1.) Happy Birthday! 2.) (EDITED TO SHOW FIFTY YEARS WITH WALTHERS) When I was last modelling 50 years ago, Walthers was a little company known for their wonderful lost wax castings of bits and bobs. A brass bell, a few valves and feedwater heaters, and a loco could come alive - sorta. Now I have employed many Walthers new DCC friendly points (switches) and Code 83 flex track throughout my new layout. Who says you can't learn new things at 80? 3.) Keep up the good work.
Only just been able to watch this weekly update, so a belated Happy Birthday to you! Regarding the attitude to women modellers, I have seen this at shows as well and do not understand why this is still so prevalent still. I always try to engage with viewers at shows when on the club layout (Foxborough) and am often accused of 'chatting up' the ladies! I feel by talking to the 'mums' with kids, I can then talk to the kids more easily if 'mum' (or Grandma) is involved in the conversation. Hope to see you at a show near Milton Keynes soon.
Happy Birthday! And thanks for bringing a fresh perspective to the hobby. "Brief Encounter" has always been a favorite movie of mine so I love your modeling "take" on it!
You may get away with using, and repainting, a Base Toys Leyland or Thorneycroft Pantechnicon OR try looking for a Bedford O series pantechnicon. Saw you in the car park at the S'ness show. Nice humbugs!
Thanks for the shout out. Happy Birthday Dawn. Hope you come to Shoeburyness with your Lady-killers layout. It was great to see you and your wonderful layout.
Happy birthday Dawn. Hope you have a lovely day , Grumpy hasn't forgotten, he's got you a Filet of Fish , meal , not just the filet. Hope I haven't spoilt the surprise. A fantastic model shop that I can personally recommend is Arcadia models in Shaw , nr Manchester. Tim not only welcomes everyone, but you also get offered a hot drink. If you're in the area I would highly recommend a visit. One of the best model shops in the country.
I know exactly how the lady feels who was being watched, I’ve had similar experiences in model shops. Unfortunately this is not confined to model shops but charity shops also, I suspect other shops also act this way. The sad reality is that it is the times we live in
I was visiting England back in the mid 80's and stopped at a model train shop in York. At one point I asked the proprietor with my tell-tale American accent if he had any Pirate Models kits. The sharp reply I got was "No - of course not!" Quickly my wife chimed in "Why would you ask about that?" to which I replied they are made in England. Apparently the proprietor overheard that conversation and later tracked me down in the aisles to show me a Pirate Models kit that they indeed did have. That is really the only bad experience I've had in a model train shop.
Having worked in retail in my younger days bad service is guaranteed to irritate me. However, you can assure your female contributor that she is not alone, it happens to us men as well. Before they closed there were a couple of model shops (one very well known at the time) I would not go in as I'm sure they didn't want to actually sell anything. One would totally ignore customers until they stood at the counter and the other would be downright rude and critical of your selection. I'm not surprised neither now exist. Happy birthday.
A Costermongers barrow would be more appropriate, as `this` wagon to me would be mora `at home` in the countryside upon a farm also what about the Express Dairy cart seen in the background? I know a man would just really enjoy in the renovation of that wagon too, as a sort of late birthday present for you, many happy returns Mrs Jesson. Take care both, sadly not in later tonight as its Van Day, thus will miss tonight`s " TWENSAP" but more so in not seeing your SMILE live. Take care Happy Birthday XX😘XX PS: How strange, my later partner Sheila`s birthday was the 7th of August too😢😢 But S`he` is always with me wherever I wander as I always carry a used lipstick with me, try not to go far without it, even on Van days. It being 08 Rose Reflect by Lancome` .
I personally would have pronounced it Hrileforthh dee Bwoontee-oww but, though in Cardiff I'm not a fluent Welsh speaker. Have you got a Studebaker for the layout? Happy Birthday!
Hi Dawn, you just asked me how I am going/doing. No meaning to be rude, but what does it have to do with you, how I am? 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁 Kidding!! 😜😜😜😜😜🥴🙄😳👌👌👍👍💋💋💋
In respect of the reception you get in model shops: Sadly I think the way some shop staff view their customers is shocking. The lady who wrote to you mentioned the "nearby Severn Valley Railway" so I think I know the shop she is talking about, and yes, you feel as welcome as a punctured tyre sometimes. However, that could be said for a number of other places. Unwelcoming premises with poorly laid out displays that challenge you to find what you want and are then almost impossible to access meaning that you get a "Humph...you'll have to wait a bit" from the staff. Staff who revel in being almost intimidating, especially to children and female shoppers. My wife refuses to go into them now as she is fed up with being utterly ignored or, worse still, the butt of a comment like "Oh she's let you come and look at the trains then...." Then there is the general attitude that you ought to know the answer to the question that you have just dared to ask. There are other things I could mention and I am sure you and your viewers can think of examples but the reality is that in too many cases venturing in to a model shop is an unhappy and off- putting experience.
Every modeler has their favorite locomotives and cars, so the shop personnel shouldn't put down a locomotive model as "A shed on wheels" just because it is not one of their favorites!
Happy 21st birthday Dawn!
You’re my favourite!
Many happy returns in advance.
A super happy birthday for Wednesday. Would love to join the live but Wednesday nights is when my local rail club has our meetings

Dawn, you just had a birthday? I had my 71st birthday yesterday, 8th August. Bill from California
You may get away with using, and repainting, a Base Toys Leyland or Thorneycroft Pantechnicon OR try looking for a Bedford O series pantechnicon. Saw you in the car park at the S'ness show. Nice humbugs!
Thanks Darren - the Base Toys model has come up a few times in mentions - I will check it out.

I had a lovely day - thank you. Grumpy surpassed himself with an offer of a Harvester early bird meal deal! I'm a lucky lady! :-)
Happy Birthday Dawn, lovely video update and I see you later for the livestream 👍
Thanks for joining us Simon - and a big thank you for the birthday present! That's very kind of you.

That's a real shame isn't it. I do know of many fantastic model shops - so I hope the poor customer service is the exception rather than the rule?
Happy Birthday, all the best, Lawrence x
Thank you Lawrence!

It's always so surprising to hear when shops don't practise good customer service!

@@modelrailwayquest I think it was a Studebaker Commander in The Ladykillers like in The Muppet Movie.
