OnePlus is one impressive company. Obviously it is water resistant after these test but I’m wondering if they don’t certify it as water resistant because it costs too much or something.
Exactly!! They know it is water resistant. Just don't need to add cost to the product but paying huge amount to a company that would just say, ok, your product is water resistant.
@@MatthewMoniz I think the cost of certification itself is not the problem. They don't give you warranty that is waterproof, bcs the warranty cases are the expensive part.
The issue with this water resistance test is that you've tested the phone for different amounts of time, but not at different depths. The depth is also very important since the higher the depth, the higher the water pressure around the phone and greater the chance that water will leak in. Hence your tests are basically valid to show that the OP 6t will be fine if you drop it in the toilet for 5 minutes, not if it goes with you into the pool or lake.
in other words, the device will survive an accidental incident of water contact, which is what the average user will be dealing with. a spill, rain, a drop in a puddle or the toilet. you can't take it with you to the shower, the tub, or the pool, but who is doing these things on average?
@@BronzeLincolns81 *Actually based on this test, I'm pretty sure a shower would be ok and less "harmful" than submerging the phone entirely in water, and it may possibly be ok if it's a tub that's about 2 feet of water. It's inconclusive for a swimming pool though, cause that's pretty deep.*
My god. Vast majority of real world situations his tests replicate fine (drop in sink, puddle, toilet, etc). The amount of depth where water pressure becomes an issue is extreme. If you drop your phone into the ocean, then you deserve to lose it, due to being a fucking idiot who can't be out on the water without their phone.
Phones also don't just drop vertically where the charger and speaker holes are conveniently protected due to air pockets since it's being dropped vertically. Sorry to say people this video is for the views and likes and not for the actual tests 😬
I understand being disappointed about lack of the jack.. but it's pretty easy to buy a few dongles and just have them always connected to your headphones.
You should do a test with good enough water depth. Not just a bucket since water pressure matters a lot. I am sure you already know this. But just a suggestion so that we actually know if its fine if the phone fell in a pool or something.
Funny story I used to have an iPhone 7 but I switched to OnePlus 6t. When I did have the iPhone 7 I was with my sister and friend we we're going into a lake then I forgot my phone was in my pocket guess what. The freaking phone is waterproof. I was in the lake 4 feet deep for almost 2 hours without getting out
Jerryrigeverything disassembled the OnePlus 6T and had a hard time breaking the glue seal around the OP6T. Inside are water-resistant features for the motherboard, speakers and even have green rubber seal around the SIM card tray. What does that tell you? IP rating without the warranty just like other Flagship smartphones offers.
This is the most realstic water test ever. Because who the fudge is going to bring their phone more than 1.5 meters under the water!? Do you even live under the water bro!? Mind you, the company did not even claim to have an IP rating and to think that it can function normally again without any defects after doing this test is truly an amazing job done by the OnePlus team. That's why we should all be blessed to have a flagship phone whose cost doesn't line up with others given the fact that it can perform as well as the other flagship phones out there. Salute to the OnePlus team. You did a great job for this year's competition. #OnePlus6T
That's pretty cool. I believe that it is purely to save money for OnePlus to not label the device with an IP rating. First, it costs money to get the device rated. Second, it costs time and money to test the devices. Third, if they IP rate it, people will invariably a) test that, and they may have to warranty the device if it fails, costing more money. So while the device has some gaskets and seals and will do well, it isn't officially rated as a cost saving measure. FYI, if you put it in 3 feet of water for 30 minutes you can do an IP67 test. If you dunk it in 4.5 feet of water for 30 minutes, it is rated to IP68. I'm not sure who is going swimming with their phones, but everyone seems to want that rating.
YES IT IS. Mine fell into one whole fucking water drum just few minutes ago. Nothing happened to it. Only the speaker had issue for 2-3 minutes. After that it got fine automatically. So Yes, it IS water proof. 🥴♥️
It rained and my 6t was on the front of my motorbike now the volume always puts it's self on minimum and pauses the video during videos.. happens every few minutes.
I read and saw the same water dunking and where OnePlus says they didn't IP certify it because they would have had to charge 30.00 more per phone and wanted to keep cost down for their customers
Hi Matthew. Does air bubbles can damage the 6t screen? Kindly share your opinion. Recently I have cracked one new OnePlus 6t official tempered glass during removing it from back glued support and applied a second one with some air bubbles due to some dust particles. These official tempered glasses are very much expensive and my Maclaren edition too so that I am asking you.
I just dropped my brand new 6T in the toilet... luckily it was before any business had to be done but I went straight to RUclips to look this up! Glad to know that my phone is essentially waterproof!

That’s exactly it. It costs too much money but if you accidentally drop it in water for a short period of time the phone should be fine
Even if it is the most waterproof phone they would not certificate it for the price
Even with certification other flagship don't cover damage by water or immersion so it's useless the certification. Its only to make price higher

Yeah, noticed... Sorry
it won't survive being dropped in 10 ft of water or sitting in a shower and it doesn't matter as the average user won't be in this scenario.

Drop it with the top down that would really test it! There's no air escape when you put it in with speaker at the bottom.
Getting the phone certified would mean extra administrative costs. OP probably skipped on that.
