, their descendants with red cloaks and the name of Mars would subjugate Greece and the Oikumene
Yea why i loved ares/Mars so much. Rome never held back the sons of Mars. The whole evocoti had a huge Mars ritual that took hours to be initialed into the best of the best of the legionnaires
In other words, the Trojans got the last laugh
Didn't Ares fight with Hector?
@@johnathonclayton6964idk about Hector but he did fight Diomedes one time
@johnathonclayton6964 no. in the first place Aphrodite was for the Trojans, and in the second Athena was for the Achaeans. So Ares had two reasons to be for the Trojans.

Ares the most hateful god, yes.
Yet who does not feel hatred when injustice is delivered upon you and those you hold close?
Who does not fight with brutal cruelty when you know that all will be lost?
The common man fights for simple survival, simple ideals and the thirst for betterment.
When presented a foe who insures none of those hings will reach him and his own what is a man to do?
Nothing is left but to die or fight with your heart mind spirit and soul.
Ares the God of war, he who lays with Love and is both held back, and sent forward by it.
Ares, the kindest son of Zeus.
Dude...🔥✍
I think Ares is the real hero of Olympus
Also he's the reason the Olympians left the mortal world. Basically, causing Greek ragnarok.
I always took exception to that line. Ares is not the most hateful god. Not by a LONG shot. That would be Athena, easily. She has an entire catalogue of mortals she's wronged because of how hateful she was. Entirely by her own measure.
Ares wasn't hateful, he was wrathful. He had a rage in him to fight against injustices. To fight against that which wanted to rip away life. To ensure that, in his name, no mortal would lose the gift of Prometheus' hand without every possible chance to seize victory he could afford them.
"Sometimes Wrath is justified"
Don't forget:
When Medusa was raped by Poseidon, Athena blamed her and punished her
When one of Ares daughters was raped he found the rapist and gave him an agonizing and painful death
And that rapist just so happened to be posidon's son very ironic
Poseidon's son: Have mercy!
Ares: No mercy for you!
@@praetorian9823 The story is literally from Ovid's Metamorphoses. The story existed before the common era.
@@basilsflowercrown9310that’s for romans Minerva, not Greek goddess Athena. They’re different
@@viridia1526 sure but the syncretization of Greek and Roman myths means that we don’t truly know if this story didn’t exist in Greek myth. It would explain some things about Medusa in the Greek myth like how she is mortal when her sisters are not. It’s probably not one to one with the Greek version but based on how much the two mythologies adapted stories from one another it’s possible Medusa had similar stories.
ARES! DESTROY MY ENEMIES AND MY LIFE IS YOURS!

Ares teaches us that you only lose if you give up, and that you should *never* give up.
Ok guys, hear me out:
Athena and Poseidon tried to vent their grudges against Ares by trying to get revenge on his children, the Romans, during the Punic wars.
Poseidon released Carthage’s experienced fleet and 4 fleet-crippling STORMS against the Roman stubbornness and persistence in the first war.
Athena gave Hannibal the most brilliant military and strategic mind of the world and the Romans, again, had just stubbornness and persistence.
Rome won in both cases, and Ares had the last laugh.
That actually makes a lot of sense, especially with Ares/Mars being one of the gods that the Romans worshipped the most.
Ares:*Default dances disrespectfully at Poseidon and Athena*
Also, Attila was supposedly carrying the Sword of Mars in his war against the Romans.
@@johnathonclayton6964 ares fights injustice even against his own people, he HAS no favorite nor does he truly hate one side. He just is and will, HE IS WAR
The difference between Ares and Athena is that he will give you the strength to fight for the present, while Athena will give you the knowledge to fight for the future, that's why she is the God of the heroes while Ares is the God of the peoples
Athena is the uncaring disconnected general in his secured and secluded war room.
Ares is the common soldier the boy who dies for his country in a deep trench. Who fights with passion and grace but is never celebrated.
He is the painful truth, the facts. Athena is a beautiful lie.
Ares and Hades has to be the most misunderstood gods out of all greek mythology or even mythologies generally
Hades is the chilliest god and really don't like to be involved with the mortal realms or Olympus, he simply rule the Underworld with efficiency and treat the dead equally.
Ares ,while he is not as chill, is as good person as Hades. He hates those who assault women (cough, ZEUS, cough, cough) so much that he killed one of Poseidon's children for assualting his daughter.
Both have their flaws but they are way better people than the other gods
I feel like Ares and Athena would be on different sides in a coup or rebellion, Ares with the people and Athena with the rulers and nobles
I can’t imagined how triggered she was when the American revolution, the French revolution, the diffusion of Napoleonic ideals, the revolutions of 1848 and the unification of Italy and Germany all happened IN A ROW.

I always had imagined those two gods as living embodiments of two different sides of war. Athena represents the logical side of war and Ares represents the emotional side of war.

@@Coryabraham-tz3mx yeah

I especially like line like the "I fight against despair" as apparently Ares has taken on a god of mental health angle from modern pagans due to the idea of fighting one's demons as well as the fact that stuff like depression can leave you quick to anger, or that many veterans with PTSD apparently find comfort in returning to service.
Very well done
This is reflected in the divine children of Ares. Two of his sons, those he takes with him into war, are Phobos and Deimos, Fear and Terror. But Ares has other children; Eros and Harmonia, Sexual Love/Lust and Peace respectively. If brutal Ares, blood-hungry Ares, horrifying Ares, can bring forth things of such beauty, with the aid of Love's Embodiment, imagine what we could do?

