Larry needs to have a VW restoration channel! He certainly has the personality and skill for it. I love car restoration videos (especially VW restorations!) as many people do. I've been following Mitch Bergsma's channel featuring the restoration at Skinner's Classics shop in California of his 1967 bus. Their skill, knowledge and attention to detail is outstanding to say the least. Definitely looking forward to Larry's progress on this little beauty!

Larry's methods are very similar to Scott's at Cold War Motors except that Scott often shapes panels from scratch with shrinkers and stretchers. Scott is getting sick of welding though and so needs to work with a young welder. He often shapes panels for his friends to weld in.

Not only does Yoda, oh, i mean Larry, have Master Skills, but he has the innate skills of teaching. And well, an excellent student Jason, you are!! Thanks to you Jason and Larry. Take care my friend. John here from the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee.
Totally enjoying watching the restoration of this VW bug. thank you so much for taking the time to film it and share it with us. hopefully we can stay with it till the end?
It clearly shows that Larry has been doing this a day or two and so cool that he is taking the time to make you better rounded when working on VW's. I think you both share a passion of keeping the old alive and I remember back a lot of years ago when I first got started in body repair and the older guys were teaching me how to lead joints instead of today's body filler. Everything you learn will stick with you through the years, even if you don't use that particular skill everyday. Keep up the vids Jason. Thanks
Larry is truly an artisan in auto body work. It takes skill, patience and attention to detail to do a top notch restoration on classic cars, and I really enjoy watching you guys work. Makes me chuckle when I think about all of the negative viewer comments that I've read on older 5150mxVW videos, such as "Junk that POS", or "I'd part that car out, you can't restore it". Well, you CAN restore cars if you have the skills and ambition to do so, and think about the pride and sense of accomplishment you'd have when you rescue a car from the crusher, restore it, and bring it back to near new condition. Good video, Jayson - thanks to you & Larry!
Oh man I've had to watch it again, i feel asleep! That's epic you were at the new halen show! During high school i saw van halen 3 times with Dave., met eddie in an elevator where they were staying! Then during college i had seen van hagar twice. Then after college i ended up in cabo and missed them bye a week, DAMMIT! It's cool to see you on a restoration banging away. Larry is the man, and you are no slouch yourself! Enjoying the series brother, I'm stoked for you..
Larry knows what he is doing. I used to do some bodywork as a hobby, no longer able to due to health. When you get into it as Larry says you get the feel. I know what he means and it will just become second nature. I think you are getting the hang of it Jason and with Larry's help you will be restoring your cars like a pro. I used to find it very pleasing doing panel beating, Just don't set Jen's hair alight though you will be in the dog house! Seriously though think minimum body filler as Larry says and you will be fine Jason. Thanks to Larry once again for having us around I know it slows you down when you have to explain everything. Thanks Jason for filming and try not to be speechless, it's not like you at all!👍👍
Hey Mr. 5150 I think it's good that your working with Mr Larry. Just think of all the new skills you are going to learn. Good for you! Keep your videos coming
Larry is a Master. So well explained and excellent workmanship and Jason you did really well. Thanks for the opportunity to learn more. Bless you both.
Jason, I owned a '59 Bug when it was only about 9 years old, same colour blue, my first VW, so 1968, I'm remembering that it had more rust in the body even at that point in time, particularly the bottom of the A pillars and around those fender flanges than Larry's bug has now at 63 years old. They could rust pretty good alright! Great vid, Happy Christmas to you both and families.
What a great guy, sharing his knowledge and helping others learn. I like watching all of your videos but want to say that I am really enjoying this series and hope there is more to follow. It is nice to see you so happy and having some fun while doing some work. Never give up pushing cars around though. 😁
Awesome work, everybody should be lucky enough to have a Larry in their life. Great teamwork guys, looking forward to the nest instalment. =) Merry Christmas to you both.
It would be awesome if you made a video updating the status on all the cars you still have from prior videos, like the pine cone bug, the 58 rag top with all the metal work that needed done, ext. love your channel, I just stumbled upon it the other day and have been bingeing ever since.
I'm speechless,Larry is good,it's awesome to have a friend that lets you help, and learn along the way, after the lessons there shouldn't be a rusty VW on Jason's property lol jk my question is,after all the body work does he have it sand blasted down to bare metal or just sand the old paint to help the primer stick better, probably a dumb question but have to ask lol thanks Jason and Larry for the awesome videos
I gave away my '59 Mignonette green Beetle awhile back as it was just too far gone to restore. Or was it? Larry could have whipped it into shape for sure. Oh well. Thoroughly enjoying this series!
What the hell! You disappeared from my feed and then I see this 3 week old video... Still subscribed but I never saw the vid..... Nice video, Larry's a super guy!
VW used very small double threaded studs to attach the bumpers to the body. Most people just welded the bumper bracket to the body. Then there are the bolts that held the fenders on the body. My first experience in doing auto body repair. After all I was 15 and had lots of time and no money. However I did have my fathers ball peen hammer. Oh if I had cutting and welding equipment. However I had a big can of Bondo and a sander. Good video.
That's fun miss those days there's other fun metals tin, silver, and lead lightly done even less filler depending on whom it being done for of course the VW Arthorized float test was certified dye tank just a rarity now!!!; )
