- @SIRUIImaging is no stranger to budget anamorphic's. Their latest release known as the Sirui Saturn series is probably the best mirrorless anamorphic I've seen to date. It contains all the anamorphic characteristics while staying incredibly small and lightweight, making it an extremely versatile lens for all setups.

I love how small it is, but that distortion at the edges looks REALLY gnarly. Seems to be the exact opposite type of distortion that wider anamorphic lenses are normally known for. Always appreciate the videos, dude!
Hey hey Benj!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
The distortion is definitely going the other way of traditional anamorphic lenses. At first I wasn't sure how I'd like it, but I actually like the look of it especially when you have a center subject. It sort of leads the viewers eyes to the center and also makes the subject a little slimmer looking.

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

GREAT review!
So glad you enjoyed it Seantewillis!
Thanks a lot for the review. A future e-mount version with T2.0 aperture and improved close focus capabilities (even if a bit bigger) will be the ideal set up for me. Thanks again for all your videos❤️
Definitely would love to see some of these anamorphic get down to T2.0 for sure. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Thanks for the heads up on the upcoming EF and PL mounts. I interested to check those out.
Hey hey Orig Entertainment!
You're most welcome! I am excited too, to see what they will do for that line-up and pricing.
Great review. You switched me off great joy which was the one I leaned to from other reviews and it being neutral to pick up other colors helped
Hey hey Colin!
Glad this video was helpful in which anamorphic company you'd be leaning to!
@@TLDR_filmmaker it will be Sirui now
good stuff, tbf there are coverage tests on yt about the nanomorphs, they cover way more than s35 and over 2:1 on full frame as it seems
Hey hey Nortical!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
I just found the video you were referencing about the nanomorphs covering well past S35. The only odd thing about that video is that the vignette from the unsqueezed footage does not really match the de-squeezed footage so I'm not sure how much I would need to crop in on those lenses. That being said it definitely looks like you could get away with a 3:2 filming mode in FF. I wonder why they didn't find a way to get the nanmorphs to cover FF completely.

Just waiting for that L-mount and I’ll probably pick one up just to play with anamorphic features of the S5iiX. :)
MrHeeeeng!
I myself am curious if Sirui will potentially add an L-Mount to this series of lenses. Part of me is not sure because it looks like this lens is aimed at mirrorless cine style cameras. However with Panasonic becoming more relevant soon, we just might just get our wish!
@@TLDR_filmmaker L Mount Saturn is now available and Panasonic has long been ahead of the curve when it comes to anamorphic shooting modes especially shooting open gate. Lumix is so much more versatile than Sony when shooting anamorphic.
Thanks for a great video. Do you have any idea if Surui have a roadmap to develop a set of these? Even a 75 to go with this one would be brilliant.
I unfortunately don't know if their road map will include all their bigger 1.6x brothers. My hope is that they do!
Great overview and things to consider as more and more anamorphic lenses come to market! Curious…What diopters are you running?
Hey hey Jeremey!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
I am running those cheap cheap diopters set for $30. This one specifically geni.us/1b8LRR (affiliate link)
They do quite a good job, the only time they run into trouble is if you have a flaring light source too close to the lens.
Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Still waiting for the more useful pl or ef mounts. Chances are it'll be the silly extended pl, just to make them less useful.
Same, I'm guess Sirui is behind schedule since they just released their night walker primes. And I sincerely hope they don't do that extended PL... like come on.
not to be "needy"... but I need a TLDR Film review of the new Zoom M3 before I purchase to replace the Comica VM20. Make it happen bro. love your reviews.
Hey hey again Itsbeerdrank!
Not sure if i'll be able to deliver. We'll see if Zoom sends me one to review.
However on a quick initial look. The features is has is awesome, no doubt. For what it is, its well worth the price to have a backup 32-bit float recording. The use of nice AA batteries while on set. The only thing that worries me is if and when it decides to pic up RF signals, specifically from smartphones. The radio waves are too low for anyone to really hear it when someones talking at normal volume. But the Cellphone interference is a problem. So at this time I would love to see what Zoom does first to address the cellphone RF interference.
Hope this helps!
Is the X mount version of this lens still 35mm? even though its APS-C?
Just ordered the Saturn with neutral flares for my a7siii. Excited to see what I can make with it. I kind of want to get the adapter to use with my Helios 44-2 58mm, wonder how they’d cut together.
Hey hey Starski!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
Congrats and have fun with the Saturn 35mm when it arrives! Don't forget to get a set of diopters to really make the lens sing during those close up shots! Here are the ones I used: geni.us/1b8LRR (Affiliate link)
As for the adaptor for the helios. While getting a slightly wider FOV shot. I think the only other noticeable bit would be the flares. Otherwise the Bokeh will look relatively unchanged due to the small squeeze factor.

any updates on the pairing?
@@ginoromariodeabreu be on the look out for the new upcoming blazer 1.5x adaptor made by great joy. It’s looking very interesting compared to their 1.35x adapter
@@ginoromariodeabreu which pairing? The 35mm Saturn is amazing I also got the 75mm Venus which just looks so good for close ups
@@TLDR_filmmaker Wow had to google it, the great joy blazar nero 1.5x is exciting indeed!
Any news when the EF version will be coming?
I still have not heard anything. They recently released a spherical S35 prime set. They seem to be missing their original deadline for a 1.5x EF/PL anamorphic :(
oh God look at that 0:36 🤩! I don't know if my wallet can keep up with this trip down the rabbit hole!, great video as always!

Deal breaker is all the distortion wobble when the lens shakes. I see this in every review
Hey hey Jerry!
For sure with vlogging the wobbles, especially on the Sony, is not gonna look all that great. Panasonic would be a bit better, but ultimately you'd want to film anamorphic with no IBIS and on a gimbal to keep it as leveled as possible. This was just a fun experiment. If I was to really vlog with an anamorphic I would probably refrain from Walk and Talk shots.
@@TLDR_filmmaker I guess my concern is shooting handheld indie films on a shoulder rig - not vlogs
Ah I see. I feel the Panasonic cameras will handle the jitters a bit better. But if you were really wanting lessen the shake. Hollywood handheld / shoulder rigs are quite heavy. 20-30lb's maybe. This helps with the jitters. Another thing hollywood does is fly the camera on a steadicam rig and or add a gimbal on top to make it like the Arri Trinity. This is very different from the shoulder rig feel, but I saw them use this technique for the movie "Elysium" during the action fight sequences. Definitely the most bulky setup of the bunch, but I can see why Hollywood goes these routes when using anamorphic lenses.
@@TLDR_filmmaker good to know this is issue with all anamorphic

1800 usd in europe....not really budget
Hey hey again Leroy!
Holy cow 1800 usd in Europe?! Ooof that is a big jump in price over there. Is it mainly due to the import tax laws over there?
@@TLDR_filmmaker glad that you remember me :). I dont know why the tax this lens that much. E.U is a dumb system
