    My God. What a mazing game! Turning around and around. Both pairs played well. But Chen and Jia persevered until the end. They saved 5 match points. They explained well what is called “never give up”. Chen and Jia, you deserve this champion. Love you. ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉

    After a nervous and shaky start at this tournament Matsuyama/Shida have been on fire in both the semi final and today's final. While they were unable to convert their advantage in the third game their team work , understanding and style of play is just stunning. I really look forward to see them at the All England shortly. Their sense of fun and enjoyment on court is infectious.

      Totally agree!

    • @hellostephanie
      @hellostephanie 9 месяцев назад +4

      Really thrilling to watch Matsuyama and Shida. They have obviously world class defense, and Matsuyama is normally the stronger player in her ability to read the shuttle and setup winners with her placement, but Shida played exceptionally well doing the same with cross court drops and net attacks to keep the pressure on the Chinese. They could have taken the third game if they kept the aggressive on and not give the Chinese pair a chance to attack since they seemed a bit slower moving in that game. But it was I'm sure they were exhausted. Incredible match!

    • @jackburtonstwin
      @jackburtonstwin 9 месяцев назад +3

      @@hellostephanie I agree. Normally, Matsuyama is the more aggressive point taker, attacking player, particularly in the front court, but Shida absolutely stepped up her game and was on fire all around the court. They are a great advisement for the women's game having retained all the unique qualities of the discipline without adopting the "might is right" men's approach to doubles. As a coach I would absolutely point to these girls as my ideal of what ladies doubles should be.

    • @hellostephanie
      @hellostephanie 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@jackburtonstwin well said!! Jia and Chen I think are pretty well rounded but with their ability to claim strong and angled smashes between the two of them, lean towards power playing in WD.... but as Gill's comment said it all, "what on earth happened to the Chinese pair?" during Game 2 as if they froze up and stopped moving like their normally highly aggressive defense and offense. Power was not helping them overcome Matsuyama and Shida's unbreakable defense. I feel like Japan deserved the win but they gave it their all and agree they were the outstanding pair in the Final. 👏🏼

    • @jackburtonstwin
      @jackburtonstwin 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@hellostephanie The Japanese were brilliant in their fightback from the second game onward but I always have that concern that when a pair are playing catch-up they are motivated to go harder and harder into every rally, but once they get level or move ahead of their opponents there is that slight loss of motivation. Just a tiny amount, but at this level a tiny amount is the difference between a gold and silver medal. They will need to take stock of that prior to the All England and find the means to be as ruthless as the Chinese pair were at the end of that final game. There is no question that they have the skill and the pace, but can they find the mindset to ruthlessly beat an opponent into submission without holding anything back?

    Compared to their absolute prime, Chen/Jia sometimes are less aggressive now and they don't have that ability to just quickly win straight points in a row. It may be due to injury or something, but I do have some level of concern for their Paris Olympic run as they are not the clear cut favorite I thought they were.
    Chen was not happy with how they performed this match, and you can tell by her lack of joy after winning.
