So I was going to get an iPad Pro to replace my 2015 iPad, but I think I'll just get one of these instead. Plus, I have an S10+ so getting this tablet makes more sense.
Just to follow up on this I received my Tab S6 in the post yesterday and omg it's amazing. I can't quite get over how thin it is, how on earth they managed to fit a 7k battery in this I don't know. The screen is jaw dropping and the sound through the speakers is pretty good to.
DeX is awesome.seems like RUclips reviews are typically lukewarm about it why. This could definitely replace you laptop for as a study companion for school
You just showed me the many things I want for a tablet. Portable "laptop" for my documents, emails etc etc. Gaming tablet, especially fortnite, PUBG and emulators, amd last but not the least, video binge watching. And I wanna say thank you.
so, i have been using dex (on my s10 and my tab s5e) and its working incredibly fine. im not using my laptop with win10 anymore, because everything i need to to dex can do in a very good way. it always depends on what youre doing, but if you need to consume media, do webbrowsing, video editing, playing some games, be productive with either docs or office, dex is a very nice and very smooth way to do so. afterall, you dont need expensive hardware (the tab s5e for example costs 400 euros in germany) to do everything just fine. dont look at people who say you cant do this and you cant do that, it always depends on what YOUR needs are :)
Kinda wish i had this while i was taking college cause writing papers on dex during class would make it really easy. Instead i had to use a crappy ipad to take notes its pretty bad..
I'm really interested in video editing on Android. I went on a bicycle tour from the US to Panama and lugged around a notebook with me just to edit videos. The problem was I never wanted to lug it out and since it was a notebook I'd need to be near power and it had a huge power brick so I couldn't' charge it with a powerbank and on top of that it was heavy to carry on my bicycle. A tablet is lighter, can be charged through a powerbank, and I can pull it out in my tent to edit video. I have a pretty small phone but I'll need to try it on that. If I can do basic video editing then I think I'll get one of these before I take off for South America.
@@ETAPRIME that sounds amazing, I have a Moto g7 so I use scrcpy to put it on my monitor but it works to the same effect relatively well, it's quite fun honestly
I use Geforce Now with my Note 9 on my monitor, although I could throw it up on my tv too if I wanted I guess. Awesome service so far and the price just can't be beat! I was using Shadow PC before to play windows games.
Nice video! Well, I think this tablet is great in terms of hardware and definitely the software with Dex is a great advantage in terms of productivity options. But it would be great if Samsung started treating its tablets differently from how it treats its Smartphones and give it more software updates. Don't give me wrong. I know that although Tab s6 probably will not receive more than 2 major software updates, it will work well for longer anyway; I think it would be more worth the investment if Samsung provides it with new functions and features over time (similar to Apple with its iPads), since with that hardware it is more than capable. On the other hand, I think Samsung also needs more continuity and consistency with its projects, since at this point we don't even know if LoD is going to continue, and we don't know if the new integration with Microsoft will reach previous devices (like the Tab s4).
I really hope Google keeps improving the desktop mode that's in Android 10 now. I don't want to be reliant on one single manufacturer to get me a way to dock my Android devices and use them on a big screen. Arguably it is even cooler when you do it using a phone. The flagship phones have exactly the same CPU etc and other hardware as this tablet and should be as fast or faster.

They should keep their tablet line alive for this alone. Very interesting. Crazy the Samsung is so far ahead of the competition with their version of Android. Seems like a perfectly useable laptop for the majority of users. It's surprising iPad hasn't gone this far yet. Google really should have already done this with stock considering the Chromebook line.
I know this is a long shot but you think this works with the tab s4 (because of the pogo) cause the s4 keyboard needed a a trackpad, great video etaprime 😁
man I cant decide.. Im looking for a tablet mostly to take notes during lectures, reading powerpoints, text marking - university stuff. To use less paper. I was looking for the Surface GO but it gets really expensive when you're adding a pen - as expensive as a Tab S6 right now in my country. In addition I saw the Surface GO on other students desks and it didnt look as smooth as the galaxy tab in your video. Guess Im too used to my +100Hz monitor anyway - do you have experience with the Surface GO and if so, which one would you prefer to take notes on + some entertainment here and there. I think I have to go to a retail store and compare how it feels to take notes etc
Replace? No. But it's been a serviceable alternative to a laptop if you don't have one around since S4. I still believe you should own a laptop. This won't replace it. But during times when you don't want to carry two devices it can serve for a while. I wouldn't use it at home in place of a laptop though. But traveling when I don't want to lug around something heavier, I use my S4 and I'm happy with it.

