I think you should qualify the race legal thing. If you want to podium or win prize money at a USATF sanctioned race, then you can't get away with wearing either of those shoes. If you're not an elite runner absolutely no one will care. You'll still get a finisher's medal. Your time will still be recorded. There will not be any repercussions (not will anyone even notice) if you're wearing a shoe with an "illegal" amount of stack.
Well said!!! Saw many "illegal" race shoes at the NYC marathon on non-elites. Nobody cared...
Yup -- this would be a shoe I'd race in but don't care that it isn't "legal"...since I'm far from elite.
To be fair I've heard them say exactly that several times on the podcasts.. I guess trying to explain would take a decent chunk of the 120secs

How would the Zoom Fly5 and Boston 11 compare in this mix?
The ZF5 feels heavier, stiffer and really 'clunky' compared to the SC Trainer. They have a similar lockdown feel though. I can't compare the Boston.
I can’t justify spending $220 for a non carbon plated shoe. Also $220 for a shoe you have to break in! I’ll stick with the Novablast 3 which can do everything.
I totally agree with you it’s hard to spend $220 on a trainer. I will purchase the Endorphin speed 3
The shoe will have discounts, just like Novablast, who also isn't worth 150$ (and I love the shoe). But to me, the price shouldn't be based on if it's plated or not, but if it's a shoe that does something for you that no other shoe does. Using plates all the time isn't good for your feet, and a carbon plate doesn't make a shoe instantly better specially for training purposes.
I mean, it seems to me that if we take a good but overpriced shoe, and we throw a plate in there, then it's okay.
@@vicius23 The price is outrageous. About every shoe around this price has a plate to justify the cost. A training shoe shouldn’t cost $220. If I’m going to spend that amount of money, it will be a racing shoe with a plate, not a trainer. Makes no sense.
Asics guy here for decades. This looks like a giant money grab from Asics. Nothing is new on this shoe, except the stack height. They have taken existing foams and made a bigger stack height Novablast 3. Very disappointing.
@@davidlynch9049 Well, that can be said of almost any other shoe. Adios Pro 3? They grabbed Energy rods, less drop and wider base. And they ask for more retail price. Alphafly 2? Air Pods, same ZoomX foam, etc.
Matt, can the SC Trainer handle long runs? or does it feel unstable for long efforts?
It can handle very long runs. It is a touch heavy on foot but with training that’s no an issue. Just make sure you have strong, solid hips due to the big stack height.
It's been my dedicated long run shoe. Taken it to 2hrs multiple times (~15mi for me) with no extra pain than expected after such a long run.

For me in the long run, the Superblast wins. 200 miles, still going strong.

How bouncy is the Superblast relative to Metaspeed Edge+ or Novablast 3?
