+mychal janovski Howdy. I am very happy that you are enjoying the videos. At the moment I have two blackfires in my collection. An, "A," and a low, "E." I would be love to make a video comparing the two. I should be able to get one made in the next week. I also have a link to website that has sound samples of them and other harps in different tunings. Thanks again for watching and if you have any more questions or requests, let me know in the comments. Happy harpin'

I have this one and love it, but I'm curious about the harmonic content. I haven't had a chance to explore in depth, but most of its upper register seems to contain overtones distantly related to the fundamental "A" making it difficult to play melodic tunes. Any thoughts on this?
The Pavel Potkin by contrast gives clear emphasis to the normal series 1, 2, 3, 5, slightly flat 7, 8, 9, etc
It's an amazing instrument! Tons of strange sounds to explore.
Love your videos too by the way

Howdy. I would start by saying you are far more musically trained than I. This is an older video before I had any idea of melodic content. I would say the blackfire are great rhythmic instruments, but are too saturated to have good clean melodics. Some of the potkin can be melodic but many of them are a bit fuzzy in sound, but still great starter harps. For good clean melodic content I would suggest Babayev, Dernovoi, Schipanov, Tartar standard, many of the Munnharpe varieties, Estonian Parmupil, and many more out there. Thank you so much for your well informed comments. 🙂

Have you checked out Monday Night No Sleep Train? Also hit me up at heart of days. We'll have to have some jaw harp jiggery over a beer.

I'm new to jaw harps, and know nothing about music. Which key should I buy and in low or high? I just wanna play my favourite movie scores, like For a Few Dollars More, or this: ruclips.net/video/Lyvd7pnddhs/видео.html (skip to 1.15 min for harp)

      I would stick to the midrange. E, D, A, G

Bebbcorp Harpery Thanks for replying so quickly! Out of the four you listed, please tell me which one. I really am quite ignorant on this subject- forgive me.

M H I am going to guess , “D.” It will go with a wide variety of music and it sounds great as a stand-alone harp. If you are in the US I have a masko in my store that is a D midrange and a g1 bass. It would give you two options with a magnetic ball to change the tuning. It is professional grade and super nice.