Hell yeah it can and I'm going to get it to replace my annoying Surface Pro that can't do simple productivity work such as typing and searching without lagging and crashing. I have the 2017 Surface Pro with i5. Also I only use my Surface Pro for Microsoft apps when I can access it anywhere from my phone to other devices such as school desktops without any hassle. Where I can access my apps in Android. Great video about the Tab S6👍👌
i have both surface pro 4 and surface pro 6. none of them have crashes and problems. maybe the device you have has some hardware problems . i would try to reset windows to factory settings. i restored windows 10 to factory when on surface 4 it didnt recognize the type cover keyboard any more. just saying. im also running linux on vmware and windows xp and windows 7 on vmware on both surfaces .

I'm waiting for something like a mix of a Surface laptop (tablet with a stand built in and a nice detachable keyboard) with a Chromebook (something that always works). This is close to that, but i don't know how the tablet is standing by itself 🤔 The only thing missing is the desktop Chrome browser and many years of updates like a Chromebook. Still, pretty nice set up.
I just installed Linux on my Tab S4 and that comes with Chromium and Firefox. I needed a full desktop browser so I could access Salesforce lightning. The Samsung browser is getting better. I can now access full gmail and google drive just using Samsung browser.
Just got this Tuesday. OMG I love it. They keyboard would not stick to the back of the tablet. Some sort of suction. I had to glue it with Gorilla spray glue. Not sure how this passed R and D. Other than that stellar beyond belief.
What you Co spider a power user? Play games? I use Autocad. Amimation. And complex calculations. But the mayority of the time. I VPN to my intranet. Load all my word processor, excel, power point. Note taking and pdf marking. All on my s8 and s10. Plus I connect to a monitor. So its so much easier. Even presentations for my customers. I can only imagine what I can do with that tablet. Turn on developer options for boot to Dex, then after a few quick steps you can launch an experimental Ubuntu Linux distro, downloaded by Dex itself. 😁 Would love a video on it, as having Ubuntu on this tablet as well would be awesome, when they get everything working. 😆 Quick search of Ubuntu Dex on Google should get ya going. 😉
I would love to see a quick review on how the Tab S6 handles Linux on Dex. I'm trying to determine if it would be a usable tablet/workstation for my mobile needs. Emacs / Python3 / Rust / and other command line tools. I don't need a graphical workstation, just something that can be a CLI super star and reasonably fast. My life is in text files, so it doesn't take much, but there really aren't that many Linux tablets out there.
@@dewaynecushman2120 Yeah I didn't think they'd even have Linux tablets. The best bet, I believe, for a Linux tablet is installing it on any Surface Pro 3 or higher. I have Ubuntu dual booted on my Pro 3 and it works really well, as old as it is.

So you don't recommend the tab s6 as laptop, right?
The Tab S6 is priced in line with high end Chromebooks. How do you think it compares to, say, Samsung's own Chromebooks, or to Acer's Chromebook Spin range? How does it do for both day-to-day or student tasks, and for gaming? I game on my Chromebook Spin 13, a bit. Mostly emulation, I've also been playing the GTA games on it, and they run okay. Minor performance issues, sometimes, but usually perfectly fine.
Do you have a HDR monitor? I know YT showed the HDR option because the Tab S6 has it but this would imply Samsung is merely mirroring a second screen over HDMI instead of actually outputting to a monitor cause in that case there'd be a CEC exchange which would notify the device that the monitor lacks support for HDR. Or maybe it's just the YT app.
Other than battery duration and games what made you choose this over a Surface Pro or Surface Go? They're much slimmer and lighter than average laptops and about the same as a Tab S6. I appreciate those are two compelling reasons though. Thanks in advance.
Would you recommend the 8GB variant over the 6GB variant? I'm thinking of getting it to do some work on the go, which would probably range from using Word + Powerpoint or excel, probably with a web browser open... that kinda thing. or rather, what kind of usage do you think warrants getting the 8GB variant?
Between Samsung S6 and Surface Go 2,which one would be better? I would be a light user who will be using the device for taking online coaching and taking notes at the same time. Any suggestions?
@@seulgiii.5346 your printer has to be Wi-Fi enabled, make sure it's connected to your home internet... your tablet and phone (assuming it's also connected to the same wifi) will recognize your printer

so for some reason when I click the app drawer in Dex 98% of my apps are greyed out. I can still click on them and they work fine but they're greyed out making it a lot more difficult to pick them out quickly. how can I fix this issue? when I last used Dex 4 months ago I didn't have this problem. I'm using an S10 plus with a USB C hub adapter
I only use my laptop (which just died) for word, power point and excel also checking emails. Could I consider this a viable option opposed to a laptop?
If you using the powerpoint can you make the external monitor as a secondary monitor? So what you see in the tablet is different from the external monitor.

