Coastwatch follows Fishery Officers from The Ministry for Primary Industries, NZ Airforce and Navy personnel, and the Maritime Police. Greenstone gets up close and personal to find out what’s involved in patrolling and enforcing the law that protects our coastlines, water-ways and billion dollar Kai-moana industries.
We also follow the men and women volunteering for Northland Regions Coastguard, and the Northland Electricity Rescue Helicopter. Tasked with responding to mayday calls, medical emergencies, on-water breakdowns and accidents, they keep our waterways, and those on them, safe. The Maritime Police, along with the Police National Dive Squad, are also on high alert for any maritime emergencies.

Well done fellas for your great Work ! And all my sincere condolences to the Families for their loss .
As an Australian, I'd like to apologise, for this Tool.... Deepest apologies, to New Zealand and your extremely diplomatic fisheries officers. 👍
What a goose 🪿 this character is… hahaha
I bet the officers meet some special characters out in the waters all the time 😅
How stressful having that conversation whilst on a rocky boat 😬
It couldn't have been easy on any of the crew 😢
youre doing good work boys
I dont give you jurisdiction 😂
Hahaha he sounds like an Aussie SovCit. “I don’t give you consent”. 😂😂
Sorry to our Kiwi friends. Australia.
An Australian boat person. 🤣🤣🤣.
😂😂
Same vibe as thinking facebook posts have legal powers
Sounds like sovereign citizens have made it onto the water
They are a bunch of people who “THINK” they know the law and are above the law. But in the end they always get put straight.
Good show guys. Still great lol
Another graduate of law from RUclips University (Facebook Campus).
I thought we were all one now lol! Abide by our rules Oker or we will board ye!
Why would you put up that fuss if he knows he has nothing nothing wrong?
That’s the whole point he’s doing nothing wrong.
Why do people feel the need to ignore their rights is the question if youv done nothing wrong you absolutely should not comply.
Perhaps he doesn't like fisheries scum.
@@kavalogue It's crucial to be mindful of what you say to the police, as your words can be used against you and may provide them with a reason to arrest you, particularly if you're disrespectful towards an officer. Keep yourself composed and courteous, and avoid providing false information or documents.
I'm sure he's a member of the sovereign citizens movement, and feels like he doesn't need to cooperate with the laws of the country of which he's engaging in, which he clearly doesn't know properly.
guess he had one too many fosters. lol
Sounds good love
With an attitude like that, the fisheries officers should have been more suspicious and checked the whole boat!
He was being rather suspicious, wasn't he? Could be hiding something 🤔
Why hasn't the orchardist who started this fire ever been held responsible? Two deaths and millions of dollars in costs! 😮
Addendum to earlier, Extremely professional officers, in such a sombre and difficult task..... VALE' the two crew of the Chopper.
Yes !
As a Canadian if you happen to cross the great lake borders over to the America side they are there in an instant with heavy guns and instantly board the boat no questions asked. Nor would you want to refuse with a rifle pointed and your face. That seemed like guys a bit riled up. They didnt tear apart the boat looking for non existent drugs screaming.
How do the producers know this bloke is Australian. Apart from the mispronunciation of the vowel Australian and New Zealand Accents are similar. He is probably an Aucklander.
The fisheries officers kept claim New Zealand fisheries waters which may be different to New Zealand territorial waters. Just like what is the difference between and "inspection" and a "search?" Did the officers not "search" the hold for fish?
get off my aussie boat lol
Jeese, this must be the "THICKEST" ausie i have ever seen lol
What did he have to hide 😂
Very tragic incident for the pilots who lost their lives but don't you think you should be looking at why the helicopter crashed for the fault this tragic accident not because there was a a fire obviously there was a malfunction that is what you should be investigating very sorry to hear the families that have lost loved ones
Aircraft crash investigation is a specialised field. Asking the naval coast guard to specialise in everything they might encounter is a pretty tall order.
What? Nothing to do with the video I presume.
confusion when you're english no longer defines whether it's a statement or question
Boaters with this type of attitude - “im fishing, you’re not coming in my boat, Dog!”
A week later - “mayday mayday mayday. My boat is sinking. Need assistance now!”
111 operator - “certainly sir. We have a fisheries vessels in the vicinity that will be be able to attend.”
These people ALWAYS hate the law….until they require the law for help.
