- Danish submarine builder Peter Madsen, who murdered the Swedish journalist Kim Wall, has been caught after trying to escape from jail.
Pictures from the scene showed armed police surrounding him near the prison west of Copenhagen.
Police said Madsen had got out after threatening a prison employee and was arrested nearby a few minutes later.
He was jailed for life for the 2017 murder of Kim Wall, who had boarded his homemade submarine for an interview.
Her mutilated body was discovered on a beach by a passer-by 11 days later.
News of Madsen's escape was confirmed when a video emerged showing the convicted killer propped up against a hedge with a belt around his waist, on a residential street close to the jail in Albertslund.
Madsen clearly had an object around his waist and armed police waited at a distance for bomb disposal specialists to arrive before he was taken into custody.

Being trapped underwater in a submarine with a psychopath killer sound like something out of a horror movie. It must have been terrible for the family of the Swedish journalist.
I remember hearing about this Case at the time and it sounded horrendous. She was mutilated and then chopped up by him inside that tiny submarine. He is clearly a very dangerous guy. He should be kept in a Hannibal lector type dungeon.
@@gra-emed3617 Clearly putting people in "a Hannibal Lecter type dungeon" is not something people in Scandinavia see as a very humane prison system. (Not that I think you are completely serious about this). Gruesome crimes is not undone nor prevented from happening again by turning to gruesome punishment. If "normal" people had their will, there would still be public hangings and torture. It's interesting to see all the tendencies of sadism people think is justified if someone have done something very sadistic and cruel. The more I think of the world, the less hopeful I become of the future of humanity. (This was not meant as an attack on you, but merely as a point in general of people).
@UCLJkgiWA7zg7Kbg586ITdYg There's a series about this already? I guess in the style of "Nordic Noir". I can't watch stuff like that, having a lot of anxiety and being over-sensitive I rather choose nature-documentaries and children's animations and cartoons. It does disturb me a bit how popular these shows seem to be becoming. I probably sound prudish, but I don't like that there's so much violence and sex on entertainment. It also, to be honest, seem disrespectful toward the family of the victim, if they haven't asked for permission that is. :(

Incredible story. I just finished watching the documentary on Netflix and surprised/not surprised to see he tried to escape. He is pure evil, total 100% psychopath.
I watched it yesterday. Seeing all the conversations he had with people close to him, it's quite eerie how you can just take that kind of talk for something that's quite often considered as dark humor, especially the last scene where he was talking about human predators etc.
The closing scene in the Netflix documentary is fuckin' scary. The guy was talking about himself 🤯
Me too!
Yes I saw it too - superb film - chilling. It seems they lost trust in him at a very early stage though it is not clear how open they were with the police. I also saw the Danish series The Investigation - 6 parts. That is a must see - recovering those body parts was a monumental task for the divers and it seems without evidence from his hard drive searches they could not have proven a motive. Credit to the police - they were utterly determined to nail him.
I bet he has killed more people in previous years. You don't just kick off a murderous career in midlife.
His escape attempt wasn't very good was it. A bit SUB standard I would say

That's still MAD, son!

Madsen achieved the first part by conning tower. The prison guard up there was completely out of his depth.
What's crazy is that I used to be in this personal submersible builder's group about 20 years ago and he was one of the other members in the group. I had correspondence with him several times when I was about 20 years old. So seeing all this is just... mind blowing. He'd just built "Freya" back then and we were discussing it's dive lock procedures.
Amazing. I'm just learning the story now.
I didn't know him but I was a "fan" of his work as such.

He's just Danish.
Peter Madsen once gave me a guest card to the adjacent yacht club near his submarine I subsequently showered there the rest of that summer. I was ostensibly his neighbour since I was stealth camping nearby his sub. We had a few NASA technology based conversations. You know he gave no red flags indicating his homicidal potential. He just seemed a bit eccentric.
How exactly excentric? He talked too little? Too much? He stutter? Laughed to himself? Made corny jokes? Racist jokes? Never looked in the eyes? Always looked in the eyes? Did he used inappropriate attire? Did he talked to you in underpants?
Just interest in his (Peter Madsen) psychological profile.
@@fischergriess6321 On "Discovery + " - here in Denmark there is an audio conversation between a psychiatrist (Henrik Day Poulsen) and the journalist who had more than 20 hours of conversations with PM in jail. It's named " Secret Recordings with Peter Madsen". I don't know if is available with subtitles in other countries? PM here admits a few things we didn't know before. First, he did admit he did the murder as bbc tels. Second, he said Kim Wall asked some questions that went deep and triggered his soft spots and he went out of control. He actually said Kim Wall nearly killed them both by asking those questions, but she was the only one who ended up dead!! As other psychopaths do, PM blamed KW for making him 'go off like a bomb' which got him to do what he did, which also is a lie because he planned everything carefully and then tried to get 2-3 different girls on board before KW who all said no. The psychiatrist explains about PM psychopathic personality. PM also told some details about how he discovered KW was actually dyeing/dead. Most of the many hours of telephone conversation with the journalist PM was just talking eccentric and arrogantly about himself dominating the conversation.

Denmark prisons are more like day spas, called open prisons, inmates wear their own clothes and cook their own meals. I imagine its a little stiffer for lifers. However the fact he was able to get out using what amounts to a carved gun is testament to the ridiculous easy lives to which criminals are treated.
he should be in a maximum security prison - the police did amazing work to get him convicted - would be a waste to have him escape. Though I expect that will not be happening again - or any affairs with female prison guards.

Escaping from prison is not illegal in Denmark. If you get recaptured after an escape, all that happens is that you go back to prison to continue serving your original sentence.

How does someone who's not only evil but also obviously quite bad at planing and execution of such plans become rich enough to play with own submarines?
He made a Kickstarter campaign for the sub
Technically he was bankrupt after accidentally destroying a sub he had already sold. The sub and other stuff at RML ltd. was technically owned by various fan groups.

Wow them prison guards are real gullible
Why does this newsreader look like he's smiling as he reads this story?
Is he evil or something?
How do the Danish police get so close up to him to pull him out of a van, then handcuff him and still be scared that he may have a bomb belt to then decide to send in a robot bomb destroyer? How will he detonate the bomb when his hands are tied behind him?
Theres being cautious and then being stupid and they chose to be stupid.
@Halima Umar Isa his hands were tied, the police would have noticed anything like a trigger button in his hands, only other way is by a voice recognition to set it off the bomb on his belt and his has been in prison where is he gonna get that kind of technology from to build that?
@Halima Umar Isa in prison, how many people have you read that can get bombs in prison?
I think they can get components in by drone nowadays.
@Halima Umar Isa in the reporting it said he told the prison guard that he had a bomb and the guard drove him out of the gates and then he went tried to jump into a white van and thats when the police caught him.
So the police would have been made aware of what he said to the prison guard, and if they knew that then the police should not have gotten that close to him to be able to put the cuffs on. Which means they were not that afraid of him denatoting that bomb and possibly not believing him sunce he been in prison and could not have made a live working bomb from inside a prison. So they were just taking being cautious.
@@r.h.8754 we ALL know that story bogus. You tell me how a man handcuffed behind him, manage to pull out a gun and shoot an officer in the chest and then shoot his own leg? The man was searched twice before, once outside and then again inside.
