    SYNOPSIS
    A 30 day, 620 km canoe journey through the expansive wilderness of Côte-Nord, Quebec. The route is designed to traverse the headwaters of the Romaine River, a river seeing significant change as part of Quebec’s major energy project Plan Nord, followed by the descent of the little-known Aguanish River. The goal of the route is to gain a first-hand perspective of the land of wild rivers as we paddle and portage our way across the Labrador-Quebec plateau to the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
    This trip was supported by the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and Mountain Equipment Co-op.

    The long string at the 30 minute mark looks like a horsehair worm. They are a parasite but not to humans. Great adventure and great videos! Makes me anxious for spring to get here so I can get out on the water again and maybe have a bit smaller adventure.

    Awesome video -- thanks for the upload! @30:09 I believe that is a horsehair worm! A parasitic worm, though it doesn't feed on humans but small insects

    That is a horsehair worm, i believe. I saw one last summer here in Maine that was almost clear. I thought it was a piece of mono, tried to pick it up, and it started to swim away. Surprised the heck out of me.

    Great story-telling and creating an atmosphere of real adventure through the music, commentary and campsite patter. Part of the narrative is the team work aspect... I'm liking the empathy displayed within the team such as when Noah just listens and doesn't talk... so much more genuine than quick-fire repartee that doesn't really belong in this context. The grand scale of nature should be teaching us to STFU now and then. Bravo!

    Seen bear damage at a wilderness cabin near Gander. The bear grabbed the door frame near the top and took out the whole door box, nails and all. went inside and tore up everything, cupboards off the walls, and ripped the mattresses to shreds. Was up in Saglek Labrador in the 90's with the military and a Polar bear tore the door off a Coast Guard helicopter over night, and chewed up the handle on the collective. Test every scent!

    We had a hunting/fishing camp in Quebec's boreal forest, north of Montreal. Arriving by float plane, the first trip of the year was always a gamble - would there be a tree that fell on the roof; did a bear get in; did some low-life leave the door open? Which reminds me, on crown land , camps had to remain unlocked. Good on you for reporting it.

    I don't know what that weird bug thing was but it reminded me of those parasites that take over insects and force them to water where the parasite then leaves their body. You can see RUclips videos of it.

    As a child growing up in Northern Ontario I remember seeing those long strings in the water. I was told they are called Horse Hairs and the story I was told was they are like a leach or blood sucker, can wrap around your leg and dig in. I hope it was just a story but it just might be true.

    • @KY-ge7uy
      @KY-ge7uy 2 года назад

      You're close. They're called Horsehair worm. They're harmless though, except to the large insects (grasshoppers, crickets) they grow in, as a parasite. When the insect gets thirsty and goes to a river or stream to drink, the worm leaves their body.
