- As the skies begin to clear over California, the looming threat at Lake Oroville remains far from over. Despite the absence of rain, the vast amounts of snow still blanketing the Sierra Nevada present a precarious situation. Current snowpack levels are significantly higher than last year, raising concerns about potential rapid melting. This could put immense pressure on the already brimming Lake Oroville and its emergency spillway. While the Department of Water Resources (DWR) has a track record of managing these scenarios, their past missteps leave room for apprehension. With the snow beginning its inevitable thaw, the situation could escalate quickly, posing serious challenges to the infrastructure designed to protect and manage the area's water resources.

The main thing I hope this is a safe situation for everyone. Just a note of interest I`am a small farmer that gets my water from this lake, our current allocation is 40%. I have to pay for all contracted water whether any is delivered. Delivery fees and taxes make farming something I like to get out of. Overheard the foreman of the ranch next door say they were going to walk away if things don`t change. Small farmers are the endangered species.

California has escaped the drought and ought to be in good shape until 2030. The lastest news regarding Glenn Canyon dam indicates that dead pool at 3490 elevation is very possible. As such the Colorado river remains in danger.
