When life's was good to be home on a Friday night.and wake up to Saturday morning cartoons..old the best days
What makes this clip amazing, is that ABC's "We Love TV" promo featuring contributions from ABC's stars included.
Miss those days wish I could go back everything was so simple
Same
This is from 1998, the second year of ABC's yellow look as they now adopted their familiar 4-note jingle which would be used for more than 15 years.
This is fantastic. Oh....the memories! I loved TGIF!
TGIF i always watched it every friday nights.. :0 these are bringing back memories.
ABC's TGIF block (1989-2000) began to die in the fall of 1997: stemming from a combination of aging sitcoms like Family Matters and Step by Step moving to CBS (who started - and ended - their own family-friendly Friday night sitcom line-up in 1997-98 called "The Block Party"), the oversaturation of supernatural/magic type shows (Sabrina the Teenage Witch and new series You Wish and Teen Angel, the latter of which both lasted only one season), the failure of Two of a Kind (which was the last sitcom produced by the previously reliable Miller-Boyett group) starring the Olsen twins the following year. Ultimately, the ending of Boy Meets World after seven seasons and Sabrina, The Teenage Witch moving to The WB after the 1999-2000 season.
ABC would bring back the TGIF brand for the 2003-05 & 2018-19 seasons, but it never met the same success it had before.
I was originally born in the year 1998 and still, I did not watch TGIF on ABC since I was young.
This is during the dying age of the "original" TGIF.
Avery Merrick But atleast it was good...
+Allanbuzzy No, it was not. The 1st season without Family Matters, the ratings tanked for that season. The block got cancelled in 2000 (3 years later).
Avery Merrick TGIF was dying but the ratings weren't terrible... at least compared to CBS's block of the quickly-canceled "Meego" and the network-hopping "Family Matters" and "Step By Step." "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" (in its second season) and "Boy Meets World" were still going strong, and "Teen Angel" and "You Wish" got better ratings than subsequent replacements "Two of a Kind" and "Brother's Keeper."
+Vinnie Rattolle You are right. ABC was never able to find another hit flagship show for TGIF after they canceled Family Matters in 1997 (the following two shows "Two of a Kind" and "The Hughley's" both failed in that 8pm timeslot).
@@averymerrickBummer. I liked "Two Of A Kind".
OMG! Recess! :D AHH! I used to watch this channel ALL the time.. nostalgia is kicking in..and BTW, what the heck happened to M&Ms Crisps?? They still have the blue bag but its pretzals now.. :( I'm 24 now, this channel, Disney, Toon Disney, and Cartoon Network were the BEST. Now..its just cartoons that don't make sense...luckily, I'm teaching my little brother watching GOOD cartoons on the Boomerang channel...like Scooby Doo, Ed, Edd, Eddy, Billy and Mandy, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and all that fun stuff.. :)
On October 5, Tgif returns to ABC.
Two established sitcoms and a game show does not a TGIF make. In the years since TGIF vanished, ABC's had other family comedies like Last Man Standing, The Neighbors, Malibu Country and various others on Friday nights. It ain't the same without the cast-hosted interstitials to tie everything together, and sticking a damned game show on there is just wrong!

You’re not wrong, however: ABC seems to be committed to the new TGIF.
The first promo they ran on August 10 during Fresh off the Boat used the 1994-96 theme, they didn’t do that in 2003.
Hopefully, they bring back the hosting segments, TGIF intro and outro.
Also, if the lineup is successful, they may return to the two hour format.
Well, I stand corrected. I figured they were just *calling* it TGIF, which really hasn't existed since 1999, when they dropped the skits. They kept the name and a few of the shows for a couple more years, but it wasn't the same. Here's hoping for some cool new stuff with the Speechless and Fresh Off the Boat casts.
TGIF at its best!
I miss entertaining commercials now everything just too bland. You can tell that they were in tune with trends and actually cared about it.
Me too. Nowadays I find only find one or two good commercials.
I always love yellow. WPVI 6abc always love yellow bumper from any ABC shows. These billboards from Philadelphia area had displayed the yellow campaign such as Philly loves cheese steak, the city of brotherly love, and blue loves yellow with a 6abc logo. Did that happen for Philadelphia back in September 1997?
So TGIF was broadcast Fridays on ABC, by the way wasn't "Two Guys, A Girl and A Pizza Place" part of the TGIF Lineup?
Technically yes in 2000-01 but it was no longer branded TGIF after Boy meets world and Sabrina left the lineup in 2000.
amazing one super soccer saturday morning promo
