Never had staph my entire life. Been wrestling since I was 13. Got ring worm for the first time at 25 Just got staph for first time at 26 Gotta study so this doesn’t happen again Hate missing training and not seeing my friends Thanks for the vid
Rash guards DEFINITELY don’t stop, slow, or decrease the chances of getting staph (microscopic bacteria) in any way other than possibly decreasing the chance of abrasions/micro cuts in the skin. Rash guards do not act as a barrier to bacteria, but they do help prevent breaks in the skin.
I contracted it on my last few days in thailand and had been to a few muay thai gyms over the month i was there and at first they looked like pimples then within 5 days they turned into massive cysts with bad inflammation, if you get these symptoms go see a doctor cos they turn quickly.
@@staysolid19 I have been training for 5 years and never got it, don't worry about it if you have good hygiene, shower after every class and wear spats
Fortunately never had staph but have had ringworm 3 or 4 times since starting at my gym in January, even though I always have clean stuff in and shower as soon as I get home (10 min away). I’ve started wearing a long sleeve rash guard under my gi and it definitely seems to have helped
This is not true. I’ve had MANY staph infections on the arms where the rash guard covers. Sweat accumulates even more in some cases, which is what creates a hospitable environment for staph bacteria. Medical PSA - staph is a normal bacteria on nearly everyone’s skin and only becomes a problem when it is overgrown. It thrives in damp sweaty environments which is why it shows up in gyms and does not have to be passed on by a training partner. Unfortunately some people are just more predisposed to developing symptoms. ie) Gordon Ryan being on antibiotics for an entire year and ruining his health - but this didn’t happen to every single person in his gym.
This is just my personal experience but I train mostly Gi. Both times I have gotten staph have been after I trained no gi heavily. And it's started on the backs of my thigh where I've had skin to skin contact. Might just be a coincidence but I may start wearing spats now just in case there's a connection there
Mates, I’m getting impetigo (type of staph) for the 3rd time in 2 years. Our gym has bad ventilation, it’s humid and in general not really hygienic. I’m taking showers right after class, yet I still got impetigo. I’ll be trying out a new protocol suggested by my dermatologist - moisturising in the morning, washing after class with Hibclens (Chlorhexidine solution) and moisturising after the wash. Any other suggestions?
@@getyasum1368 I do get it occasionally, yes, but it's usually very controllable. Showers after class / not letting my sweat dry out played a huge role. Consult a dermatologist, my issue comes from dry skin...
question. as a child I often got staph, even the golden one, but never treated it. Is it possible I have a naturally resistance to staph? Usually it goes away after a week
Great podcast any info on the micro shield barrier soap you mentioned? I’ve had staph twice this year and I use defense soap but I do have dry skin. Three different gyms saunas who knows where I’m picking it up at?
Zero stripe white belt here (trained for 8 months, 2 comps, 15 matches), sitting here with ringworm and some subform of staph while my coach never had any skin infection in 25 years. Makes me angry
I just caught molluuscum contagiosum and haven't been able to traindue to a viral rash outbreak all over my body :( the worst part is that it lass months to even years and i dont know whenI can go back to training
I was in the same situation. I was told the same thing but I’ve been using apple cider vinegar and 70% rubbing alchol , mixing those two and putting it on the mollescum contigiosum. It’s slowly dries it out and kills it . I’ve had it all over my arms and stomach . And now there’s only like 20% left . Been doing it for 2 weeks straight . In 2 weeks I think I’ll be fully cleared . Try it out
I’ve gotten staph twice this month, I just started Jiu jitsu 5 months ago and I don’t really know what to do to stop it. I shower after practice and take care of open cuts. It might be my pimply face but im not too sure. Im tired of having to jump on antibiotics every second week. Any advice for this? Also thanks for the vid, helps to watch while waiting to see the doctor😂
Sorry to hear that, sounds like a frustrating situation. When i was a pimply faced kid a skin doctor wanted to get me onto Roaccutane. I had friends who used it and all i remember is their skin was really dry - which is not ideal for a sport like BJJ. I never ended up taking it. But I am wondering if one were to take such a medication, could that increase their chances of catching things like staph... That last statement might be totally irrelevant to you too. In terms of advice, I would try and find a good holistic doctor/skin specialist who can take a wide ranging view of your health and maybe help you find a solution.
could literaly just be a sweat gland problem and using a sauna for like 10 mins forcing your body to make a protective saline layer over your skin might be enough, and maybe just need more salt and/or water in your diet. who knows.

i had it really bad dose, my hand turned to puss after a pin prick from fibre optic i had to have opp to clear infection was in hospital for a week the n it spread to my back turned into a massive boil ended up in hospital for another week had a big hole in my back after opp then my leg it was a nightmare ,don't take it lightly only stopped in last six months touch wood . got some nasty scars it got so bad i was bathing in bleach i use medical soap every day so scared to catch it again try not to get run down avoid sugar mine was the worst you can get P vl strain
I would say showering 7 days a week with soap and shampoo every time is insane. Try soap and shampoo 1ce a week, still shower if you exercise but just a quick shower or soak and clean where it matters. Use a expholiator like a air dryed towel to scrub yourself once in a while too. Will build up your own immunity, there is no quick fix. if you still have hair try mixing in some diluted apple cyder vinegar and scrubbing with that instead of shampoo.
@@itsL7L You should definitely use body soap/wash every day and should also wash your face every day. Not using shampoo every day is fine, 2-3 times or sometimes even less is optimal.
@@steve00alt70 Get that treated my friend. Taping won't help really, yes keep all your nails short but fungal infections need treating- it only takes a couple weeks.
I use Defense Soap. It's kinda expensive for a bar of Soap but I saw it clear a rash on my abs in 2 days. Now I know it works. Once a week I use Defense Soap. It's got a strong chemical smell but supposedly it's all natural. Smells kinda like diesel fuel. It works though.
funny they mention wrestlers being careful about skin infections. at least as an american, we are not. the higher level you go, the more they just wrap shit up and go. Big things I’m implementing from this:
- getting a doctor check up
- get long sleeve rash guards

get yourself some "defense" wipes and keep them in your bag. Wipe yourself down as soon as your done training and shower as soon as you get home.
Theres some nasty people at your gym still training with it then
Any recommendations for the microshield soaps you mentioned?
I only do long sleeves because of this. Does that help?
So long sleeve Rashguards and spats decrease the chances because there’s less skin contact
Yes its an extra barrier and it also pulls a lot of bacteria off you when you get changed
