Townshend was, and is, a towering genius. It is amazing to hear his heartfelt, thoughtful reflections looking back over the years in which they produced music that I still find sublime today. I believe, moreso today than ever, that Qudrophenia was a spectacular piece of work and achievement.
For me, Quadrophenia is the best work Pete Townshend ever did. It's a masterpiece in rock music. It's amazing to think where the band was at the time and still they came out with such a great piece of work.
"the biggest of the century" could only be an overstatemen, such a pretentious nonsense cause this induces you know all the others, very american desease.
pete was exonerated they checked all his computers and found no child porn images. Pete was trying to shut down one of these sites. He has donated millions of dollars to victims of child abuse. He told the police about this site and the police forgot about it and screwed up. So do some homework before you make ridiculous comments.
moggy1231 Yes that was the reason he gave to the police initially, but he also gave different reasons further down the line. The donations to children's charities doesn't make him innocent it's a common trait known as virtue signalling, saville used to give big to charity too. Besides, he done that after the event, I guess as a damage limitation exercise I would imagine.
@@loosilu He's guilty (by his own admission) of watching child porn, that's why he agreed to be placed on the sex offenders register rather than go to court.
He felt lost with Quadrophenia? I was found with it. Best album by far for me. Possibly the best album by any band. It probably didn't travel well because it was exclusively a British themed concept. I'm guessing here.
I think Pete is saying it was too "orchestral" and they didn't have enough time to perfect it before taking the album on tour. Tommy was good, but Amazing Journey/Sparks on the Leeds album was phenomenal. To call Who''s Next as "good" is quite an understatement. Tommy at 24 and Quadrophenia at age 28 is songwriting that can't be topped. Only Lennon/McCartney for all those years and Jagger/Richards with so many great hits are arguably better or in the same league. Maybe Pete got a little pissed when Led Zeppelin came along and stole the show with their huge commercial success.Isle of Wight in 1970 was one hell of a show, even if musically I'd consider Live at Leeds a bit better musically.
Fear not, it is one of the works Pete is proudest of. Yes as an American, the theme felt exotic- but some of us wished so hard to be British, to have that sort of youth movement and fashion we didn’t have, it may have caused American New Wave. Townshend is right, the orchestra bits are tough live. They should have pressed Punk/ Godfather, 5:15, The Real Me- all explosive rock
He meant Lifehouse, which was a failure in the way it never got made. It did yield Who's Next which he calls a good record (it's incredible of course!) but it wasnt the project they were actually working on
@@ThemeParkChomp I know Who's Next was well into their career but anyone wanting to get into The Who should start there. It's an amazing piece of work.
Interviewer brought something new to the interview (oil crisis 1973) and you can see Pete appreciates and opens up. Title of this video should include Quadrophenia since that is mainly what Pete is talking about.
Tommy had become such a household name and was so identified with The Who that a friend of mine, at the time, was talking about Tommy's The Who. Not that he was very familiar with music and there wasn't much information available either, but it does show that the album and the band had become almost interchangeable.
If you mean the actual storyline, then yes, most Yanks dont get it. But if mean musically, they are currently able to do justice to the project, and have been, going on 20 years.

A true rock god. My favorite rockstar of all time, easily. And The Who take the cake for my favorite band as well. RIP Moonie, and The Ox

My favorite album of all time
Tommy, Live At Leeds, Whos Next, Quadrophenia. Four cosmically epic albums. In a row!
Quadrophenia is the Who at their best
I agree. I was 16 and saw that Detroit show
Yes, I'm surprised to hear him talking so negatively about it. Quadrophenia is a fantastic album. And the film is superb too.
One of the all time great songwriter my favorite. Rock group growing up in New Jersey
Calling "Who's Next" a good album: biggest understatement of the century!
yeah right!
I consider it the greatest rock album ever released.
Phenomenal album

Pete's one of the best guitarists and songwriters of the rock era, great singer, and performer, and the best schnozola since Jimmy Durante.

The Who are the greatest true rock band ever. Fucking rock all the way

Do yourself and everyone else a favor: take 2 minutes to research what actually happened before making such blatantly erroneous comments.
Keeping a comment to oneself would be contradictory considering that the posting of a comment is with the intent of others seeing it.
Or as somebody once put it, "Roger Daltrey was as good-looking as Pete Townshend was goofy-looking."
and Quadrophinia, the main subject not in the description
He also exxcepted a police caution, which is correct,he was advised to by his brief,if he was innocent he would not of,
