As an owner of this car, certain parts of the review seem pretty wrong! It's not that stiff. I find the car to be a little too comfortable! Also the body panel gaps are nuts. I don't have that.
Or, he's just pissy that he was this far down the waiting list to drive one and when he go the chance he ended up with a press car that everyone and their cousin had beaten the bag out of? Why's he just now releasing a video of this car? I'm nobody, and I drove the thing last May.
itsonlymusic1 LoL not sure where you are coming from. His points are valid. Those panel gaps - atrocious. The cosmetics of the vehicle - in the eye of the beholder I guess. But it’s not obviously pretty like the original vantage imho. And the driving experience - I trust Matt is being honest. But let’s say this car truly was beat to shit. Hence a reason not to release it to the press in this condition.
The car I drove had tight and even gaps. I don't know what happened to this one? I agree that the old version had a classic almost unbeatable design, but, I like the new more aggressive look. Something had to change after 12yrs of the old style. I had a very different impression of the driving dynamics.
itsonlymusic1 so obviously it’s a personal experience. You clearly had a different one than Matt. You see the panel gaps on this car. It’s not like driving it 10,000 miles does that lol. This one clearly wasn’t the best example, and it so happens it fell in the hands of a reviewer. You can’t discredit his opinion. This is the car they gave him.
His opinions and experience with the car are totally valid, and documented as per the panel fit. Where I lose faith in the review is the claim you echoed that the car is "half baked". That, given the quality of engineers who worked on the car, and the car that I experienced, is a ludicrous statement. I don't doubt Matt's experience but question the severity of the summary. To each their own.
In this past week both one of these and a V8 Vantage from the previous gen have gone past me going the other way, the old gen made me smile more, make of that what you will.
glad you finally got around to this one, I really loved the way this car drove compared to my current, old vantage... not sure why you are complaining about the stiffness of the suspension... its MUCH more comfortable on the road than my sport pack older vantage even on track mode... I think you got a shitty car that needs to be taken to the shop! but dayum man the video doesn't start till 1:45 in
You have lost some weight my friend! Also, I love the more critical reviews. I would personally, through all of the negatives, still love to own something like this. But it really shows objectivity and willingness to do thorough reviews. Very refreshing! Keep them coming.
Wow, what a disappointment? If it was a 370Z NISMO, you wouldn't even drive it the way it sat. Truth. Front bumper NOT attached? WTF. Panel gaps, normally, I laugh- this was unsafe, far beyond a panel gap issue. Yes, I like the look, but, a quick glance from a distance- 370Z... Classic AM lines seem to be missing. Not bad, but 'less' than traditional AM lines (perception of this viewer?) and not the visual perfection of ALL prior cars. Plenty of go (MB motor, ZF 8 speed- nice), but, lacks the distinctive soundtrack Aston is known for... Really disappointed that car was delivered to One Take in that condition. Matt has a love for these cars (as evidenced by prior ownership), so, I sense his "WTF is this?" throughout the entire review. A GT car should be very forgiving on long trips- this isn't. Random beeps, poor fit and finish... handcrafted? Or, slapped together? I'm out, and, I bet Matt is too.
Is that gearbox going to be a pain to drive with in 10 or so years? I drove a paddle-shift Vanquish a few weeks ago and it was just as bad as I thought it would be. To me it seems the car should either have a Dual Clutch or Manual. I think single clutch auto just isn't 'future proofed' enough. Thoughts?
@@simonburkeisable isn't it bad enough that I and other people watch RUclips's adverts and sometimes forced to watch one, and after that there's another advert ? I get the point but if i wanted to see this many adds, I would turn on the TV.
You losing some weight Matt?!? Looking good brother. You can see the definition in your right tricep when you’re steering. Keep up the good work! Long time fan since back when you used to do segments on “attack of the show”.
The wheels are massive! Wow! The looks are classy and sporty. The body panel gaps are understandable. It's a hand made car. Doesn't mean they SHOULD have them, but still, hand made.
I won't argue with that. I really hope AM manages to sort it out and manages to overcome this "crisis of identity" (that's how I see it). I had the same feeling about Lotus, but Lotus has over-passed that and is now making again cars that have that special something.
