There’s a lot of criticism thrown at this movie, but in the end it’s a beautiful story of a man broken by war who is rehabilitated and healed. Excellent performances by Will Smith and Matt Damon.

In August of 1969 I was in Basic combat training at Ft. Biss in Texas.
We were having "Record" fire at the rifle range. There was over a 1000 men shooting that day. We were shooting for our rifleman medals that day.
When I went on line to shoot my 100 rounds of 7.62 x 51 using an M14 rifle.
I felt just like this. I was in the groove and I was one with my weapon and the range.
Everything dropped away. There was just the sun, the sand and the targets popping up down range. I began firing. It was amazing. The targets came up, my rifle fired. Again & again for 100 shots.
Everything else just faded out. I was one with the rifle. The soldier doing my scoring was extremely excited.
I was aware of him, but paid no attention to his words. I was too busy shooting.
When I was done, I had only missed one shot. I scored Expert. But that was not all. It turned out that I had the best score in the entire battalion. It was a magical afternoon for me. I was just 17 years old.
I'd never felt so good in my life.
    I still remember that day.

That's a coincidence. Because you see, the movie above is inspired by Krishna and Arjuna.
Arjuna was a prince involved in a civil war against his paternal cousins. But he was disturbed by the idea of having to potentially kill his own family.
Krishna, a wise king and Arjuna's maternal cousin, was an ally - he chose however, to not actively fight in the war, instead to act as a guide and strategist.
To allay Arjuna's doubts, Krishna advised him on the validity of the war - his advises would be compiled later into the holy book called the Bhagavath Gita (The Song of Divine Wisdom).
I call this a coincidence, because Arjuna, a warrior whose preferred technique was archery, is more closer to you, a soldier with a rifle, than to a golfer.
But while there was no Krishna present by your side in person, he was there in your heart. Like Gods always are - and those moments when we establish a link to them, are the times when we are at our best selves.

The best round I ever played was when I only concentrated on how the swing felt and tried to swing the club in a full proper circle to a musical rhythm. I truly had no idea of what my score was during the round and told my playing partners not to tell me what it was. Every shot I played I just thought of the circle. Occasionally I can repeat some of that but usually struggle. The feeling comes and goes and it takes a lot of faith to just swing the club especially when the score is good. Just a great film

This scene encapsulates the feeling of golf perfectly. The focus on hitting that ball melds with the beauty of the landscape, the smell of the mist, the feeling of a slight breeze, the sun peering through a tree. All comes into one. It's kind of like a feel, don't think vibe, but it still related well to the game game.

Point is you have to feel your way through Golf, just like life. I have learned so much about myself and about life through the game.
It has touched my life and whether I'm playing good or bad I enjoy every stroke because I know it's a gift, not a privledge.
Truly is the greatest game there is and will ever be. You only have yourself to blame be it good bad or ugly.

I’ve seen the field not just once but twice maybe threes, maybe more..god willing who knows. y’all I have felt it and I have seen the field. I’ve seen people in the field and they don’t return. But those moments, those many moments that I’ve expieranced this, I have been in awe. The world, the competition, my problems disappear but every meaning, birth and journey comes to light. I begin to forget what this world means but only what it was built by..not on. All I wanted was to expierance to peace, mentally. Until I watched this movie and I tried this in a empty roller rink. All by myself and I went into this field mode and I felt free.

Watching it for the third time. Especially after the Open Day at the Semperoper in Dresden watching the ballet training it makes me thinking of how difficult it is to convene a team, either on stage, on the shopfloor or the field. It is the small moves that make the difference when the field is choosing us.

This is one of the first times I think I've ever seen him be so soft spoken and calm in a movie, so used to his louder outgoing funny personality that comes out in films. It's really nice, relaxing

I got to give to the Irish and the Scottish for coming with a game that takes a beast and and tame s the very instinct that drives a man or women to focus and become one with the ball it's so peaceful and calming

The art of talent to where you put all of your trust into your thoughts but the feel is real. The last stance between you & whatever you are seeking so if you can images it then it will prevale & come true. “ The Touch”

@nomorephones The movie was about the Hindu Bhagavadgita, which talks about the destiny of people. Rannulph Junnuh is a play on the name Arjuna, which is the main character in the Gita. Bagger Vance is Krishna, the commonfolk avatar of Vishnu. Bobby Jones was in the path of knowledge, jnana marga, since he was golfing and getting college degrees. Walter Hagen wants kama and artha, pleasure and material success. Junnuh is stuck in the middle, and doesn't find out which path he's in until the end.

This scene is kinda accurate to how it is for me when I play or even just hit balls at the driving range. It's focus, muscle memory and replicating that unique authentic swing that only works for you and no one else. I feel myself blanking everything out the same way, it's just me and the ball, like Bagger says here.

Doreai it’s the same for me. It’s just me, the ball, the pond or the sand pit...

Very true it's the tempo, I find golf relaxing and in tune if you take your time and feel the body. Sometimes you can push and sometimes not, we just need to know when.

It's being in the zone, as with many sports/activities. Meditative and feeling based, not over thought. That's often how it is when I ride a bike.

it’s just you and the field.
just you, that ball and the flag.
    Me, you and the clubs.
it’s just the clubs, the tee, the ball, you, me, the field, and the clubs

Smith and Damon are both really good 'eye actors'. They don't need to talk, we just gotta look at their eyes to see what they are feeling.
