You guys must have played havoc on building car and engine models as kids! Great job over all and instead of nit-picking the list of flaws I’ll just give you an A+ for effort (and for remembering where everything goes lol.)
Thanks for taking us along, it was fun to watch someone else get greasy for a change 😉
    👍🏼👍🏼 from this guy!
And remember, if you don’t have any spare parts when you’re done reassembling, then you didn’t do it right🤪

First of all, I’m not a mechanic. All I can say is the previous comments were spot on what shouldn’t have or should have been done. I cringed at using the wire wheel on the piston sides. I take it all in face value and as entertainment. Hats off that someone has the reputation and skillset to make necessary repairs for someone in need. I’m just always amazed in how so many removed parts can find their rightful place. Thanks for sharing.

I totally understand. I too grew up in a poor environment and learned early on, some of the basic skills to refurbish an engine or equipment Example, Take one of the broken rings to clean the bottom of the ring groves, allowing the new ones to seat properly. After cleaning the head and block mating surfaces, USA a little of the same lapping compound to seat the head and block together, same as the valves. Each individual valve was lapped to a specific location, but were mixed up when washing, thereby loosing the placement where you just made it fit !
Congratulations to him on tackling such an undertaking. The end result speaks highly of his skills 👏👏👏

Looks like you know what you're doing but let me drop down a few things you MUST adopt to for getting a job like this done professionally...
    1. All surfaces, most especially those with gaskets MUST never be scratched most especially the block and head ,oil seals too. Always be careful not to scratch such surfaces by laying soft towels on your work bench and taping off areas to receive seals.
    2. Adopt to using a torque wrench, torquing down all bolts to proper specs most especially for the crankshaft and camshaft and all other moving parts of the engine with bearings.
    3. It's very saddening to put the same old oil filter that was there before, of which that engine had mixed water with oil. This is going to contaminate the fresh oil you'll install.
    4. It's always important to mark off the camshaft and crankshaft or other multiple moving parts that won't be changed/ replaced such that you return them to the same place where they were as the rate of ware isn't the same at all moving parts.

The rear main seal on the crank was also installed backwards and will most likely start leaking after a short time.
The lip always has to point to the inside of the engine since that's where the pressure is coming from.
If it points to the outside of the engine it won't seal anything. Oil will just go through it.

    • @itsnetts
      @itsnetts Год назад

You didn't cringe when he was making visible scratches at 33:25 on the camshaft faces and using a steel wire wheel on the gasket faces? At least he lapped the valves. Checking bearing clearances would be important as well (AKA bearing calibration). Torque wrench and uniform tightening going around all the bolts on a part tightening them little by little would be vital as well. Don't get me started on the painting the engine without any taping to prevent paint from getting into the water pump, cylinders etc. Clearly these guys know a great deal about engines and love what they do, but these are kind of vital things to do with an engine rebuild.

No torque wrench used. The valve clearance was not adjusted. The cam lobe discs have to be replaced with ones that are proper size to achieve proper clearance. Not impressed. In my area this is called a spray can rebuild.

Never use an old oil filter that is contaminated with water fuel etc, if you do you have done all that work for nothing.

Where do you take your arm to be calibrated for use as a torque wrench? Fascinating. And why refuse the oil filter? Come on man…
