Granted there may be a $15k price advantage to the GWM but this is likely to disappear come resale value time. I also find it hard to dismiss that GWM packed up and left Australia last time because they didn't want to honour vehicle warranty obligations, according to my recollection.
GWM's first run in Australia was handled by a third-party distributor, although they didn't 'pack up and leave' there was some downtime as distribution and aftersales support switched over to the factory-backed distribution model they use now. That took place in 2016, so customer support should be much simpler and more open.
This is definitely one of the best reviews between these two cars. The price difference is exclaimed adequately. And the flaws of the GWM are called out. The premium you pay for the Everest can to a certain extent be justified. But it's nice to see how well the Tank stacks up against the Everest.
I think problem was the multiple flaws of the Ford were not mentioned . No justification for rip off proves yet cheap quality fit and finish in the Ford
Then there is that super 3.0 V6 diesel in the Ford which os awesome. To me, there is not even something to consider. Ill pay the $15k premium with a smile😂😂
Wrong. Because the headlights were on and the parking sensors were detecting obstacles due to the terrain, it uses the DRLs to momentarily illuminate the front corner where the obstacle is detected. Lots of vehicles do this.
What you are referring to is fog lights, not daytime running lights which are inside the headlights. If you look at the tank 500 spec sheet, there is feature called "Front fog lamp with steering auto light", so as you steer, that light will light up to the direction you going to, It's very handy at night, normally a luxury car feature, but more cars has it now.
One doesn’t have to buy or like this or any other Chinese car. But the fact is that more choice in the market places pressure on the other established manufacturers to offer us a better value and service for our buck rather than resting on their laurels and upping their prices year on year, ad infinitum. My feeling is that the Tank 500 will offer an entry point to families who always wanted a bigger people-carrier like the Everest / Prado, etc, but could never get close to owning those due to affordability. That’s quite a gap in the market, so well done to them for spotting the gap.
Agree, but saying them as good as the more established brands is just not realistic. their electronics and interior quality might be attractive. But engines and mechanics are still some way to catch up.

There's nothing perium about Everest especially when you're comparing it to The Tank 500. For me Tank 500 is a better option on-road or off-road.
there's no justification for the premium in the Everest.
I think problem was the multiple flaws of the Ford were not mentioned . No justification for rip off proves yet cheap quality fit and finish in the Ford
everest sport is still $81k so hardly a bargain
81K before on roads Im pretty sure
Small touch screen more buttons imo
Tank 500 all day every day for me.
should add new Santa fe in this comparison
Completely different market segment. Santa Fe can go barely go over a pavement.
Shall we add the corolla too?
Make sure it hybrid 😅
Then there is that super 3.0 V6 diesel in the Ford which os awesome. To me, there is not even something to consider. Ill pay the $15k premium with a smile😂😂
Why do you keep saying the same things that are already said?
looks like the Toyota Sequoia!!
The Ford is 10 years behind in both interior and exterior design. Its just ugly tbh
Damn how tall is this guy!
Quite tall but he's white remember so no African size where it matters.
Mitsubishi tank amour bullet proof
Chinese cars are the new South Korean cars. If you know what I mean.
Tank looks like a RAM front end and a old Pajero rear
I don't kove the way thr tank 500 looks from the front. Remember gerard dipardieu.
CHINA vs USA
lol
Tank wins
both Chinese😀
Ford looks so cheap
haha I like how the Tanks lower daytime running lights are already not working
Wrong. Because the headlights were on and the parking sensors were detecting obstacles due to the terrain, it uses the DRLs to momentarily illuminate the front corner where the obstacle is detected. Lots of vehicles do this.
@@stephenstephen5753 ok, not sure how you'd see it though. Chinese novalties
Ncaw! May your unknowledgeable mind be blessed.
@@heyheyguesswhonot a novelty , most modern premium off road vehicle have many of the features found in the tank
Chinese car with a monitoring camera...hmmmm
Don’t put your iPhone in your front pockets, it’s has cameras on both sides 😂
Yes the Chinese really need to find out how you are cheating on your wife
all cars need it for a 5 star safety rating
All new cars have them
whatever the Chinese are making, to be honest they don't last long.
Yes, your mother country's made Vehicle can drive 1 million miles without service, and also overweight drive every day
They give u 8 yr warranty unless they are stupid it would be the fastest way to bankrupt the company.
傻瓜才会这么说
Check when did you last changed your underpants, they are probably made in china too 😂
Check out the Chinese bots in the feedback telling everyone how great the Tank is
Soooo corrupt
What a pathetic comment
GWM 👍👍
American crap metal
Tank offroud + Ford shit
@@bananabear009You are so out-dated. Ford can’t compete in China and eventually will be washed out of the market there like the French and Korean cars, even the Japanese are trying to survive. The best the non Chinese brands including the German are just not good enough in the intense market there.
