The ending is rapidfire and the links are unforgiving, but it's the taste you NEED - I absolutely love the ties between the stone ships/coffins and the divine towers 😁 It is something I am tremendously excited to explore more with y'all, alas.. one video a week! See you next vid! ❤
I've also thought of eyes as "receivers of light", and so in the context of elden ring the form that eyes take may have something to say about who or what they are receiving light from. it's interesting applying this framework to someone like Messmer, as his eye are very clearly tied to Marika, gold, and light. when he shatters his eye, the darkness in him and the abyssal serpent takes more influence.
Dragons have always been my favorite part of Souls. They're connected to everything but are heavily under examined in lore vids. Your vids on the sun realm and how all is related has greatly satisfied me.
I can totally see the significance of 3 and 4 in Elden Ring In DaS, multiples of 5 were important, (especially 5, 10, 20 [V, X, XX]). Also, 30 being the first sphenic number [2x3x5] (The Shrine Handmaiden's Titanite Slab costs 30k). Sphene is another name for the mineral Titanite and is the Greek word for Wedge (see also: "archstone"). Lothric's platinum sword has a sphenic atomic number; 78 [2x3x13]. Also, 6 (realms of Samsara) referenced by the term, 'hexes'.
5:10 I'm only this far into the video, but I want to say, the first thing that comes to mind when I look at the quatrefoil on Metyr's eye, what I see is the image of cell division. Not sure if you'd call it Mitosis or Binary Fission, but regardless, it reminds me of the common depiction of a cell multiplying in a petri dish.
Yeah I agree, to me it mostly resembles the just fertilised egg cell that has gone through two divisions to create 4 cells. Don’t know what that’s supposed to mean though.
This is very interesting, as I was recently looking up the origins of the name Leda, and this draws an interesting connection. In Greek Mythology, Leda was a princess who Zeus was captivated by. So, he turned himself into a swan, seduced her, and then impregnated her. On the very same night, she slept with her husband. The story goes that she later gave birth to two eggs, each containing 2 children - 4 children in total. The parentage of these children is often disputed due to her sleeping with both Zeus and her husband on the same night. With all of the emphasis on childbirth in FromSoft games, I'm sure it's no coincidence that these little details are sprinkled in. I believe there is something that we are all missing regarding Marika and her children, in particular some of the origins of her children. I'm starting to believe that Marika seduced the Fell God, got pregnant, betrayed/murdered the Fell God, and that she is pregnant during that trailer at the Gate of Divinity. This is a half baked thought, and I'm obviously missing the cohesive details that would make it work, but its just something that has been ruminating in my mind a bit, recently.
I think the sword weilding statue is of Marika, possibly made by the same sculptor that made the statue of her that changes into radagon. The statue’s face and body are very masculine, yet it’s draped in a cloth in the same way statues of the mother Mary is depicted. Marika’s veil hiding her true identity. (The ones in Altus not the ones in the roundtable hold)
Can’t wait for the next ones mate! Hope to get some Godwyn incorporated into it, with his living in dead dropping sunrealm shields and the prevalence of banished knights, but I guess I’ll see! (Oh and can someone please explain why a banished knight with and unaltered helmet seems to have killed a few with altered helmets, that’d be great)
I’m pretty sure the banished knights took up the powers of dragon communion and since it was considered dangerous and corrupting they were banished from leyndell
Check the elevator between Leyndell and the Mountaintops, specifically the statues. I have been of the mind that the bowl holding dudes represent giants and share some similarities to Elden John. Why giants? Because the grand lifts appear to have been built in a time of peace, the golden order sort of ended peace. Dectus has two scholar statues and two knights. Rold has those two knights and two bearded dudes with bowls. Idk
scumbro discovered architecture 😳 for real that is cool to see it brought up - I’ve been looking into the same thing, the progression between the Trinity, the Four Gospels that the quatrefoil stands for in Christian symbolism and further sacred geometry usage. and btw there’s a symbol simpler than trefoil that has an important meaning in the game as well 😈
@allthe1 Its worth mentioning that there are actually two distinct spirals in Elden Ring, perhaps three. A single Spiral found mostly in Hornsent arcitecture, the double spiral seen in more cosmic examples like Spiral Shard, and the closed spirals seen in items like the Coiled Sword and Fingerslayer blade, their progression having symbolically reached their point; their endgoal.
