So great to see him at this age--at 21 he wins the Longwood Garden competition (and many others between this and then).

Your parents must be so proud of you and your accomplishments. And they should be so proud of themselves for providing what you have needed to become the organist you have become.

A charming talented young guy 'It's a nice piece" - typical German understatement - "It's a nice performance"

Sure has grown, and what a performer he has turned into. I am so happy to see enthusiastic students doing what they need to do. I hardly touched a keyboard until my first year of college, and by them it was almost too late. Keep up the wonderful work and incredible playing!

Sebastian your a great organist, I also started to play pipe organs at a extremely young age and was taught by my father, it's a awesome talent to be able to play the king of instruments

So happy that we have this video to document your great promise at age 15. Just a few years later you have already accomplished so much, with what comes across as a natural joyfulness. So few people in the world are blessed with such talent and the ability to develop it to its fullest.
Love the gloves that are open at the fingertips. Wish I had had some like that as I was freezing while playing the organ in a few European churches.

This has been a favourite RUclips organ performance since the original BBC programme and as another listener has said, an incredible interpretation at the age of 15. It is not at all surprising that he is now so successful and one of the foremost young organists in Europe and very exciting to watch.

The footage of you playing this made a big impression on my when I watched the JEG documentary, now more than 10 years ago! I looked it up on DVD when I decided to learn this piece myself 18 months ago (better late than never...) and was surprised how short the clip was: only a few seconds. Was a longer version released separately? Anyway I never dreamed that the internet would allow me to watch the whole of your performance one day. I doubt I'll ever get to play it at Altenburg though! Bravo!

You watch this young fellow play - He is NOT really reading the music. He has it memorized at age 13, he refers to the music. Amazing by. He has a stellar career ahead of him.

A wonderful performance from such a young organist who has gone on to greater things. Shame that the overall volume level is so low. Is this typical BBC sound meddling, I wonder?

It’s unbelievable that someone can do this on his 15th. I’m 34 and still struggling with sheet music while trying my whole life. You would almost start believing in reincarnation or gifts from above. Not that i’m religious.

You are right, the 90 minutes documentary includes only very short slices of all the pieces by all the artits. But of course at the BBC website at the complimentary bonus content section in March 2013 there was the possibility to watch all the complete classic pieces. This fulltime BBC video ist from that bonus website with kind permission of the producer.

What day was Bach born? the date on wikipedia is March 31, 1685, but this documentary says it was March 23, 1685.

    • @lindacowles756

He was actually born on 21 March, 1685 but they used a different calendar at one time. His parents had him christened on 23 March, 1685. Hope this helps.

Is this another Trost-Organ? I thought the Trost-Organ was in Waltershausen?

Trost built several instruments. Only a few are well preserved. Please look here: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tobias_Heinrich_Gottfried_Trost

if there would be a heating system, the organ would have been gone since long time. All still existing historic organs are in cold churches...and think about what would it cost to heat up such a big building, nobody could pay that