It doesn't matter how small you are. If you can stand, Ares has your back.
So Ares is technically the nicest son of Zeus.
depends on the context, Ares is not "nice" but he is fair and protective, he don't cherry pick, and he rewards brave people. he is loyal, brave, and dont like to look from afar, Athena is the goddess of generals, she almost never joins battle, but stay on the back giving commands, Ares is the god of soldiers and warrior, he is the one holding the line by your side.
one tale that i love about Ares, is how Ares was the first person ever by judged by a court of law, the whole justice system and judgment was created because of him because he murder one of Poseidon's sons after that son raped Ares's daughter, Ares revenged his daughter and accept judgment from the other gods for his actions, but he was considered innocent, since was just a father taking action to revenge his daughter,

When I’m angry and hurt at the world and the injustice of it all i struggle to be smart and wise and collected about it. I love Ares bc to me he’s such a relatable god in comparison to all the others, the messy, passionate fighter with flaws that don’t condemn. I’ve been so angry for so long and if there’s any god out there for me, I hope it’s Ares, bc he wouldn’t deny me my fury or make me feel guilty or ashamed of it.
I love this because the myth where the Greek gods end is so beautiful. It’s essentially ares. He goes to war against Olympus and wins, forcing Zeus to quit allowing them all to no longer meddle in mortal affairs but to simply watch, the war was bloody but no gods died. What it did do was show that ares was without a doubt the god prophesied to become overthrow Zeus, the myth ends via that the gods close the gates of Olympus, which is a very anti-climatic thing, yet poetic that the god of war, is more human then all the others. Seeing that the humans should be able to live the way they want without a god screwing things up
I have a confession. I'm currently working on a story centering around Ares and Medusa. Just as any other greek myth fan I believed Medusa deserved better. I mean she went through hell, being betrayed by the one god who she devoted her existence to, just to be transformed into a monster. I know that someone might say "She did it so that no man could ever hurt her again" BUT in the end it also isolates Medusa from everyone she loved. Like Athena had no empathy (not to mention she was later killed by Perseus). I wanted to give Medusa someone who could understand her pain and wrath and then BOOM! Who else would be better than the god hated by his own family/kind? Who sees the dark side of humanity but ultimately understands it. Story is set in kind of modern setting (not like Lore olympus, I hate it) and it's about Ares teaming up with Medusa to solve a crime case and ultimately just getting to know eachother. So kind of a mystery/ detective romance. I really hope this idea will stick with long enough for me to finaly draw it as a comic
well if you do make it i would love to read it

Ares deserves as much respect as any god. if i ever work with him i will be honored to learn from him
While even the Greeks outside of Sparta didn't like him very much, it's hard to fault him for his simplicity.
Athena is War through a Desk job, a politicians lies. Ares is a Soldiers War on the front, a bloody truth
Daily reminder that most of the Greek myths we still have are specifically the Athenian versions. So the hyping up of Athena and demonizing of Ares was just ancient political cartoons to shit on Sparta.
As a companion to that, negative stories about Athena could well be from Sparta or other Grecian city-states, and considering that both Sparta and Athens were places that did a lot of horrible things as a matter of historical record, I can't get too sad about a proxy god getting a bad rap, especially when the lasting philosophical and intellectual legacy of Sparta is in Fascistic military worship, Sparta itself may have been somewhat more nuanced, that is nooooot what their successors would take from them.
@@leviadragon99 most of the negative stories about Athena that we have are from Ovid, a Roman poet with a chip on his shoulder and issues with authority. We don't have any Spartan versions of myths.
Athena is better in every single way.......
Now i need some sort of show or movie of Ares being a good but misunderstood guy and not a villain
Hestia is the nicest deity on Olympus: wholesomeness and home, ideals to aspire to.
Fun fact: the patron deity of the city of Sparta was a local variant of Athena, not Ares.
Also its most important temple belonged to a local variant of Artemis.

Huh. Never thought about Ares this way...I figured he wasn't always depicted as a mass murdering, blood drunk, hate-filled, semi-feral dog only to be unchained at the sound of battle but I could never find any "good" stories about him when I tried. Nice to know I've found at least one!
I've never liked Athena, all her stories paint her as the perfect heir to Zeus in all the wrong ways. Ares at least was willing to actually physically fight in wars, unlike his coward of a sister.
Beautiful rendition, you did great! 💗💗
Thank you nyx 💗
This is awesome!!! It remainds me of a phrase that said: "What heaven denied me my wish, hell granted my wish"
It looks and sounds cool
He is also the protector of women.
Ares is pretty similar to Hades in some ways, both have unsavory but important jobs, both are kinda shun by the rest of the gods, and both have a lot of honor, they are the two greek gods that you know will never backstab you or cheat their way out of a deal. They'll be straight up with you and bring justice to the wicked
This got me thinking... if Athena is the godess of strategy in war and Ares is just "Let's stab those guys" then...
Wouldn't Athena be the one to say things like "Let's throw corpses with leprocy into their water supply to beat them"?
this made me think about how if the greek pantheon was still widely worshiped up to modern day, all other things being the same, Ares would have likely at least dethroned or killed zues in the world wars due to them sealing the fate of all monarchies around the world to be closer to living relics of a bygone era, although it could be said that zues would reincarnate as say a god of buisness and commerce or something but thats besides the point.

Remember we get most of our stories from the Athenians, Ares is the victim of a smear job. All the priests did it but Ares might was proven through conquest, since the world is not all greek now it's safe to say his method was not the most effective. The tribute of conquest was too high bar to continue his veneration. Remember his virtues, take heed his missteps, but always blaze your own path.

I feel like while yes this presents a good argument for Ares, it’s obviously one-sided and in the end one of his cultists is the one saying this (where they even admit the bloodlust can be maddening).
