They would need to illegally modify the suspension to get even close. (Which isn't a problem given that the car has been retired.) I assume to accommodate that there would need to be changes to the packaging as well. The wings and floor could also be modified as well. Would be interesting to see what the finished article looks like.
not sure if the W11 would beat this. first issue is finding the right driver. Theres no f1 driver who is a nos expert, not even remotely. there isnt a ring expert who would do an f1 car justice either. timo is both an lmp1 and a nos expert, so hes a perfect fit for the 919 at nos lap. second issue is the question wether an f1 car could be setup in a way that it can actually use its performance around the ring. weve seen how sensitive f1 cars are these days, even wind can be a major issue. especially with the 1st issue, i dont see any f1 car breaking any nos records or even making an attempt at all. and you cant forget, this 919 evo accelerates faster than an f1 car and has higher top speeds than the current f1 cars. its a much smaller car making it a bit more agile while the f1 car is a bit lighter and has more overall downforce, not by much but it does. the 919 broke the spa lap record a few years ago and yes, f1 got it back the same year but the margins werent all that big between the two.
@@Xzibitfreek Well not a specialist, but Albon did drive in the ring in DTM right? And same too, I don't think it can beat the LMP1 because the F1 is too low to the ground and would have serious floor damage at the end of the lap.
@@Xzibitfreek Why wouldn't there be a driver that could do it justice.. You can pretty much pick up any platinum driver that has experience with F2 and or LMP2 chassis and above, They're all the same thing fundamentally. Pick anyone of those, ideally one with good Nordschleife experience from NLS or whatever and get to it. It doesn't have to be perfect, Timo said that he could have gone faster with an extra lap or two as well, the basic idea is just to get a feel of the capabilities of the car. I am sure you could get an F1 car around the Nordschleife, just with modifications that are more expensive than feasible, F1 cars are so expensive as it is. Like the W11 cost 3 times the 919 to develop.
I tell you something the 2014-2018 era of LMP1 racing - if you were there, if you watched it - you know this was up there with Group B rallying in the early 80s, the 80s turbo F1 era, - those absolute classic eras of peak-awesomeness. The sadness for me is that those years should have been the most high profile motorsport in the world - it was *head and shoulders* above F1 for racing competitiveness, for technological interest, etc, and yet, only a handful of people know quite how awesome it was.
I dunno if y‘all know this, but in a talk with JP Performance the driver said that he drove it with one foot, since he learnt driving in racing cars with a shifting knob and clutch… That makes it so much more crazy!!!

It absolutely looks like sped up video….takes my breath away every time I watch it. His “zone” is on another planet from the rest of us mortals.
I wish Mercedes could do something similar with the W11. DAS + party mode and throw this car around the big ring to obliterate the lap record.
Its sadly too low for the green hell.... It would be awesome tho
3:25 White shirt guy on the left, hello🙋🏻♂️
The car was mindblowing by the way, nearly outrunning a chopper which was following
Absolutely phenomenal bit of driving! Does anyone knopw the song in the background at the 7:30 mark? Sounds like RR4's "Pearl Blue Soul" but remixed??
Just mind boggling to handle this at that speed... just Wow...
Between LMP1 and the F1 V6 hybrid, we really had a new golden age of motorsport for a good decade or so.
Bonkers... Absolutely MAD!
That’s because there weren’t enough races.
Was just watching the 24hr Nurburg race earlier. This is like 2X speed!
Speed is one thing but the astonishing grip that car has with the downforce...... just wow
that was so damn amazing. that was so fast it looks like a jet fighter flying
Timo Bernhard drove this lap only with his right foot, no left foot braking. He said it in an interview with JP Performance. Just unreal
I dunno if y‘all know this, but in a talk with JP Performance the driver said that he drove it with one foot, since he learnt driving in racing cars with a shifting knob and clutch…
That makes it so much more crazy!!!
