Quick tip. First time removal of wipers can be tough. Loosen the nut but leave on the post. Using channel locks, squeeze the wiper arm up toward the nut.
David Nibeck wish I saw this comment 2 hours ago before a blowtorch, lubricant, pry bar, pliers... thank you, saved me a lot more time and likely the purchase of a tool specifically for removing them.
My passenger wiper blade came off with no effort. The driver side however, is on super tight. Search web for ideas, saw this post. I put the nut back on the post, loose, and used channel locks to squeeze. Came loose in seconds. Thank you for the suggestion, it worked great.
Helpful video. Just wish it included the windshield tie down kit. I know; it's not that complicated but would have been nice to complete all of the steps.
Does this have any affect (chipping) of the painted hinges? Mine appear to be painted through and my concern would be exacto-knife to cut the paint but end up with possible rust? Or am I overthinking?!
We tried this, and it does not seem to work for the Sky Roof option, as the side rails are what looks to be riveted into place at the top of the windshield. I think luxury and windshield folding were conflicting priorities. Its as though the hardtop is still in place even when this roof is down, mechanically.
I just found out the answer! No! Mark the placement of the wiper arms with blue painters 👩🎨 tape prior to removal! And use a windshield wiper arm removal tool.
JL pros -body color roll bar -flat horizontal dash -lighter/aerodynamics = better MPG -soft top without ‘cross bar’ -soft top no zippers -real metal interior detail -real hardware (not faux bolts) interior -larger cup holders -air vents for cooling under hood -more slant in windshield -doors stay opened -cabin is slightly longer -possibly the engine(s) -8 speed transmission -quicker throttle response JL cons -the bumpers (front and back) -front running lights on fender flare -too much digital visual “noise” on dash
In our opinion, the seals look good and it's held securely in place with the bolts across the top of the windshield frame. Jeep even incorporated integrated drain hoses that run down into the fender area to allow for any water that makes its way under the seal to drain out, instead of dripping on the interior of the Wrangler.
Jeffrey, we wanted to show the straps, however they're not available yet, and of course Jeep isn't including them with the Wrangler... They're an optional accessory. We have ordered them from MOPAR we're just waiting on them to get delivered. Maybe we'll make a follow-up video showing how to use the straps when we get them.
took me 10 mins in my jk , and i like the way mine looks all open , just like the willy they had no window frame .looks like the glass was removed on the jl ,,.
@@rslemieux use tons of wd40 and rent a tool from autozone I forget what its called but its like a. Clip that'll go onto the wiper and a bolt will pull up easily removing them. Only the glass folds down. That weird A pillar is still there. So what happens to the A pillar if this thing goes on it's side or rakes a rock wall somewhere like Moab? With the aluminum body to work with, will it ever fit right and seal again?
Yes, unfortunately even with the windshield folded down, it's not a completely open feel like with previous Wranglers or CJs because the sport bars / a-pillar / sun visors are all still in place. We're sure that was mandated by federal safety guidelines that Jeep had to comply with. We can't attest to the durability of smashing the a-pillar into a rock wall and not deforming it. Even if the windshield was up, that would probably cause sealing issues, even with older Jeeps.
sean To each their own. I'm sure a lot of people will like it, and I wish them luck. Personally I'll stick with the older models. Something about a basic trail rig with less electronics and creature comforts appeals to me anyways.
I had many Jeeps, and I have JL now, but one thing that will never happen is to put windshield down. That is just dumbest move to any vehicle. I understand that is tradition from old military Jeeps (GP) and was used with windshield down so you can shot ahead of you. There is absolutely no other purpose to put windshield down
WARNING...IF THE WIPERS HAVE NEVER BEEN REMOVED BEFORE. My JLUR is six months old. I wanted to remove the wiper arms to fold down the windshield. I removed the plastic cap. I then put the 15 mm socket on the Jeep tool kit socket wrench. The socket wrench is made the opposite of most wrenches. The wrench is a female and the socket is male. So the socket has a very small shaft. I put the socket on the wiper nut and slowly tried to turn the handle. Immediate the socket shaft snapped off inside the wrench. The wrench is now useless! I pulled out a long handle 15 mm box wrench and the wiper arm nut took a lot of torque before it began to move. So if the nut doesn't want to budge use a lot of penetrating oil to loosen it up. Next, after the nut is removed...supposedly the arm will slide up off of the wiper armature. NOPE...the arm was also locked onto the armature.(over-tightened/corroded??). I had to buy a battery post puller and keep spraying penetrating oil for 24 hours, to pull the arm off the armature. This video is another of those 'easy/peasy' videos where every bolt and nut easily spins off. I wonder how much effort was edited out?
This is just a visual of what is written in the owners manual. I think they assume that you have a basic mechanical ability. Most serious rock crawlers do most of their installations themself. Your Soccer Mom Mall Crawler probably will never fold their windshield. There is always some sort of difficulty any time you have to take something apart.

Go to an autoparts store and borrow a gear puller - just have to do it once a season. Makes it easy.

I'm assuming the 4 long bolts are the same ones that hold the bracket up that clamps the roof panels down.
Is the tie down kit something you are supposed to get with the jeep?
Hoping for a aftermarket, fast fold down windshield kit...Maybe fast wing spinning bolts, and quick release wipers...
Faster than two minutes and 25 seconds?
Does this have any affect (chipping) of the painted hinges? Mine appear to be painted through and my concern would be exacto-knife to cut the paint but end up with possible rust? Or am I overthinking?!
I wish the cj's system was still used lol
Amen to that, used to LOVE that.
Where can I get the windshield strap kit? Don’t see it on your website.
Deniz Yalcin do u mean to strap it down to the hood so it won’t bounce? I was worried about bouncing
where is the tie down kit on your site
Why did they make this so hard on the JK

Are the wiper arms keyed so they install in the same position or will I have to mark the position prior to removing the arms?

Would there be no water leaks when you put it back on, those windshield, hard top panels and doors during heavy rains???

Nice video. Wish you would've shown the Tie Down Straps as well though. Also, how about another showing the windshield being removed completely?

Does not take 10min on the jk
Please develop a camera extension so people who has after market when. Can see Better!
Remove the windshield completely and also weigh it.
Too bad the wipers aren't placed like how the yj's were. They fold down with the windshield and didn't need removing
We couldn't help thinking that while making this video!
Well if you’re inclined to do this often, you could just keep the windshield heavily coated with rainx and just leave the wipers off...
My wipers are seized onto the bolts, Jeep is not even 1 year old.

Freedomquest08 a full cage isn’t a creature comfort, it’s a safety feature.
wow fun
Now you need a Sawzall to remove that hideous windshield frame support.
You need lockers

rslemieux it’s not seized, the wiper arm is press fit onto the spline. Just pull straight off and wiggle slightly, it will come loose.