this, i have an issue with. so many of those statues dont match the rock the pedestal is made of. that rock matches the nox buildings with the same clove pattern, but it doesnt match the rock of so many of the statues sitting on top of it. i think the statues were just set on top the same way they just hang flags around old buildings, because the time that the statue was placed on the pedestal was so long after the pedestal was originally placed and the civilization that placed it was so alien to them that the symbology on it is nearly meaningless and therefore doesnt matter to them and is the same as using an existing old castle. the pedestal rock does match the statue for the crucible bud statues in front of the grand lift of dectus and in front of the capital gate, and i think its because those statues were placed where there was no previous statue or pedestal, and why put a statue there? to tell everyone who opposed you that you're now in charge of the major roadways and cities, which is what happened when the erdtree won the war of the crucible era and came into control of the lands between and symbolized by the one superior bud among the competing shoots depicted by that very statue
Have some crackpipe theories of mine: Scarlet Rot & Formless Mother were once a single god, with the Scarlet Rot being its body and Formless Mother its spirit. Something separated them, akin to Ranni’s separation, and I believe this is hinted at in the Rauh ruins, where Aeonian Blooms and Blood Roses become one. Ranni’s quest along the River does not go through the Lake of Rot for no reason - she learned how to split herself in the first place from the Mother-Rot split, and used Nox tools to accomplish this task. I believe this split had something to do with the fall of the Ancient Dynasty, the Founding Rain of Stars, and the Magma Flood theory proposed by Tarnished Archaeologist. I think either the Base Serpent or God-Devouring Serpent had something to do with the loss of the Sun and the fall of the Sun Realm/Eclipse. They/it devoured the sun and stole its fire, leaving the Fell God bodiless, hence why he manifested into the bodies of the Giants, and rewarded flesh sacrifice. This may have something to do with the Formless Mother as well(?) considering her affinity for Blood Flame. Perhaps they worked together as some kind of hybrid caduceus-apophis, Kaathe and Fraampt. One sealed within Gelmir, the other within Mesmer. I think many of what we now call outer gods are broken aspects of failed Emperyons and Demigods of prior ages, left to accumulate power with no true direction or will, cut from the Greater Will long ago.
I love these. I would like to add one counter argument though; the relation between the Demigods and Outer Gods are backwards. The outer gods are entites predating the Demigods, and through them the Outer gods are trying to gain traction enough to cause significant change in the lands between. If you're familiar with TES lore, I think that Outer Gods are like Daedra(agents of change within the system of order), whereas the Greater Will/One Great before it were more like the Aedra(agents of the order itself, therefore inflexible but creating the foundation for the Other to enact change.) The Outer Gods are trying to make a lord that they can use to alter the rules of the universe within a certain spectrum, and that's how they can take control. Nightreign may actually be this concept in action if the Lord of Night happens to be what happens when the Nox are successful in usurping the Elden Ring from the Golden Order.
To me, the Formless mother is the alternate personnality of Metyr cause she is the one who make grown the first Erdtree (the one of the dragons) that conducts to the curse of flesh, mortality and intelligence. The Scarlet Rot is the result of the shattering of the energy of the Primordial Crucible when some giants choose to put them in stone coffins instead of burrying themselves. Most of the putrescence who emanes from them transform into Numens, who built the ancient (antique) cities, then the Scarlet Rot, and the Putrescent Knight (during the age of Nox) emerge from it.
It's very telling that a lot of these symbols appear in Farum Azula. Maybe even the Ancient Dragons aren't the originators of some of these symbols though, if Metyr's eye inspired one of them.
