- Watch in wonderment as Grotbags transforms her grotto to look like the Pink Windmill in the hope of taking some hostages. Will the kids be fooled? Actually, yes. We're treated to two songs in this episode: the Pink Windmill Kids give us a rendition of Can You Feel It by The Jacksons, while Grotbags herself sings Gimme Dat Ding (a.k.a. Give Me That Thing) by The Pipkins. For someone so green, she can't half hit a great blue note.
I previously labelled this as the third episode in the series, but now believe it to be the second, originally broadcast on Wednesday, 14th September, 1983.
Many thanks to Louise for lending me this tape.
(Please remember that this is an old VHS recording, so don't go expecting 1080p HD quality. I'm fairly certain that this video isn't commercially available, and I've uploaded it for its historic interest only. That said, if you are a copyright holder and object, please don't hesitate to contact me.)
The 80s were the best years. Life was real. Happy. Would love to be back at primary school.
Asif Moghul I miss them days too ..... would come home from junior school and mum used to make us chips with tomato sauce and a cup of tea and i would watch this ....I would be so happy .... kids these days are so serious and spoiled too 😒
@@wahidkhaliq4776 I am watching this show but I’m a kid :) it’s better than most things on tv in my opinion
@@spencersfanpage aww. Bless yah ... enjoy it , kids tv in the 80’s in uk 🇬🇧 was brilliant 😘 you might want to look for Wurtzel Gummidge the original version .... it was amazing 😉
@@wahidkhaliq4776 ok!
I miss those days!
My mum saw me watching this video and told me (NO JOKE) that she lived up the road from me. She died last year and her house is still there. I knew her! She used to walk around the village with a big basket :). I'm seriously not kidding.
I've heard Carol Lee Scott (the lady who played Grotbags) was a bit of a local celebrity. Very sad news when she passed away.
VideotapeFTW Yes.
My childhood memories loved it. Then social media came along and ruined everything!!! Our kids will never understand our days. There’s somebody at the door there’s somebody at the door ....
This was made the year I was born, but I remember watching this show as a toddler. I was petrified of Grot Bags lol
Same 😂
They certainly don't make them like they used to. Oh how I miss the 80s!
You and me both. :-)
80s shows= great acting and funny characters
Modern shows= not bad and still pretty good acting but too much cgi
God this episode was bloody iconic. Makes me want to go back to 1983 just to authentically rewatch the show on a CRT telly...
Grotbags was a legend
RIP Carol Lee Scott.
"I'll get that emu"!!!!
Good old Grotbags...she was a big part of a lot of our early childhoods...a good part
This and Teddy Ruxpin and I’m right back in the 80s as a kid again.
Is this the first instance of the long long running gag of rod dressing up in a bad disguise to fool Grotbags?
Ooh, good question - I think it is, unless one it happens in one of the four episodes we don't have yet from the very first series.
Croc was always my favourite character. The noises he would make when Grotbags hit him were genuinely funny.
Matt Leuty you meanie 😠😝
"That streaky bonehead." Haha, great telly from my childhood.
Rest easy Grotbags.
There's somebody at the door 🚪 😁
Love Grotbags. ❤
Great 80s children entertainment after school. Thank you. Rip
You're welcome!
I used to be genuinely terrified of Grotbags and the crocodile. Seems quite ridiculous now, given how camp it all is. But whenever there was "somebody at the door" I'd get really on edge, hoping they wouldn't go near the door!
You're not the first person to say that! It was all good fun though, wasn't it? :-) They certainly don't make 'em like this any more...
Lee Bee I still find it scary lol
This was quality kids programming still looks fab now a sad loss rip Carol
R.I.P Grot bags you made my childhood great ❤🌹🌹🌹😢
Nostalgia at its finest! I loved the 80s x
Wow I loved this show so many lovely memories!!! 💖💖💖😍😍😍
The best kids TV was definitely made in the 80s.
Those kids are so 80s happy
This song seems suited for grotbags ,she song this song really well. RiP to a talented woman.
“We’re not supposed to like children!” Nauseous: 😢
I got hit on the head by Grotbags by accident at Pontins in Prestatyn back in 1987 when I was six. During the Crocodile March. We were crossing over the dance floor and i felt this almighty whack across the side of my head. I just recovered in time and realised that it was her wand that smacked me. She frightened the living daylights out of me as a child. She reminded me of one of my junior school teachers...... she was a big fat witch too. Or at least..... something that rhymes with witch.
