Have you ever travelled to Japan? Trained BJJ with Japanese MMA champions? As a frothy, fresh Blue Belt Joey's first comp was the Asian Championships in Tokyo! He travelled with his coach and Master to experience all that Japan had to offer:
1.) Training with Japanese MMA Champions
2.) Starving to cut weight for comp
    3.) Abstinence for Success
    4.) Judo Throws & Sh*ting Blood
5.) Fighting to the death... Respectfully!
There was a huge culture shock on training intensity, competition level and the darker side of travelling and competing. There are a lot of great take aways from this discussion, some of them cautionary. Entertainment at its best with epic stories from Joey's Japanese adventure.

I am currently living in Fukuoka, Japan so hearing your perspective on training here was so much fun! I can definitely relate to the meeting with a blue belt judoka hahah

Great video as usual, and I was so excited to hear you talk about this exact topic. I’m about to spend a couple weeks in Japan for family vacation, and I’m planning to do some training while I’m in Tokyo. It’ll be my first time visiting a gym in another country.

Started at 43 years old now, 44 and just got my blue belt
I am so impressed about this community that just makes me want more
Is addicting but more is an escape just like surfing
Thanks again for all your time and thanks to all doing it

Watching this knowing I am about to start training in Paraestra in Chiba Japan next week as a 50yr old!。Also you guys are spot on about the more relaxed culture. Biggest shock for me was seeing someone with tattoos in the Paraestra in Tokyo. Many gyms ban you from joining if you have a tattoo - the more relaxed gyms say you can have a tattoo just do not have it visible.

While international hasn't been an option for me I for sure make it a priority to find a gym anytime I'm out of town. Usually one of the highlights of my trip.

Bit crazy listening to this! Gearing up for my first comp at blue that just happens to be the Asian champs in a few days. Training in Japan in the lead up has been a blast

America probably the deepest competition currently IMO. Japan is awesome though and definitely has killers, Might run into a crazy strong Judoka/BJJ practitioner haha