Finally a respected person that shares a personal yet critical review on this new Vantage: it rides too stiff, stiffer than a 911 with adaptable PASM. I have had the pleasure to own the v12 Vantage 2011 (manual) so same horsepower and but almost 200 kilo more and its suspension was also quite stiff, of course that heavy engine required it for controlled medium high speed driving. I recently drove this new vantage for several hours on a road trip: the new suspension is too stiff indeed to be comfortable. Yet it is sporty and the stiff chassis provides a great ride so you give up some of the comfy GT ride but get a more focused sports car than the DB11, that might explain it. However my McLaren 12C is more comfortable, also nice interior, can drop its roof in 18 secs and is still lighter and a lot faster... but this 2018 Vantage is an early version, they will adapt to the comments and critics so thanks again for highlighting the points that need improvement!
In general, I love Matt's reviews and he is one of my "go to" reviewers. I just picked up a Vantage and he seems spot on. It's definitely a bit stiff, maybe a little too much in sport (basic) mode. Seems like its should be a a little less stiff for a street car. The panel gaps, in places, are strangely large. Luckily, I don't have any of the quirky sensor issues. Overall I love the looks of the car and can forgive all the other sins. I think Matt's reviews are very insightful for somebody who actually wants info on a car and may actually buy one. Too many reviewers seem like they are just focused on what a car is like for a 20 minute joy ride and not focussed on what it is really like to live with a car. Keep up the great work.
Matt, I remember the brake comment, i believe you were talking about the Giulia Q when you did the review in San Fran. Great and honest One Take my dude 🤙
Just about every car's top speed is aero- or drag-limited. It's either that or rev-limited which would be unusual (because in that case making the final gear taller would increase the top speed...in which case it would be drag-limited again).
Superb review with accurate and justified criticisms. I noticed how stiff the ride was on the video. I agree with you that I really don't think this car has been fully developed yet either in terms of drivability or build quality. A V12 manual Vantage would still remain my preference at the moment. Hopefully by the time this one gets a manual gearbox the whole car will be more sorted.
I love it when you tell the truth about build quality and panel gaps and everything else. The truth shall set you free. The older Aston's were much prettier in my eyes. The new ones have an interior which is a haphazard mess, and the exterior with very few exceptions, is much less attractive. The front headlights look a lot like a Miata. That's not a compliment. I love the older V8 Vantage, and of course the DB9, the new ones don't look nearly as good, although I do like the tail lights. The rear diffuser in most colors is garish, and look stacked on. The engine sounds good, but no manual transmission? And Don't lecture me about how the automatic is faster than a manual would be. A manual transmission makes a driver much more one with the machine. No exceptions! From the side profile that is the main picture on the clickbait, it looks super tough with the huge wheels and the tiny Greenhouse. That's its 1 Goodview especially in a dark color. However, the greenhouse looks so small and when you are view driving the car it appears that it is very difficult to see out of, even more so than let's say a late model Camaro which has the same squished Greenhouse. Although, certainly not as mellifluous.
I visited the local Aston Martin dealership a couple days ago and the body tolerances of the 2 Vantages there were a lot smaller than the ones on your car. It's likely you had a press car or maybe a prototype. So is it this or the Portofino? Decisions, Decisions, Decisions!
It's a press car. It's been beat to hell and not just by Matt. Aston Martin is normally spot on when it comes to panel fitment. The things that aren't perfect are usually the stitching of headliner or dash as it's done by hand not machines. Aston Martin is still mostly hand assembled in the interior but now use robots for the exterior. I love Aston Martin vehicles. It is what a grown man, one who wants the power of a super car, strives to buy himself as a reward in life. It's to drive to work in comfort, drive to the cabin in style and comfort, and not worry about lap times.
Unless you were referring to ECU mapping, I think the problem with this being the only application with a manual transmission is, for the most part, mitigated by the gearbox being a trans-axle. There's no issue physically mating the engine to the gearbox. However, on he electronics side, it may be more difficult.
That bong sound is the bonnet open sound isn't it? Given the panel gap to the bonnet on one corner it certainly looks like it isn't latched on one side.
I get the feeling Matt quit smoking pot, he looks more lively and skinnier but also seems extra annoyed with stuff like the warning beeps and janky key.

Eric Jancsovics Thanks for info
Beckett being a sponsor just fits perfectly with smoking tire.
My shoes are sweaty
Actually it is not the shoe that sweats.

Convertible now, plus a manual is coming. Can’t wait to see your review on it
It is what it is, therefore...it is. How profound.
As an owner of this car, certain parts of the review seem pretty wrong! It's not that stiff. I find the car to be a little too comfortable! Also the body panel gaps are nuts. I don't have that.
The back end is great looking. Every other part of the car is visually awkward.
Fugly volvo tail lights.