Did you get to see the actual Emu live show, then? There's basically no info about it at all out there...
@@VideotapeFTW No. She was just there for some reason that I didn’t know about. Maybe they were recording it there ? But I never saw Rod Hull and Emu there. Only Grotbags and Croc from what I can remember. No Redford.
Gotbags is a legend.
Grot bags was hilarious 😂... she had a big heart really doubt if she would harm a fly so as a kid I wasn’t offended by her 😘
This season's cast was:
Catrina, Hugh, Sarah, Emma, Joe, Spencer, Lorraine, Anthony, Debbie, Emmah-Louise, Aysha, Debs, Kate, Natalie, Natalie, Joanna , Hope, Dean, Cliff, and two girls that wore purple jumpers that I can't name.
Do you know for certain which one's Cliff?
Cliff is well, the other boy whose name isn't mentioned on this list. I'm convinced he wasn't in the previous series and stayed on until before the Easter Special. I've been informed that the taller of the two "purple jumper girls" is named Zara, and that both of the girls in the jumpers were not carried over to the next series. Someone should really make a list of all these kids someday! :-)
love it when croc says Ouch when grotbags wallops him lol
Greatest pantomime villain ever!
CLASSIC 80's R.I.P CAROL LOVE YOU. XXXXXXX
Wonderful memories xx
how grotbags was allowed on children's tv I will never know. I had nightmares on a regular basis as a kid from this show, as im sure alot of other 35 year olds!
Ben Richards The perfect pantomime villain was old Grotbags - scary, angry, nasty, selfish, but also funny. :-)
VideotapeFTW and the star of many a knightmare!
Ben Richards yep, i had lots of grotbags related nightmares. one I vividly remember was that I was in a big circular room with that cauldron in the middle then this loud heartbeat noise started and grotbags arrived in a lift and started chasing me round and round the room
The Channel Fadge ha. Mine was walking into my parents empty bedroom. as I was in, the door closed, and behind the door was grotbags! Scared the shit out of me everytime!
Ben Richards Same, Grotbags was bang out of order man.
You're very welcome - it's my goal to bring Rod and Emu back to the masses! (Thanks to Louise, of course, for lending me the tape in this case.)
17:25 Catrina's back at it again with the CRAZY EYES
Geoffrey Fois r.i.p
it's not only catrina... emma louise (the girl in front of anthony) did those crazy eyes too!
You're welcome, as always. I'm glad people are enjoying these!
croc..grotbags...emu...... u cantget better tv in the 80s...
Very much 80s kids' TV in a nutshell, really. :-)
Grotbags Got The Kids and Rod and Emu Gonna Save Them
14:20 Idk why this part made me laugh so hard
RIP Grotbags, you'll be sadly missed :-(
This takes me back brilliant 👍
RIP Grotbags
Ciaran Doidge grotty you is
18:20 this is my favorite part of the song
Of course, everything is better with catrina
@@mubadubelubyn oh hi maddy! i’m happy to see you in the pwk videos comment section again. and yeah you’re really right 💖
"Rotten old bag of cold chips"
Can you imagine the PC brigrade now, going mad at kids being called "brats" on tv?! There would be complaints out the arse!!
hard to believe this aired on the same channel that currently airs jeremy kyle!!
Well when you put it like that it becomes obvious just how far ITV has fallen...!
@@VideotapeFTW i wonder if any of the pwks have watched the jeremy kyle show...
+Lyric Rogers Oh, it's one of those shows which I'm sure near enough everyone's _seen_ - but more to the point I hope beyond hope that none of them have actually been _on_ it! (Croc's the most likely candidate, thinking about it. "I give her all my care and attention, but she just wallops me...")
@@VideotapeFTW maybe Helen, Zara, and Julie would argue about who got the shortest solo ahahah
+Lyric Rogers Or a traumatised Joe: "Every time I start dancing, suddenly there are girls _everywhere._ I can't stand it any more!"
Why does Rod Hull remind me of Bob Grant from On The Buses? Never realised it before.
I seem to be the only person here who was scared of Grotbags when I was a kid 😂
I remember being annoyed by that doorbell things sneeze
Well, I'm still looking through the pile of tapes I've been lent, and I'm afraid you may be out of luck with those two particular episodes. But there are loads still to come, so stay tuned.
