Teruko’s twist in personality sold me on the concept the story’s been about so far: because this isn’t a game, she doesn’t have to be relateable, she’s just one of the characters, so she can have as much personality as everyone else, and it works FANTASTICALLY
If she was the Mastermind, then it might be due to her desperation to end her own life but couldn't due to her luck. Because of this, she placed herself in a dangerous situation and made it so the chances of her surviving would've been incredibly low. But hey, that's just a theory. A Fanganronpa theory.
To get further into my theory... I think Eden is the mastermind and she's using time travel to recreate the killing game until she can kill Teruko. Her Ultimate Talent let her construct a time machine. Perhaps Teruko's bad luck was so bad it ruined the outside world, like meteors crashing on her location and plagues following her around. I think it's time travel because of the title "Despair Time" and because of Xander. He was ordered to kill Teruko by SOMEONE, and it's someone he would trust enough to do something entirely out of character. He doesn't take orders from authority, mind you. He was confused by the order because he doesn't understand why HIS FUTURE SELF had ordered him to kill Teruko. Eden is also giving Tsumugi vibes. In V3, Tsumugi manipulated subtly through social interactions. For example, she helped set up the magic show used in the second case and sided with Angie's cult to sow distrust in the third chapter. Eden has been involved enough to influence characters without being a focal point, and that's suspicious to me.
Wouldn't you be pissed if everyone blamed you for killing the person who you thought was your friend, only to be stabbed by said friend? And the revelation that it was another friend who killed and tried to pin the kill on you? I know I'd probably be pissed, so Teruko is a justified queen for her reaction.