With all the hw upgrades of these Android devices , Samsung dex sounds like a good idea albeit , wish there were more apps built for tablet mode and desktop mode.
@@ks5831 the biggest pain I found with Linux on Dex was missing ARM packages for some applications I tried to install. When comparing a VNC alternative, the framerate was pretty solid on LoD (30fps would be my guess). It passed my basic RUclips test, that generally gets choppy when a VNC connection or server is bad.
How did you do to write? When the Tab S6 is connected to the monitor, can the keyboard book cover be used as the dex keyboard? If so, what about the tablet, is it unable to use the keyboard?
i think something that my be interesting would be a laptop completely powered by samsung dex. basically a tab s6 but with a keyboaed permanently attached and more ports.
Dex is for portability, I think the aim of dex if for primary portable devices like the phone to replace the laptop in the future. There are dex docking stations with extra ports, much like the switch. With a smart TV in the office, hotels etc smart phones need to take advantage of this. Huawei version of the desktop is great too

Can you make a video and show if web designers can use it for web designing. Like creating website using wordpress, using photo editing software, vector app for creating logos... Plz if you can make a video on it...
First of all, it's Adobe Premiere Rush. Calling it "Adobe Rush" made it harder to find. Secondly, it will not appear on the play store for devices which are deemed not compatible or available. (It has to be a phone, not a wifi device I'm guessing because Google Pixel is listed as a compatible device which I no longer have but a Pixel 3a is not compatible but does not have a SIM or phone number associated with it. I have my suspicions but cannot confirm just now.)
Well, as far as I know, currently the update policy from Samsung is maximum 2 years of major software updates. So probably will be the same for this Tab s6.

Did you peel the cover off of the suction sticky part? It took me 2 days to figure it out.
It had a film over it.

The only thing that I dislike about Dex is the fixed taskbar and the bar at the top of the windows could hide too, just showing when I move the mouse.

I know YT showed the HDR option because the Tab S6 has it but this would imply Samsung is merely mirroring a second screen over HDMI instead of actually outputting to a monitor cause in that case there'd be a CEC exchange which would notify the device that the monitor lacks support for HDR.
Or maybe it's just the YT app.
Other than battery duration and games what made you choose this over a Surface Pro or Surface Go? They're much slimmer and lighter than average laptops and about the same as a Tab S6. I appreciate those are two compelling reasons though. Thanks in advance.

@@seulgiii.5346 your printer has to be Wi-Fi enabled, make sure it's connected to your home internet... your tablet and phone (assuming it's also connected to the same wifi) will recognize your printer

so for some reason when I click the app drawer in Dex 98% of my apps are greyed out. I can still click on them and they work fine but they're greyed out making it a lot more difficult to pick them out quickly. how can I fix this issue? when I last used Dex 4 months ago I didn't have this problem. With all the hw upgrades of these Android devices , Samsung dex sounds like a good idea albeit , wish there were more apps built for tablet mode and desktop mode.
You should have a look at Linux on Dex.
I think Samsung shelved Linux on Dex in lieu of PC on Dex. I truly hope I'm wrong.
@@ks5831 the biggest pain I found with Linux on Dex was missing ARM packages for some applications I tried to install. When comparing a VNC alternative, the framerate was pretty solid on LoD (30fps would be my guess). It passed my basic RUclips test, that generally gets choppy when a VNC connection or server is bad.

i think something that my be interesting would be a laptop completely powered by samsung dex. basically a tab s6 but with a keyboaed permanently attached and more ports.
Dex is for portability, I think the aim of dex if for primary portable devices like the phone to replace the laptop in the future. There are dex docking stations with extra ports, much like the switch. With a smart TV in the office, hotels etc smart phones need to take advantage of this. Huawei version of the desktop is great too
@@triggahappyyt5420 laptops are made for portability as well, and having something you can actually use on your lap with no dock needed for ports would be more useful to some people
i think people use tablets to do some work. then after work a lot of media consumption, where permanently attached keyboad is a problem.
@@tomswan3401 i for example prefer laptops for media comsumption because they stand on their own. some tablets do that too with a case or kickstand but on something like a bed a laptop wont fall over while a Tablet could

Yes it does. You can use the Spen as a remote for slide shows. The note 9 upwards are capable too with the Spen.
But can it do the presentation mode like the dekstop version? Wherein you can view your notes on each slide.

First of all, it's Adobe Premiere Rush. Calling it "Adobe Rush" made it harder to find. Secondly, it will not appear on the play store for devices which are deemed not compatible or available. (It has to be a phone, not a wifi device I'm guessing because Google Pixel is listed as a compatible device which I no longer have but a Pixel 3a is not compatible but does not have a SIM or phone number associated with it. I have my suspicions but cannot confirm just now.)

Well, as far as I know, currently the update policy from Samsung is maximum 2 years of major software updates. So probably will be the same for this Tab s6.