@@johnjong423 Yeah, Chinese market is really a cut throat market there. Even BMW I3 now sold for RMB170K. Guess all foreign brands will leave eventually, but not because they make worse cars, just not cheap enough, LOL
@@bananabear009the top trim 2.3T petrol Ford Ranger is priced at around 55K AUD in China, way cheaper than Tank 500 there, and way cheaper than what it asking in AU market… not to mention, it has more features than AU market.
@@jeremyyang9895 Yup, very competitive, perhaps even brutal market there
Tank 500 cabin makes the Everest cabin look slightly dated and plasticky. The price diffence is astonishing and if the viral videos of how tough Tanks are are anything to go by it's well worth the savings.
Tank exterior is hideous though.
@@farzana6676 I like the back and the side. I like the headlights. The grill is 😬😬.
Only time will tell how these chinese brands will stand the test of time. Otherwise they offer so much for less compared to the well established brands. Making us feel like we being ripped off cash. Hope other brands learn from this.
Welcome to the world of GWM & China for that matter
I test drove the Everest and the Tank 500 . I bought the Tank Ultra. To say the Everest handles better cornering on the Highway is a joke. Its the very reason I bought the Tank.
Give the Tank bigger Wheels and Tires and it will look like a beast. Inside You will have luxury pure and the electric side steps is next level in this class…
In Chinese market, the standard wheel is 19in and optional 20s, which do look a lot better.
@@hardycui7088 Interesting. Actually a little bit more negative offset would also better for Tank 300 and 500
i like that tank, it would suit people who don't need a tow vehicle
3ton is more than enough unless you it as your workhorse. How many people need to tow a 3.5ton caravan everyday?
If you want a tow vehicle you would buy the cannon alpha Ute with 3500kg towing
Ford looks ugly, compared with Tank
I feel certainly confident to nail that Tank reliability is much better than Ford cars. FORD cars are not well sold in China, the design, quality, etc…
This kid never drove a Land rover if he thinks the ford is awesome off road lol
When it comes to towing capacity you cant beat the everest. The GWM will run out of puff and have a shorter life. Otherwise if you are only doing the odd tow then it seems like a great car. For me it would be the evesrest.
Laughable to compare the two. Ford is out of the league. GWM is a reliable Landrover selling 1/2 price.
LMFAOOOOOO never ever EVER compare that chinese plastic toy to a Land Rover ever again.
Land rovers are hilariously unreliable but even a Land Rover is better than this chinese toy.
@@eriktenhag2022 Do you have enough money to buy tank500?
15k less and just as good, its a win for the Tank 500.. unless you just love the ford badge for 15k
No, i just want a car that will not self destruct after the first few years.
YOU don't even have 80000 dollars for any of one, stop daydreaming
Why do the small LED fog lights keep turning in and off
They are cornering lights and illuminate in the direction of steering for a few seconds at a time to help highlight any obstructions that may be harder to see in the direction of travel.
If U mean the flashing LED lights, or if they seem to blink, it could be just the camera, it happens with every car video mostly.
GWM started making cars in 1984 and is the number 1 car maker in china. Decent enough
is the number 1 car maker in china -- BYD is the No. 1 now
@@liuyangyang Not really. By volume, SAIC is the number one, at home and abroad.
Both better than Toyota
The important thing is engine , tank is new in market its bit early to say tank is great
All the Tank components will be main stream items that they build for others like the front suspension toyota
I like how the Ford is priced at 81k. Where are you buying one that cheap?
As you mentioned the towing capacity it would be great to include a towing comparison of the tow vehicles.
我感觉燃油版的500 3.0 v6 发动机和9at变速箱换挡顿挫感太强了不跟脚
Great review. Also nice seeing a bloke my height fit inside vehicles. I have left GWM off my list in the past, but looks like a few of their products are now on point. Reliability & resale value still worry me a bit, but almost worth a punt now. In 2 or 3 years, easy decision, until the prices go up like Hyundai & Kia. I love the comfort features, others like Ford & Toyota, could learn from this.
Not even a fair contest. The Ford loses😂
I you watch Everest on re driven you will be astounded at all the issues
Ford has self parking. Plus all the safety features tank doesnt have.
gwm haval h6 has autoparking both vertical and parallel.
Okay. Is that why Tank 500 scored higher in ANCAP?
That’s false, the tank 500 scored the highest score on ancap test than any other . They scored 91 when Toyota and fords have never gotten more than 80
Tank 500 has self parking feature and the one I like most is reverse tracking. Its a breeze reversing from long driveways. Just hit the button and the vehicle reverses out itself. I havent seen this feature in any of the premium cars....set aside ford & toyota.