Great memories. 🙂
RIP Carol.... another part of my childhood gone :( xxx
This is truly amazing.. Thanks for the upload.
r.I.p carol a.k.a Grotbags :( you were superb as the witch thanks for the laughs !
Love Grotbags disturbing collection of heads.
those were the days
That croc has the same voice as Pauline from The League of Gentlemen.
I was just thinking the croc sounds like Tubbs!
There's someone at the door there's someone at the door there's someone at the door
Best green painted women on TV- the great Grotbags.
brings back good memories
Rip grotbags
I loved this as a kid miss green grotbagsx
she scared the hell out of me as a child! so did tea bag! that show was the devil
Lol why
RIP Grotbags!
Blimey, Grotbags wouldn't be able to whack Croc over the head like that nowadays.
I remember they even changed the rules of Mallet's Mallet on Wac-a-day so children wouldn't emulate hitting each other over the head.
Not only would the TV watchdogs ban it, but I imagine Grotbags herself would be hauled before a tribunal. A clear case of bullying in the workplace! Not to mention the Health and Safety nightmare that is her grotto... ;-)
Who's watching it in 2022
Ah the memories.
The sheep's in the background : 😐😑😑😐😑
❤❤❤ loved rod hull and emu hated the witch 😂😂😂😂
How camp was Croc?!
Not as camp as Redford.
This is the best episode I've seen.
I turned 5 in November 1983
Brilliant....and my new Haloween costume sorted!
Yes .Of Course. I was only ably to post the Dance Routines which I had previously Taped. Would love to see some of those within a complete episode. Particularly the Working Nine to Five one and Yankee Doodle.
Where ever this episode was sourced from it's in good quality nick
Turns out VHS is better than most people remember. :-)
When I was small, I loved watching Disney shows on VHS. I remember loving Lilo and Stitch so much 😍
Grotbags used to scare the hell out of me as a kid! 😮
very cute and great dancers!!!
I would love to bring back Emu on tv but my hand is stuck up its arse.
i keep watching this because its soo funny and i juist loooove itx
This episode proves how corrupt Unions can be... and therefore how their dodgy work can actually be helpful at the same time.
Unionisation FTW!
Are you cooking the breakfast this morning?
www.what.com lol long before internet days. Quality disguise by Rod
35 years ago!
very true it'd be disallowed now on tv that sort of walloping lol
My uncle nicknamed my mother from grotbags lol
Gruntilda!
Now *there's* a thought no-one wanted in their head!
can't wait for mooooore
He'd certainly have a strong case for bullying in the workplace...
RIP Carol Lee Scott. I think the highest credit that can be paid your life and career is that you truly scared the shit out of kids and were pure fucking evil.
Didn't realise before but grotbags has got big fun bags 😁
How come this show wasn't on ABC,CBS, or NBC?
Probably because it was a British show. Though I seem to remember a decent amount of Canadian and British programming on American TV when i was growing up but, sadly, it appearss this didn't make the cut :-(
Thanks for the memories! but I think this was later than 83? maybe I'm wrong though.
You're very welcome! The copyright on the end says 1983, but you may be remembering a repeat from two or three years later. The show ran from 1982-89.
VideotapeFTW well done for putting this on and putting a smile on everyone’s face 😘
I wonder if Croc and Grotbags were inspired by Punch and Judy...?
I've often wondered that, about Croc in particular. On balance, though, I think Rod wanted another animal native to Australia (like Emu).
VideotapeFTW
Yes, but with a British accent?
That's a good point, actually...
Making sense obviously wasn't too high on their priority list, was it? :-)
we are gonna catch a emuuuuuuu hAAHAHAHAHHAHA
I think I know where Gruntilda and Klungo came from now...
Not sure whether you're joking, but someone at Rare later admitted that Gruntilda was indeed based on Grotbags as a sort of in-joke. :-)
Such a waste her playing Grotbags. She was a great singer and entertainer. She should have been a big star.
She loved playing the part and gave it her the chance to do work in theatre and the caberet circuit when not filming this. She did what she loved doing, fame isn't everything
They need this sort of thing nowadays. Its all violence now
Hi my name's Catrina.
Emu in itv emu world emu pink windowmil and emu tv they are all on childrens itv