Great video Matt. Looking good dude. What kind of glasses are you wearing?
It seems that a "Poor" Lotus Evora 400 is far better to ride (Greetings from France, Matt)
I have a 2017 Lotus Evora 400, love the car but I would not mind having the Vantage.
Your reviews on the streets a very enjoyable and informative. I have missed them.
I like it, But I hate it.
Matt all swole !!! Congrats homie either way G all love
This car looks a lot like a really expensive version of the Toyota 86.
Dude i thought i was the only one that noticed that, they look so similar with that weird grill
Don't insult Toyota!!! Haha.
A good honest review from Matt. We appreciate it very much 👍
This sounds like a poorly executed half-baked idea. Aston should not have released this car to the press.
Lovin' the honesty on this One Take Matt!!
So basically roasted all the way but the engine, witch btw is from Mercedes and not from Aston Martin...
In this past week both one of these and a V8 Vantage from the previous gen have gone past me going the other way, the old gen made me smile more, make of that what you will.
still an aston then lol and I thought the gaps on my mclaren were bad
Balkan88 were they that bad? Not heard that before
for sure, plenty of friends/forum members have the same issues, however dealership corrected everything pretty quickly and fine since.
Weird flex but ok!
glad you finally got around to this one, I really loved the way this car drove compared to my current, old vantage... not sure why you are complaining about the stiffness of the suspension... its MUCH more comfortable on the road than my sport pack older vantage even on track mode... I think you got a shitty car that needs to be taken to the shop!
but dayum man the video doesn't start till 1:45 in
10:54 :)
Not at all a 370Z, 370Z is ugly with fenders that are too big and stick out like aftermarket fenders.
I love your videos showing unique cars that people work on themselves. Not a fan of very expensive car reviews.
Video starts at 1:43 thank me later.
Fuck you.
Thoughts?

You are welcome people.
Bristish India engineering at its finest

The wheels are massive! Wow! The looks are classy and sporty. The body panel gaps are understandable. It's a hand made car. Doesn't mean they SHOULD have them, but still, hand made.
please check the sound on your videos before you publish.....
Nothing is wrong with it. I think he knows what he is doing.....
try listing to the shoes ad with headphones on. its painful
So, what's left of Aston to differentiate it from the competition, which has been, for a long time, superior in almost all objective ways?
Mzn T the fact that it says Aston Martin ln it - which is enough for me cos I’m a child at heart
Glad one take is back
Matt, I remember the brake comment, i believe you were talking about the Giulia Q when you did the review in San Fran. Great and honest One Take my dude 🤙
Just about every car's top speed is aero- or drag-limited. It's either that or rev-limited which would be unusual (because in that case making the final gear taller would increase the top speed...in which case it would be drag-limited again).
Great vid as always Matt. Looks like you’ve lost some weight bud, keep up the great work.
Really nice driving. I really enjoyed this video a lot.
Looking good Matt, really enjoyed hearing your opinion on this one. I wish you'd do a video on your manual aston.
Great review and observations on this car.
I visited the local Aston Martin dealership a couple days ago and the body tolerances of the 2 Vantages there were a lot smaller than the ones on your car. It's likely you had a press car or maybe a prototype. So is it this or the Portofino? Decisions, Decisions, Decisions!
Wait when did Matt start doing these again?
Honest and critical review. Love the t-shirt...where can we grab one?
A lunch break with a smoking tire vid my favourite way to spend it
It's a press car.
How does the heat from the engine help the turbos spool up faster? I believe you are misinterpreting the advantage of the "hot v" arrangement.
Unless you were referring to ECU mapping, I think the problem with this being the only application with a manual transmission is, for the most part, mitigated by the gearbox being a trans-axle. There's no issue physically mating the engine to the gearbox. However, on he electronics side, it may be more difficult.
This car looks stunning from the rear. But the previous Vantage looks stunning from any angle.
Thank you for an honest review of the car. Refreshing compared to others.
That bong sound is the bonnet open sound isn't it? Given the panel gap to the bonnet on one corner it certainly looks like it isn't latched on one side.
Hey Matt, 2019 Porsche 991 GT3 or this Aston Vantage? Keep up the great work!
I get the feeling Matt quit smoking pot, he looks more lively and skinnier but also seems extra annoyed with stuff like the warning beeps and janky key.
That's an accurate assessment. Better energy, harder workouts, and the tolerance for bullshit is gone.
That looks SOOO GOOD! Sounds good, too! Imagine a manual that wouldnt break down!
