Bro....the whole barbershop theme is probably what pulls a certain crowd. We grew up knowing wisdom, knowledge, and game was associated with barber shops. And when we stop at this barbershop, you guys provide those 3 elements

By far my favorite episode of MEO! Street & earth’s legend Bimmy Antney breaks his street stories down to a relatable, palpable and enthralling ride. The inevitable ups & downs of the game are relived and retold here in the barbershop alongside the industry’s most consistent crew of journalists. Props to yall! MEO gone make it!
The Chinese slippers thing was actually smart. And that he thought of that as an 11 year old. That way he didn't have to spend money on expensive shoes, he wouldn't have to fight, he gets to wear cheap shoes but everyone will respect it because they'll think he does martial arts. It's genius

Smart move especially considering the 70s/80s were the peak of martial arts movies coming out of Hong Kong. So it makes sense. That wave faded once Hollywood tried to get a piece of the action. Then you started seeing karate/jujitsu/bushido films coming out of Japan. Hollywood tried to get a piece of that (TMNT, Van Damm, 3 ninjas, the last samurai). After that the wave shifted to Mui Thai. Again, Hollywood tried to co-opt it as well. (Unleashed, Ung-bak, kickboxer 1:4) taekwondo might be the next one targeted by Hollywood studios.
I digress…
Point being, every cinematic era featured an obsession with (CQC) close quarter combat. Asian martial arts typically maintain highly popular status amongst fans. Hollywood will always try to incorporate martial arts into it’s standardized textbook approach to filmmaking. In the US boxing used to be king. (Professional) Wrestling was popular with the youth, amateur wrestling was popular with student athletes and former athletes.
I truly wasn't ready for the Chinese slippers story! I needed the laugh too!
