I started off doing an 18-hour fast every day with two low-carb meals in a 6-hour window. What a game changer. The weight literally melted away in the beginning. I lost 30 pounds in the first 32 days. I ended up losing 52 pounds overall. Now I'm exercising, so I've added some healthy carbs back into my diet. I'm maintaining my current weight as I'm adding muscle and losing fat. I highly recommend fasting to everyone. It's tough in the beginning, but the benefits are amazing. You won't regret doing it. I promise

I’ve been doing 18hrs trf with two low carb meals and consistent resistant training. It worked well just as in your case. However, after I got lean over the years - I have started losing muscle. All I’ve changed at this point is to have some lean protein on my training days right after I exercise in the morning. It seems to be working. And yeah, I’ve re added some easy carbs into my life and it only got things better.

I've been doing low carb and IF for the last.. oh, 112 days (but who's counting?). I'm down 51.2 lbs in that time. From 239.2 down to 188.2. 37 lbs of that is fat, the rest is muscle. I've noticed an increase in the amount of muscle I've been losing daily over the last week or so. I've long wondered if I can just do my routine and get down to 15% body fat. I started at 32.7% and am currently at 21.9%. I estimate I have 14.97 lbs of fat to go to hit my goal. The question I've been asking myself is, do I need to incorporate a second meal that is also high in protein to stem the muscle loss?
I found the answer in a podcast where a doctor just threw this number out. I can source if anybody cares for the video. What he said is that a pound of body fat can only contribute 30 calories a day in energy. So if you do the math, I started with 78.22 lbs of fat. That gives me 2,346.6 calories from fat that I can access daily. But now, with 41.22 lbs of body fat, I can only access 1,236.6 calories. This explains why my muscle mass is now going down faster than it was a few weeks back. I am likely in a calorie deficit of 300-500 calories a day now, and my body has to swipe the energy from somewhere, so the muscle has to go.
To me, the solution that makes the most sense is to increase protein intake. This likely means opening up my feeding window wider than 4-6 hours, though I'd still like to keep it in the six hour range if possible. My point is, if you are going to do intermittent fasting, be aware of the 30 calories per pound of body fat limit and adjust upwards your calorie intake from protein sources as body fat continues to drop to levels that can't supply your necessary caloric needs.

If you are losing lean mass you probably need less carbs and more fat. Excess protein without enough fat will train your body to use lean mass instead of "burning" fat. It's fine to eat more than once a day as long as you maintain a ketogenic state. Eating any amount of carbs will lead to fat storage and gluconeogenisis. So zone 2 running while fasting?.. How often? Every day? How long?.

You should search out the story of a guy that ran five marathons in five days while fasting. He was not even a trained runner, but it is a fascinating experiment. I can't remember which channel...

Dr. Ali doesn’t know much about making muscles.
