"the selection contains objects which cannot be distorted" is the pop-up i get when i try to use the envelope option. But i tried a different image and it worked. Please i want to ask why the first image i used didnt work

Could be something to do with the image format, I haven't encountered such issue thus far...

If you select the image, on the properties choose "Embed", it seems to then work :)

When you select the image click on the 'Embed' option in the Property Panel. That should resolve your issue.

Is the object being distorted vector or jpeg? because in my vector it has a jpeg and the jpeg format cannot be Envelope Distort

What file type is the box you are using, is it a jpg file? There are mockups in Creative Fabrica, etc but I don't know which file type to use. Which file types are not compatible with Adobe Illustrator?

Make sure that, once you Place the image Click on the Embed option on the top (Control Panel), that should do the trick...

If you're talking about the X- shaped frame then you can turn it off by clicking on the Embed option in property bar. And if you don't want the Bounding Box itself then you can turn it off by going to View Menu and Un-check 'The Show Bounding Box' option.
