Well you know all these other painters that say: "You don't want to paint every single leaf and blade of grass, who wants to spend their time doing that??" Michael: hold my beer You do need a certain amount of neuroticism to enjoy this process, but Michael seems to love it :)
only a dozen subscribers. I'm new to painting and your work has inspired me so much. I'm not so much amazed but grateful that your channel has expanded to the point where it was able to touch my life and inspire me to start painting. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you @Michael James Smith for bringing me into this wonderful colourful world.
Thank you sir! I am a huge fan of yours and am always excited when a new video comes out. If you can think of any way I can help your channel at all, I would be honored to do so.
This video has been SO helpful. I'm currently painting some cows in a field and have been driving myself mad trying to figure out how to do the grass! Thank you so, so much! You are a fantastic teacher. :)
Thank you for showing me the way.You are not only an excellent artist but an excellent teacher as well. Your calm laid back approach to your demos is nice and not talking over music is such a bonus, good luck. Geoff.
This is one of the few truly helpful videos on RUclips!! Thank you, sir!. Just about all so-called tutorials are nothing more than ego-based time lapse "Look at me!" clips You actually teach and film in real time! Very very useful!
I absolutely love detail and that is precisely what's attracted me to this art. The world is such a beautiful place. I am so lucky to live in such a gorgeous part of our English countryside and because I do I'm definitely giving this a go! Exciting times ....thank you Michael : )
Hi ,I started acrylic painting on canvas 3years ago , looked at many artist painting,it helped me alot ,now looking at your art painting it has helped me much more, I'm in my 60s , art was always in me ,thank you for helping me a making me a better. artist. Dom. Ireland
Love your techniques, sense of humor & the humble premise with which you attempt to teach us your insane talent. I've used acrylics for years and know I can incorporate many of your techniques, but watching your videos reeeeally makes me want to switch to oils!! Now I'm off to watch more of your fantastic tutorials! Thanks for sharing.
Well, I am proud to be one of the dozen or so! Actually, almost up to 100,000-not too shabby there! Even though I am still slogging through with acrylics, your videos are always beautiful, always and inspiration. Thank you.
Thank you. Am trying to paint a landscape which has a number of grassy hilly fields in it and this has shown me what to do next with the blocked in areas. Now I can get my fan brush and paint and start filling in all the lighter areas of the field in the front and all the hilly ones in the background which need more light and shade. I have been so impressed that I have joined your subscribers and will be visiting your other tutorials with interest. I paint in oils and it is difficult to find tutorials that deal with the basics of oil painting in landscapes. I also prefer Windsor and Newton although I also find Daler Rowney very good.
Wowsers!!! Now I see why my grass looked like a child's swipe of green. I really have so much more to go, thank you so much! Amazing painting, these videos make me appreciate the work and time that goes into a painting!
I love your videos! You're the best. I don't understand all that you speak because I'm Brazilian and I don't speak English very well, but I learn with your lessons. Thank you and God bless you for give me a little of you grace.
David Newton - so because somebody already knows this technique is reason for them to dislike? How are people who dont know this technique supposed to learn it? What a stupid reason, not everyone is an expert already.
I dont know that I have EVER disliked ANYTHING! even when I dont learn anything, even when I dont like the personality, I just stop watching and move on...I know, for some people, that's mind boggling. Lol the same people who are burning are cities and sh*t talk all day every day. Miserable people.
Do you know what Michael!! With all the art teachers I have been to ,none could show me how to do grass like you,God Bless you, now I can do it yeaaa! TFS Mairead in Ireland
I just recently watched 1of your other tutorials on Rocks, I then typed your name at you tube and found a lot more of you with various tutorials, you do define details and It caught my attention, more than most other artists on you tube, your explanation is so helpful.Thank you!
Infinitas gracias, por las enseñanzas, los tips, la camara lenta para los detalles, para que podamos captar todo. Feliz de encontrar tu canal recomendado por un sr. francés. Un abrazo desde Chile
Lol only a few subscribers... you are one of the top ten painters on youtube in my opinion and your tutorials are very informative and entertaining... you will have thousands of subscribers in no time!
Michael! You have just become my hero. I have searched for months for a video on how to paint grass. I hadn't looked in awhile and decided to look again today and found you. Yours is, by far, the best video on this topic I've found. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Do you sell any tutorials? I am a fan. May the Holy One of all creation continue to bless you and your talent.
Oh, WOW, thank you again. Very impressive work. A true artist. Thanks for teaching; this is the perfect video for me, as I am trying to learn to paint grass your way. I hope I can do half as good but I'm going to keep trying until I get it right. I'm using acrylic because of breathing problems but I think I can still try this with Acrylics. Once again, I love your paintings and I love your videos. Thank you so much, Michael James Smith.
Do you think you could do a video that describes in more detail how you do your blocking? Like a dedicated video. Such as how you draw it out or how you choose your colors etc...? Thanks a ton for all the great videos. I had an accident thar messed my back up and I can't really paint anymore but watching your video sort of fills in that empty spot. You're the best! Keep it up.
I love your work. This painting is a great study in layering value as well as transitioning of texture to create depth. I look forward to your next project. Thanks
this is stunning man! And i love the humour and the self deprecating tone 😂 calling yourself a twat and yet this is brilliant 👍 absolutely awesome, love it.
Just watched this video plus the one about painting reeds. Brilliant stuff. Great techniques AND explained so clearly. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Much appreciated.
Amazing! You make it look so easy. Hey, if you're still looking at this post, I was wondering how long, if at all you let the paint dry between colors.
Michael, your tutorial is simply brilliant! Thank you. It's an area I struggle with a lot in my paintings, and your video is going to help me get through some of those hurdles. I'm going back to watch all the videos I can find with your work! Awesome! Thank you so much for sharing your wondeful skill. God bless the work of your hands.
Really beautiful work. It's an inspiration even though I know I could never get close to this. Thank you for taking the trouble to put it on RUclips for us to see.
michael i think i love you lol. i always only did one layer of grass and could never understand why i could never get any kind of realism. Now i'll try it your way and see if it helps. Thanks a lot. keep up the good works. James
Wow! This is exactly what I've been searching for.The intricate detail of the grass in the foreground is brilliant. What a delicate touch you have. Beautiful work.
Okay, I learned soooo much from you. I've seen several of your other videos and I am so very impressed. I'm going to try to put this to use. A few of the people at work like my pictures but if I could just paint like you I'd be doing so much better. I also loved the video of the pebbles in the water on the garden path. I see now that I've only been using dark and light without a mid tone.... yikes, every time I see a video it's something I want to try!
thanks so much, i have a photograph of a water scene, and there is quite a few clumps of grasses in the water and beside it, this is invaluable to me.......Your work is amazing......
Yikes I was painting and came upon this for help with grass. This person's art is incredible. I am going back to my kindergarten painting now and cry.
I feel you 😅👍
Same I was painting nature 😭😭
Well you know all these other painters that say: "You don't want to paint every single leaf and blade of grass, who wants to spend their time doing that??"
Michael: hold my beer
You do need a certain amount of neuroticism to enjoy this process, but Michael seems to love it :)
When you said 12 subscribers I was like "what, no way" so I looked at how many subscribers you have now and it's over 1 million. Good for you 👍
only a dozen subscribers. I'm new to painting and your work has inspired me so much.
