Great to see an admirer covering Japan/Sylvian. A band of "musicians musicians" who sadly didn't have/want (well David at least) a longer run in the limelight.
I cannot read music, thus not a musician so I can only imagine they looked at their individual score sheets and thought WTF? Only when added together do all the idiosyncrasies fall into place. A beautiful arrangement covering a stunning song.
Conductor/keyboards Charles Hazlewood (check out his documentaries elsewhere on RUclips). Guitar, Adrian Utley from Portishead, drums, Seb Rochford from Polar Bear, Fulborn Teversham and others, arranger Charlotte Harding. Rest of the band is Hazlewood’s Paraorchestra.

On the surface, a simple 3/4 drift; a lullaby begging for understanding. Look closer and you'll find Shostakovich and Keats.
Yes, but on the surface pure Eric Satie; one man's plagiarism is another's homage.

Not enough good covers of this so glad I stumbled on it.
Wonderful cover. Brett is a great performer
Thank you, love this song
Love this and loved Japan too.
A profoundly dignifying rendition. Deeply moved. Thank you very much to all. ❣
Apart from Brett Anderson, who is everyone else ...? 🙂

Wonderful!
A beautiful rendition, the instrumental sublime, sorry Bret not quite the same feeling of melancholy.
Agreed. You can't beat Sylvian at his own melancholic game
sublime!
Excellent piece of music and the wonderful/delightful voice of one of the best vocalist ever.
So good!
💜
OMG
Hmnnn. Interesting.
You're very polite
Verstilde pracht!
Must be a fan but ....ooops
He aint no David Sylvian....
Prefer the original, sorry !
Music very nice.
Lyrics terrible.
Many songs do not need "versions", "mixes", should have left it well alone.
Wonderful!
