what's funny about this is that I'm almost sure Neeson was referencing 'black bastard' as a protestant hate crime not a racial one. Neeson's from just outside Belfast, Co.Antrim in Northern Ireland and obviously there is a lot of sectarian issues in Belfast between catholics (Irish republicans) and protestants (British unionists/loyalists). In the Irish war of independence the British forces were known as 'the Black and Tans' referring to their uniforms, the black uniforms (the B specials) were particularly brutal. Thus the common phrase of 'black bastard' in Northern Ireland being used by Catholics in Northern Ireland towards protestants.
