Hello again sir, I totally agree with your comments 👍 because I'm an old fart too.
Keep it simple i say. Ride safe and stay safe 🙏.

Hello from Australia. From one V-Strom owner to another, and also an old fart club member, I agree. The user interactive technologies will always advance, and as the main customer demographic shifts, manufacturers will cater to that group rather than any other. If riders of a certain type or demographic generally want less tech or the bare minimum tech, but they are no longer the main customer type, the market will produce fewer choices for them, either as complete bikes or as bikes with the simpler systems they like.
Whatever user tech is on the bike, it needs to be straight-forward and stay the way I set it until I change it. If every time the ignition is turned off all changes are lost, that's no good. If you've ever been on a bike where, if you stall it and re-start it, your TC or ABS settings are lost and have to go into menus to put it back to what you want, that's very frustrating.
While we can all talk at length about how great the motorcycles we own are (that's only natural), what I like about the V-Strom in the tech department is (you know this): huge analogue tachometer, simple LCD that's easy to read showing speed, gear, fuel, temp, etc, the LH switch gear for the screen is a select button in the middle to go between No TC, TC1 and TC2, while the up arrow scrolls through the trip meters and the down arrow scrolls through the fuel use / range / voltage and so on. If I change to No TC and turn the bike off, when I come back it's still on No TC, which is great. No bluetooth connectivity, no gps, no software updates via mobile phone. Just the way I like it.
The wife has a V-Strom as well. We both really enjoy these bikes. We use Cardo Pactalk Bold for our comms. While we both have the app on our phones, I do not use bluetooth between the Cardo unit and the phone as I ride. It's intercom only for me between the two Cardo's if we're both riding together. Otherwise, only the sound of the bike.

Great explanation thanks. As you know manufacturers like to one up each in engine power/torque, now its tech.

Abs and traction control are all that is needed on most bikes.

This might explain the allure of the Royal Enfield Himalayan etc. I can see marketing campaigns diverging into 2 camps (if they haven't already)....high and low (or no) tech.
