I´m just thinking over this conflict and comparing it with war in Ukraine. I wonder, why there are still no bomb shelters in Gaza strip ? So long time passed, so much aid given to Gaza. Responsibility on protection of its own people rests on goverment. Definitely principle of proportionality in war should be applied. However, possibility of speculation on this matter should not be removed from agenda. There was very harsh reaction in Ukraine, when few bomb shelters appeared to be locked and not ready. So at the end, low civilian casualty rate becoming weak point of the side being attacked. I´m still not sure if my reflections are correct. @@attajacob
I feel for all the suffering civilians. If or when we are attacked again by domestic or foreign enemies there will be no concerns about civilians, look at Ukraine. War is just bad all the way around.

That is the wrong math. The settlements are as livable as they are to make life for those living with refugee status less of a trauma. When the Tribes lived in tabernacles, were they refugees? But what were they in Captivity -- living in mansions? They are refugees because they have refugee status not because of the kind of homes they have. How you ever heard of a group of people that have been considered 'refugees' for 75 years? UNWRA is the only UN agency that has taken care of this population since 1948. This horrible situation is almost entirely of Israeli making. But the western world is also responsible for installing Israel into that area without creating a 2 state country from the beginning. Knowing that Gaza is the resulting home of displaced Palestinian refugees from what is now Israel is so sad. The west owes it to the Palestinian people to as much as possible fix this horrific situation by putting Israel in its place and giving back the vast majority of the country to the Palestinians.

It’s still surprising how the UN does make any strong statements against Hamas. Everyone understands the tragedy that’s going on with innocence being killed however, there is nothing about war. What I failed to here in this discussion is a call for Hamas to surrender and stop. That would end this conflict immediately and relieve the burden on the civilian population. Why is it that Hamas is always left out of the conversation and all the emphasis is placed on Israel?

This supports that the number of deaths reported by the (Hamas controlled) Gaza health ministry is a good representation of the total _civilian_ deaths in Gaza. So when they say "9000 dead", it doesn't mean "less than 9000 and many of them are Hamas", it means more like "9000 dead civilians, plus an undisclosed number of Hamas". This analysis does not indicate whether those missing numbers are because the health ministry is not including Hamas deaths, or is not including "missing but not yet confirmed dead".

I´m just thinking over this conflict and comparing it with war in Ukraine. I wonder, why there are still no bomb shelters in Gaza strip ? So long time passed, so much aid given to Gaza. Responsibility on protection of its own people rests on goverment. Definitely principle of proportionality in war should be applied. However, possibility of speculation on this matter should not be removed from agenda. There was very harsh reaction in Ukraine, when few bomb shelters appeared to be locked and not ready. So at the end, low civilian casualty rate becoming weak point of the side being attacked. I´m still not sure if my reflections are correct. @@attajacob

At the end of the video, the UN relief agency said that the percentage of their staff killed by Israel since 10/7 matches the percentage of what's been reported in Gaza overall. 72 deaths is a high enough number to have reasonably high accuracy.
I'm going to make a couple of assumptions.
1. None of the killed unwra staff were Hamas militants.
2. Unwra staff are otherwise fairly representative of the gazan population (they don't stay disproportionately in the north where Israeli attacks are more frequent)
3. There is no single event which accounts for a large fraction of the 72 deaths.
This supports that the number of deaths reported by the (Hamas controlled) Gaza health ministry is a good representation of the total _civilian_ deaths in Gaza. So when they say "9000 dead", it doesn't mean "less than 9000 and many of them are Hamas", it means more like "9000 dead civilians, plus an undisclosed number of Hamas".
This analysis does not indicate whether those missing numbers are because the health ministry is not including Hamas deaths, or is not including "missing but not yet confirmed dead".
