    Never had staph my entire life. Been wrestling since I was 13.
    Got ring worm for the first time at 25
    Just got staph for first time at 26
    Gotta study so this doesn’t happen again
    Hate missing training and not seeing my friends

    Big things I’m implementing from this:
    - getting a doctor check up
    - get long sleeve rash guards

  • @BrandonRosenstrauch
    @BrandonRosenstrauch 9 месяцев назад +6

    Rash guards DEFINITELY don’t stop, slow, or decrease the chances of getting staph (microscopic bacteria) in any way other than possibly decreasing the chance of abrasions/micro cuts in the skin. Rash guards do not act as a barrier to bacteria, but they do help prevent breaks in the skin.

    I contracted it on my last few days in thailand and had been to a few muay thai gyms over the month i was there and at first they looked like pimples then within 5 days they turned into massive cysts with bad inflammation, if you get these symptoms go see a doctor cos they turn quickly.

    • @gavinkainoagarcia5907
      @gavinkainoagarcia5907 Год назад +3

      This is not true.
      I’ve had MANY staph infections on the arms where the rash guard covers.
      Sweat accumulates even more in some cases, which is what creates a hospitable environment for staph bacteria.
      Medical PSA - staph is a normal bacteria on nearly everyone’s skin and only becomes a problem when it is overgrown.
      It thrives in damp sweaty environments which is why it shows up in gyms and does not have to be passed on by a training partner.
      Unfortunately some people are just more predisposed to developing symptoms. ie) Gordon Ryan being on antibiotics for an entire year and ruining his health - but this didn’t happen to every single person in his gym.

      This is just my personal experience but I train mostly Gi. Both times I have gotten staph have been after I trained no gi heavily. And it's started on the backs of my thigh where I've had skin to skin contact. Might just be a coincidence but I may start wearing spats now just in case there's a connection there

    Mates, I’m getting impetigo (type of staph) for the 3rd time in 2 years. Our gym has bad ventilation, it’s humid and in general not really hygienic. I’m taking showers right after class, yet I still got impetigo. I’ll be trying out a new protocol suggested by my dermatologist - moisturising in the morning, washing after class with Hibclens (Chlorhexidine solution) and moisturising after the wash. Any other suggestions?

      @bulletproofforbjj  2 года назад +5

      Sorry to hear that, sounds like a frustrating situation. When i was a pimply faced kid a skin doctor wanted to get me onto Roaccutane. I had friends who used it and all i remember is their skin was really dry - which is not ideal for a sport like BJJ. I never ended up taking it. But I am wondering if one were to take such a medication, could that increase their chances of catching things like staph... That last statement might be totally irrelevant to you too. In terms of advice, I would try and find a good holistic doctor/skin specialist who can take a wide ranging view of your health and maybe help you find a solution.

      could literaly just be a sweat gland problem and using a sauna for like 10 mins forcing your body to make a protective saline layer over your skin might be enough, and maybe just need more salt and/or water in your diet. who knows.

      I would say showering 7 days a week with soap and shampoo every time is insane. Try soap and shampoo 1ce a week, still shower if you exercise but just a quick shower or soak and clean where it matters. Use a expholiator like a air dryed towel to scrub yourself once in a while too. Will build up your own immunity, there is no quick fix. if you still have hair try mixing in some diluted apple cyder vinegar and scrubbing with that instead of shampoo.