So what happened with the fire investigation where the chopper crashed and two people died? Was the fire deliberately set?
International dingleberry
Add this WY have they got two rodes over in the water 💧 if they're not trying to get some fish ah?
Maritim law forbid ordinary officers boarding without Captains permission.
Water police is another story...
Maritim, Who's he?
well said ,, someone with half a brain
Lol the only way his opinion would be correct is if he was outside NZ waters and he had the Australian navy to support him.
He's a Sov Cit.
I exactly what I thought! "On, not in!"
Cop channels have really warped a lot of peoples views. You have rights. When people know their rights, cops play a game called "he's a sov cit" and that garners support and backup from normal every day people who observe because you've been made believe that people who know their right and the law are an issue. He isn't a sovereign citizen. They don't exist. He knows the law and he knows his rights. When you go to court everything is a technicality. On the street they don't allow technicalities yet thats exactly what it comes down to.
@@kavaloguenon acquiescing free agent is what he's doing. No consent no contract.
Love your video( first to comment and 1st to like)
These rules apply to all vessels upon the highseas & smooth and partially smooth waters therewith inif the captain is more than 2 nautical miles from shore then he's in international waters
you are wrong .... in commonwealth countries, liveaboard vessels are covered by international maritime law... this means constitutional law rules above all ... not legalese laws that are contrary to a commonwealth country's constitution. im not saying that is good , just saying you are mistaken as to who is allowed to set foot onboard when denied permission.
Luckily they got wet feet.
The powers that law enforcement think they have..smh
You have no orthority on you tube. Thats the law.
He should had a Maori flag on board
There is no Maori flag there is only one flag in new zealand and that is the new zealand flag with the union jack and the four stars. The Maori made their own flag, even when the new zealand flag was first designed that was the only flag that was designed there was never two flags designed.
SovCit in NZ
All countries come under UCC private law, ie maritime law, same as when you are in court room, public are slowly awakening to how it works, govt try to hide it,as public law is fraudulent!,every thing needs consent!
If he had the correct flag on his boat they need permission to board the boat from the captain,if they do you can send a call distress sign mayday and call the Navy for assistance, you have pirates trying to board your vessel. This is maritime law of the sea, which most people dont know, do your research!
Lucky the navy was already there then huh?
Under the New Zealand Fisheries Act in New Zealand waters it doesn't matter what flag you carry if they suspect you have been fishing they have the power to inspect your vessel. Historic foreign laws don't apply in NZ, NZ hasn't been an British colony for a long time.
He's not in international waters. It is an Australian vessel fishing illegally in New Zealand territorial waters. No permission required. Do your research. Boats illegally fishing in Australian waters are confiscated and oft times sunk and crews arrested. No permission from the captain required. You're talking rubbish.
@@regregan6852 Where was the navy? I didn't realize fisheries officers counted as naval sailors. Clown.
@@spazzypengin and he even says he's on a fisheries and navy patrol. Clown.
Old mate has been watching too many yank Maga videos.
Bahahahaa
Yes because knowing your rights is an American right wing thing is it? What a weird comment
Tell us you're a left-wing idiot, without telling us you're a left-wing idiot.
@kavalogue it's not knowing his rights, it's spouting made up Sovereign Citizen crap based on foreign precepts that has no applicability is Oz or NZ, just because it suits what he wants to believe. The exact equivalent of a 4 y.o. telling their parent, 'you're not the boss of me.' 😂
Getting all the training straight from the Biden administration 😂 lie and lie somemore and when they start to catch on display full on dementia
They're a shady operation to begin with! I wouldn't want those pirates boarding my vessel either.
Are you a smuggler, or fishing illegally? 😅
Take what ya can...give nothing back! Arrr
I don't believe they should have the right to board. They should need to have proof a crime has been committed. And why are the police wearing helmets? Hilarious.
No, they do not need proof a crime has been committted to inspect the boat. They are protecting our fisheries. They are not police, they are fisheries inspectors. Why do you find it hilarious that they use safety equipment?
Way to prove you know nothing of maritime law or enforcement... Maybe just let the adults speak...?
Agree
You obviously had your audio off. They are navy in the helmets and fisheries with none.
Early lol
And whats wrong with fishing we need food you know
There's no rules against carry a gun aboard your boat