I personally love this kind of pontification, it's very fun, though I take it all with the grain of salt wherein I wouldn't be surprised if the 'actual case' was simply Miyazaki going, like the creator of Evangelion: "We wanted some Christian imagery in our thing, it's cool" Years later, people reading way into it:
I call the eyes "the goal of death" cause their colors symbolise the way of life and death we're in. For me in the beginning there was only absolute void, the "Abyssal Serpent". Then a white light appeared in the universe, the "One Grant", and the Serpent adorned itself with eyes to devour it. The "One Great" then divided itself into a spirit, the "Greater Will", golden, and a body, the "Frenzied Flame". And since then, the GW orders its body in order to escape the Abyssal Serpent, gradually cutting it into planets, while it is slowly devoured, cutting it into stars. So for me, the Quatrefoil symbol is a reference to the primordial shattering between life and death, heat and cold, light and dark, and finallly matter and spirit.
Still kinda annoyed that I did a whole playthrough of the game in order to kill Metyr before the Two Fingers in RTH go catatonic in order to see if the Two Fingers reacted in any way to Metyr's death, only for them not to. Not totally useless as it does more or less confirm that Metyr and the Two Fingers are not in communication and likely have not been for a very long time. But still. I really wanted there to be something. Even just some weird twitching. It does seem as though one of the earliest events in the entire history (as opposed to pre-history) of the Lands Between is the arrival of Metyr. I'd be interested to see what your thoughts are about how well known her existence was. Was she well known and largely erased/abstracted from history? Or was she always behind the scenes and using the Two Fingers as proxies? Some characters have an explicit dislike of the Two Fingers, but never do they mention anything that even hinted at Metyr, that I recall. Maybe they knew of her but believed her killed by the wound she received from the Fingerslayer Blade? Assuming her dead rather than fled? It seems like the likeliest explanation for the existence of the Three Fingers is Metyr getting stabbed and giving birth to a malformed Two Finger. But would that mean she was in Leyendell at some point? Maybe Leyendell when the Nameless Eternal City was still up on the surface? I dunno, I think the order of events will forever be elusive and that might be the most annoying thing of all here.
Dude, firelink conspiracy just dropped a video today, and now you! Freakin Christmas. Superlative lore analysis. I need a warm tea before starting this 😂 Thank you! Quatrefoil! Had some lore stuff I wanted to say about this video, but seriously thinking twice about it bc last time I commented a little over a month ago, some dude in this comment section screamed at me for disagreeing with one minor point in a video, then found my Facebook profile and stalked me and my gf and literally got my RUclips channel deleted somehow. TLDR: Interesting fandom here, bro 🤙
I've pondered that the Greater Will is actually Elden Ring's sun/star, but in this world stars can potentially be beings/gods and sometimes take form. Remember, we used to worship the sun ourselves, so to me it's quite possible this story is just word play. It gave life and requires worship. The celestial bodies are gods in this world, or at least very important/worship able objects out there in the cosmos. The formless mother is an example of a red star that must not have the ability to more into a "body" so it is "formless". Malformed Stars are exactly that, but they have the ability to attempt morphing into something else. Stare at the sun too long and it'll blind you and burn your eyes out, but you want to continue seeing it causing Madness.
The Fell God was the sun god that was replaced by the Erdtree, notice how the tree shines brighter and occludes the sun in game. The GW is more likely the cosmic big bang that started all life.
The way Metyr's eyes look, it makes me think of how the soul king from bleach has 4 irises, and the more irises someone has in bleach, the closer they are to godhood
Marika placed her scarseal into Messmer's eye, Radagon put his scarseal into metyr. His Scarseal is totally a quatrefoil. Mother and Father. Son and Daughter.

Some of the important symbols you showed are available in the tattoos in character creation. I don't think I've seen anybody look into those.
Ooo I didn't even think of that, that is a great idea.
I've also thought of eyes as "receivers of light", and so in the context of elden ring the form that eyes take may have something to say about who or what they are receiving light from.

In the song for Scadu Altus, there are sections which have 4 sounds, followed by 3 sounds.
Finally, I feel like this is the connecting tie we need for the full picture of the game's history

Or his seal came from metyr because Radagon has been part of Marika and The Gloam Eyed Queen the entire time.
