2:09 I always assumed that move was essentially an early version of Judgement Cut End, since Vergil dashes forward and disappears, leaves behind a bunch of dimensional slashes, and then reappears afterwards before sheathing Yamato.
Boss-Vergil has another entirely unique property, that is he can chain 6 Judgment Cuts in a row (on Hard and higher), unlike the player who can chain only 3. Also his teleports don't have range restrictions, and Round Trip\Stinger have way bigger maximum range. Another interesting point is that when boss-Vergil starts to spam Helm Breakers, his first teleport is very high, and then he gets lower and lower making his Helm Breakers faster and faster, then he hits the lowest point and resets into a different chain (the same one or the one with Yamato scabbard hits+Upper Slash+Stinger)
I've heard that having better style makes the combos go for longer because it reduces the amount of time between button presses allowed. I wonder if maybe you can get 6 but the timing is very close?
I don't understand why they removed so many unique aspects from boss Vergil to his playable state, would have made the character way more showey and fun to use like dmc 4 Vergil
Hot take, but I really didn't like playing as Vergil in DMC4: SE. He just trivialized so much of that game, it didn't make it worth playing through Son of Sparda. He was a bit more tolerable on Legendary Dark Knight, which I felt he was designed for, but I only made it up to mission 14 as I've given up as I didn't to deal with the Faults anymore than I already have. Vergil was actually fun to play in DMC3 'cause you couldn't get away with just mashing buttons and somehow getting a cool combo and a piss easy SSS grade. You actually had to work for it, and figure out on the fly how you can pull off flashy moves with such a limited skill list. It honestly made him more exciting. I have never played the Special Edition of Devil May Cry 5, only the standard edition on Luna, but if he's anything like he is in 4 then I just know I wouldn't like playing as him on there or even as a DLC character on Steam.
@@kaydebastion well in 4 he was made to freely express his power and it's great , it's just that the game was exclusively designed around nero's slower gameplay
@@MGrey-qb5xz The problem with Vergil isn't that he's got too many moves. Dante, especially in 5 has a hell of a skill set but he's still fun to play. The problem with Vergil is that he's got too many moves for his own sake, to the point where you can pretty much just mash and still get a flashy combo--I've literally seen people describe him as such, which I think is just kinda antithetical to core philosophy of Devil May Cry. But Dante always had twice the amount of moves and weapons, minus 4, of his brother but even he required skill to juggle through his arsenal and Styles. The Yamato is a great example: just compare the skills of the Yamato in 3 to the later installments. If you wanted to rely solely on the Yamato and get an easy SSS grade, you can in 4 and I'd guess 5. In 3 however, you couldn't--and this is exactly what I mean by it going against the intent of Devil May Cry: when you play as Dante, yeah you can all these different tools and abilities at your disposal, and you didn't have to mess around so much with menus or Divinity Statues to change weapons and play styles, as is typical in action games,-and of course, 3-but each weapon had such a limited moveset you could barely rely on a single weapon unless you were _really_ good. Vergil's got about 1/3 of his brother's arsenal, but just his Yamato alone almost dwarves Dante's whole kit. I just find it so ironic that they've made Vergil so in 4 and 5 because wasn't that Nero's job? Ya know, to be the entry level character for those who haven't played a DMC game before?
It's because of PlayStation 2. The console had a lot of limitations and that's why they had to cut a lot of moves like boss Vergil's movesets and coat/hair physics of Dante and quick drive.
This is a cool mod, I did feel like DMC3’s playable Vergil was rather lackluster compared to boss Vergil, I’d argue DMC5’s Vergil does give the player more access to Vergil’s actual boss power. However DMC3’s playable Vergil isn’t bad I enjoy playing as Vergil in DMC3 from time to time he’s much more difficult to play in 3 for the casual player compared to DMC5’s Vergil who’s a lot more forgiving to play as but I’m used to 3’s combat so it’s not that different for me hahah.
@@lightmohamed5700 DMC4 Vergil felt pretty mehh. Definitely felt harder to chain judgment cuts that’s for sure. Especially perfect judgment cuts. In DMC3 and 5 it’s easier to do rapid judgment cuts. DMC3 has a limit of 3, and 5 is just about timing.
@ScoutTheSpartan actually I just replayed both last night and scrap that i prefer DMC3 much more mainly because of his trick action it's one of my favorite things about vergil overall but DMC4 tricks are extremely limited due to most of them being locked to devil trigger My problem with DMC3 vergil is how limited he is compared to his boss battle so many cool moves that are boss exclusive was quite disappointing but he is definitely better than DMC4
@@lightmohamed5700 tricks feel extremely sluggish in DMC4 almost as if the game doesn’t want you using them. The delay in between tricks is annoying as hell.
Thank you! I've never knew he has different taunts for his "BoB"-phase. And I've always dreamed about playable Vergil receiving his boss-parry, it would've been so slick and in-character, something high-skill with little parry window and a long recovery (which you may or may not be able to cancel), something to contrast Dante's Royal Guard and give Vergil more tools for stylish defensive combat, maybe even with unique follow-ups after a successful parry - but we never got one :(.
Yeah, I believe you are correct. But I couldn't show that off due to the fact that you literally can't do much with Boss Vergil when trying to play as him. He can't move or do combo moves (Unless you're playing as BOB). He can only do a handful of moves seen in the DDMK command list for some reason.
Not really, he just skips the first two hits of Force Edge, that is he has the same combo as the player but with 4 total hits instead of 6. He also has a combo that combines entirely different moves and can be replicated by the player, that is first two scabbard hits of the Yamato, then upper slash, then up teleport (however player can't teleport as high as boss-Vergil can), helm breaker and stinger. Boss-Vergil has another entirely unique property however, that is he can chain 6 judgment cuts in a row, unlike the player who can chain only 3.
I wonder if it's possible to use his boss version through codebreaker on ps2 by finding his code string, since his code just like Lady's is a playable character type of code, but neither were originally unlockable, if so, could you tell me boss Vergil's code string?
That would be cool ngl. Sadly, I'm playing on PC using mods. So that won't be a possibility. Besides, I have literally no knowledge regarding codebreaker.
