  • In part 3 I fix the recoil starter on the ariens 926LE snowblower. The cord broke years ago and I am finally getting around to fixing it now. The information in this video should apply to many recoil starters on lawn/garden equipment.

Yesterday, I had this job, except reused the remaining OEM rope and handle. I had to feed it from the outside in.
TIP: To feed it in reverse (outside In), flatten the rope tip, use scissors to cut the frayed tip to an pointy arrowhead shape.
Take a longer thin allen wrench and feed both the wrench and rope together (as one unit) into the hole, probe for the inner hole, hold the rope still and work the allen wrench until the rope frayed edge peeks through.
Ensure the allen wrench is long enough to work with.
Take needle nose pliers and gently wiggle the rope through the outer hole and then inner hole, pull rope through to tie into a knot and then hit the rope end with a lighter afterwards.
Ensure the rope knot is tight.
I turned the inner spool 5 times because you still want some tension on the rope when fully retracted.
I also held the tensioned spooler in position with a thicker regular sized allen wrench so I don't have some unwieldly screwdriver handle bothering my work.

No problem. The snow blower in the video is still working great and definitely has been used a lot already this season. Glad I could help you out 😀.

Why does it say Toro ?

Likely the pull start was swapped for a toro branded one. Since back when it was made the same engine was used on a bunch of snow blowers. It’s possible the engine is a actual toro unit, but it is the correct engine series for that snow blower, so for that sake it isn’t a big deal since it does work.
