      @journeymancellist9247 How do you know that “he never had a profound idea in his life”?

    • @journeymancellist9247
      @journeymancellist9247 9 месяцев назад

      @@roberthill799 listen to his music. I’ve been listening for decades, and I love it, but 1) his music expresses nothing profound and 2) his adoration of Haydn never resulted in any change in his own music.
      Boccherini is charming, but try listening to it for two unbroken hours. You’ll stop listening even if you don’t stop hearing, because one Boccherini is much like another Boccherini, and gets old rather quickly. It has none of Haydn’s originality, which is immediately obvious when listening to Haydn for that same two hours. I have, on car trips, with the Paris and London symphonies of Haydn, and some Boccherini quintets and flute trios. Haydn makes you listen because you don’t know what’s happening next. Boccherini does not.
      Thanks for the note. If you would like to suggest some rebuttal music, I’ll happily listen.

    • @dorette-hi4j
      @dorette-hi4j 9 месяцев назад +5

      @@journeymancellist9247 I agree that Haydn is constantly surprising, he makes you listen. Boccherini works differently. His originality takes another form. All I can say is that if I hear something on the radio and I think "That's Boccherini", I am usually right. It is more than just charm, it is an individual voice. I think you have to listen more attentively to Boccherini to hear what he is doing and saying, and how his works are differentiated. Don't take him for granted.
      You will know some of the quotes from younger contemporaries. The violinist Jean Baptiste Cartier (1765-1841): "If the Lord God wanted to communicate with mankind, he would use a symphony by Haydn. But if he wanted to listen to music for himself, no doubt he would choose the music of the great Boccherini."

    • @journeymancellist9247
      @journeymancellist9247 9 месяцев назад

      @@dorette-hi4j thanks for your note! Pierre Rhode also loved Boccherini, but Mendelssohn wrote condescendingly of his music while playing(or hearing) a quintet one evening.
      I agree completely that Boccherini is very identifiable, as is Haydn, but for different reasons. I love Boccherini, else I wouldn’t be listening to his stuff on RUclips, haha. But his creativity is limited and his music becomes tiring after a time, because it is lacking in harmonic variety and lacks any ability to evoke powerful emotions.

    • @dorette-hi4j
      @dorette-hi4j 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@journeymancellist9247 OK. It seems that he appealed to French taste, and not to German. I have found a wonderful passage in Spohr's Autobiography for you (on the violinist Baillot, whom Spohr heard on a visit to Paris in 1820/21):
      "You know that he frequently plays and takes great pleasure in Boccherini’s quintets. I was desirous of hearing him in these quintets, with about a dozen of which I am acquainted, in order to see whether from the manner in which he executes them he could succeed in making one forget the poverty of the compositions. But well as
      they were given by him, the frequent childishness of the melodies, and the poverty of the harmonies (almost always three-voiced only) were no less unpleasing to me, than in all those I had heard before. One can hardly understand how a cultivated artist like Baillot, to whom our treasures in compositions of this kind are known, can bring himself to play those quintets still, whose worth consists only in the regard had to the period and circumstances under which they were written. But that they are here listened to with as much pleasure as a quintet of Mozart, is another proof that Parisians cannot distinguish the good from the bad, and are at least half a century behind in art."
      On the other hand, Anner Byslma, that great cellist, wholeheartedly championed Boccherini. I'll go with his judgement, I think.
      And of course nowadays Spohr is even more forgotten than Boccherini!

    Like Eric Hodge I have listened to the "obvious" classics for fifty years and only blundered across Boccherini by accident. He's brilliant. Actually, as you browse among his works, you find a cleverness with texture (I'm not musically educated, so I'm not sure what terms to use) that's in some ways more satisfying than even Mozart or Haydn. He belongs with greats of Baroque music.

    Estos quintetos fueron compuestos para el Infante D.Luis de Borbón, hermano de Carlos IV, en su pequeña corte en Arenas de San Pedro. En este ambiente, retirado de la corte de Madrid, pudo Bocherinni satisfacer plenamente tanto los gustos de su mecenas (tanto D. Luis como su hermano el rey parecen haber sido diestros ejecutantes de cello y viola) como su propia creatividad como compositor.

    What exactly is the instrument combination? One cello, one viola and three violins, perhaps?

    저의 심견 말 씀도 굳이 필요성 느끼고도 싶지 않으나, 써야 될것 같은 마음에, "저는 제가 만나길 바라는 사람과, 제가 살고 싶은 곳에서 저의 삶 계획만을(남은 삶) 위해서 (지금 빨리 못 살아져서 분노가 차거든요) !!, 저의 삶 계획을 세상 어떤 인간들로 인해 간섭 판단 받고 있는줄로 아는데, 저 심령에서 못 봐주겠거든요!
    저에 대해서 왜 함부로 처다보시고 이러쿵 저러쿵 하시죠?!, 제가 알고 있는데 저가 주님께 그 사람들 가만 놔두지 않으셨으면 좋겠다고 계속 마음에서 바라고 있는 줄 모르시죠?
    저 심령을 얼마나 피곤하게 하시고 있는줄 모르시죠..
    어쩜 저가 이곳에 발붙이고 살기도 버겁게 만드시는지 참! 대단하고 감히 따라흉내 내기도 어려운 인격들의 소유자임들이인게 분들로 알아질 뿐이네요.

    The Music is wonderful! I must register a strong complaint though about the almost 2 hour long advertisement. If I were more mobile, I would just skip the adds and endure the obnoxious few seconds of egregious blather about a product I have no interest in, but I had just transferred out of my wheel chair into my arm chair and had gotten comfortable. I wish I could just endure this obnoxious sales pitch, the foreign accent, and the product that I have no interest in. When it became obvious that the wretched thing and the person presenting the ad would be blathering on and on, it became obvious I would have to quit my book, arm chair, transfer to the wheel chair, then make my way to my desk in order to just shut off the advertisement. If I could get you all on a phone line to help me install You Tube's Premium Ad BlockerI would have long since have installed it myself. It is my guess that I have almost as large collection of the music I enjoy on disc, cassette, and vinyl as you all . It seems I must record these to tape, which means that I will have to drag out my old Ampex reel to reel recorder/player, record what I want on large reels of tape, and enjoy the music this way. I cannot endure more than about 90 seconds of some jerk hawking this product, that's why I gave up first Radio, TV and now it seems You Tube as well. If only you all had a phone/trouble line available so that some one could coach me on how to install Music Premium this would not be necessary, but alas, I am just barely computer literate, and have been unable to understand how to install the darned ad blocker. I have enjoyed the music and movies available. but I cannot at the age of 80 endure the egregious antics presented to me by your advertisers.. Can no one get on the phone and help me to install Music Premium? I hope some one will provide me a help line number, but I have resigned myself to having to give up You Tube after all. Please get me a help number, my mind just doesn't work well with technical language, surely there is something that can be done so that I can get the required Ad Blocker installed. Oh Yes, Merry Christmas
