  • Today we're going to replace the hose in this CH (Campbell Hausfeld) air hose reel. Long story short, it rubbed on the belt of the air compressor and now it leaks like crazy! Rather than throwing it out, let's take it apart and replace the hose. It's really not that bad!

Thank you for doing the dirty work. I have 'virtually' the same unit but was nervous about taking apart. My hose is brittle, and needs to be replaced. Unit is still okay. New costs about $120. Probably replace hose w/ better quality hose for cheaper. Again, thanks for exposing how to do this operation! Much appreciated.

Happy to help! And I agree, for the price I'd rather just replace the hose. Good news: it has been a couple years and it is still working perfectly!

Thanks for this! Do you think it would be possible to replace the airhose reel with SO or SJ cord? Thinking of taking mine apart and putting in 60feet of 10AWG for a welder but im not sure if it would be able to handle the weight of the cord

That is a good question. That 10 gauge wire is going to be heavy, and this housing isn't very stout. Hmmm.... I think it might be too much for it. The mounts are only in plastic, and I could see signs of wear from just holding the air hose. It would be a shame to do all that work and have it fall right off the wall! haha If you end up trying, be sure to let us know how it goes! Thanks for watching!

I have the exact same model mine comes out all right and it goes in all right but it won’t stay in place I’ve tried many times to try and lock it to a certain length but it seems like all it ever wants to do is retract,,,I don’t know???

Well, that kind-of defeats the purpose! I've never taken the locking mechanism apart, but I would imagine there is some sort of spring loaded latch in there which must be broken, misaligned, or missing the spring.

It feels weird, but pull it out just 1 click and try to see if it stays, then 1 more click and try.
Repeat this until you'll likely find that there are longer gaps between 2 or 3 retract clicks...those gaps are where it will stay locked at.
