    I find it ironic that the parents who told OP to "follow Emma's example" and "don't come back when you fail" are now saying "I'm proud of you" and "please help us." I'm not surprised that Emma ignores how her actions at her former law firm and how she treated those around her, including her sister and family, have consequences.

    This is why the sister wanted to get op a job at the law firm. Op was going to be her fall guy when her scam got exposed. Sister got sloppy because she couldn't handle op throwing it in her face about the parents still pay for her things.
    The sad part is the parents will look to op to help them since sister ate through so much of their savings. Also, wouldn't the sister be in bigger trouble at the law firm. If anything, it might blacklist her from other firms.

    • @Jamie-qu4zu
      @Jamie-qu4zu 2 месяца назад +12

      I did not think about that - cause what sibling would want the black sheep of the family at the same job as them? Either she wanted to paint herself as a saint and good Samaritan or make OP the fall guy as you stated. I don't know if this would equal jail time, but I would assume that she would be blacklisted and have a mark on her record for several years.

    • @AnimeFreakX4
      @AnimeFreakX4 2 месяца назад +12

      @Jamie-qu4zu being seen as the Saint who helped the black sheep and used said person as their fall guy, is most likely what happened.
      I'm reminded of another reddit story where an op was a black sheep of their family and got a job at their golden child cousins company. They were under paid for the level of work they did, took blame that was actually the cousins fault and how the cousin passed off all that persons success as their own. Cousin was making a lot of money and got all their friends high paying jobs. When op complained cousin and other family members pulled the family card.
      The cousin refused to pay them what they are owed. So that op left and went to work for a rival company. The cousins company fell apart since the cousins friends didn't know what they were doing and just blew the companies money. Of course the cousin blamed the op and fhe family did as well believing all the cousins lies how they sabotaged their company. The cousin was male and that stories op was female and the family thought less of the op for not being a good girl and doing what they told her to do.

    Until OP mentioned how smug her sister looked when OP announced she was moving out….I would have said maybe Emma genuinely wanted to help OP because sisterly love. But no…that was the very last straw. And the fact the parents continuously just kept putting OP down as they “tried to convince her to stay”..they don’t get to feel victimized. Happy OP was able to thrive after so many years of being torn down. Getting out was probably what she really needed to spread her wings and flourish. As for Emma…karma hit too late but seemed well deserved. No one stays the “superior” golden child forever…and her lil leaving jab boomeranged right back at her. As for the parents…regret came far too late as it’s only coming because the “precious baby” showed how much of a demon she is and was still leeching off her parents. So now they come to OP hoping for reconciliation and have the shoe on the other foot

    The fact that OP is still in contact with the parents is mindboggling to me because they're the biggest AHs here. Once OP messes up too or the sister gets back on her feet, the parents are going to abandon her too.

    If your parents favor one of their children, always keep in mind that it could just as easily be the other way around. Parental love is supposed to be unconditional. If parents are not capable of giving you that unconditional love, it will always fuck with your brain. It doesn't really matter if you're the favorite or the black sheep - both roles mean that you have to invest more time and energy to develop and maintain your sense of self-worth independently from your parents. I loved that OP repeatedly said she felt sorry for her sister, and understood that she didn't have it easy either. That's just the point. If your parents are incapable of unconditional love, it will affect you one way or another. If everything goes well, siblings may be able to bond over a shared understanding of the toxicity of their upbringing. Unfortunately, the dynamics of a toxic family (including role reversals like described by OP) can end up driving siblings apart instead.

    "she said they felt betrayed and didn't know what to do"
    Aha, you mean like how the parents betrayed OP? seems about right
    They should get ripped apart for the BS they pulled over the years
    I mean come on, the parents literally gave 0 shits about OP until the golden child failed, then _suddenly_ OP was somehow good enough
    What BS man, yikes

    The parents aren't interested. They just realized they wouldn't be able to survive off the other daughter when they got older, so they switched to you. THAT BEING SAID

    I wish the parents werent jerks about it but they arent wrong about art prospects and jobs. As an artist, I dual as a CIS major with art as a major hobby. I can use it for design and games, and I write manga in my free time. Finished my first book, just need to touch up. You can be an artist without going to school, its oveely expensive and a scam for art lovers, they prey on artists financially. History can be found online and learning art is all about practice. Its a subjective craft based on theory and very little objectivity. School only indoctrinates when it comes to art. Learning fundamentals takes some trusted video lessons. You should only go to school if you need more in person lessons like physical painting, charcoal, etc. Everything is digital now, so its best to learn on your own and study using the internet. Its not like math or science where its incredibly objective and a degree is everything for work. Art degrees dont change many minds in the art world. Just show you have a good portfolio and some personal projects and put yourself out there with a decent back up plan

    One question keeps going through my head, making me think that this is fake.... how did OPs sister know where she lived?
    If i had a family that treated me like this, i would never let them know where i moved... and also, if op told them, i doubt they would care, so it seems illogical that she would tell them.

    OP's parents are the a**holes here. They loved their golden child until they didn't. Then they dumped her and ran back to OP. Fairweather parents who don't deserve kids.

    It's not your fault it's your parents fault because they favored their Golden child over her and they called her a disappointment and they paid for her Golden child apartment instead of her other daughter and that's not right and they should pay for their actions and go to hell for what they have done to her and if you guys can't see that then you guys are delusional and they don't deserve anything for favoritism and calling her a disappointment.

    This sounds Asian to me. I know quite a few Asian families with the parents mentality. Probably not the only ethnic group that has this mentality.
    Oddly my dad used to tell the youngest of us, 6 kids, that she didnt need to work hard because the rest of us will look after her. I dont know why he thinks this.

    All i can say is cry me a river. Why is this even a story for real? Was that childhood supposed to gain sympathetic tears? I keep waiting for the big reveal of how her life was so toxic. I got nothing.
    Her parents favored one child due to the more traditional activity success. Not unusual for any family. Parents obsessed over great grades rather than settling for just good? Not unusual for indian, asian or wasp white families. Parents showed disapproval towards artist as a careet due to stability? Yeah, that isn't abuse my friend, it is simply parents banking on the more logical choices for sustained livelihood in the future.
    You whine and cry about how hard your life is, but your parents never denied you anything. YOU GOT TO PURSUE ART AS A CAREER, WITHOUT ANY LIMITATIONS. The only thing you had to deal with was a little passive aggressiveness and parents playing emotional favorite (not financial).
    TL;DR: OP is whining about how her parents played favorites while she pursued being an artist. 1st World Problems.

    After seing so many historys of golden child, all of them comes to shit parents, in this video even the OP felt sorry for her sister but welcome th shit parents again, every person has theyr own way of handle traumas, but one think that i learn is that parents have all the blame in how theyr childs behave.
