Prior to installation, I would remove 1/4 inch of adhesive tape in the center. That should allow slow leak between glass and spoiler allowing water to drain. I did that on my E46 to prevent water collecting and sitting on top of the trunk, worked well there.
The method of installation was fine but to make sure your alignment is correct first time, find the centre point of the accessory & very gently make a cut in the adhesive backing, carefully peeling back a tail piece top and bottom as in the video. Then offer up to the pre-marked center alignment, gently but firmly begin to press the accessory onto the glass, moving outwards alternating sides as you peel off more of the adhesive backing until you get to the end. Working your way out from the centre for this kind of job usually works better for me as I find that it more often than not turns out to be a measure twice, cut once affair. But of course, to each their own.
Mark, it’s Ryan. I got my M3 on Monday! I just wanted to make sure you got your supercharger points! Also wanted to send you a pic of me picking up the car! If u can give me an email that would be great! Thanks again for all the videos! Yours was the very first Tesla video I watched so that’s why I used your referral code! Thanks again for everything!!
A premium US made car with state of art technology that can’t stand rain? I am a huge fan of Tesla but this is simply embarrassing. Great gadget that will drop of. The glue will not make it. (if the rain or heat won’t make it losen, the cold in Scandinavia or Canada will). But good tip and video!
It indeed seems to help for this water into trunk issue! On the negative it seems it's quite protuberant and killing the sleek aero of the model 3... Any additional wind noise from the back ? I'd like to see a highway efficiency test as this feels it can reduce Cd by probably a point or 2...
It is an improvement, but i see water jumping the seal into the trunk. Just watch at 1/4 speed. The trunk is just really bad designed. I like tesla, but this again shows they are new in the automotive industry. I really hope things improve even more with model y. I hate sedans because they are not practical. The s and x are to expensive. So the y would be the one i would buy.
@@MarkDickinson really? If the Y gets a trunk door there's not much to it compared to the 3. I believe it'll get a good large hatch door like the S and X.
The more recently produced Model 3's (including all those made for the UK market) already have a small lip installed at the foot of the window to prevent this issue.
Looks like it can actually make it worse by making a ramp for the water to jump into the trunk. Sure, in smaller amounts, it looks to help. Looks like a waste of money and looks pretty bad. Just too many really unnecessary accessories out there and a lot of owners want another Tesla item. I purchased a few like the mats and brighter lights, but I was really surprised by some like the Tesla trash bags. Really?

Nice video. Btw balance it with a pencil on a table to find the center before installing.
Perfect solution.
Looks great to me. Thanks a lot. One question: Does it influence the brake light?
Fruchtig78 I’ll do a community post to show not bad tho
Does it block that center brake light at all?
Angela E not bad at all. I’ll do a community post so you can see

That’s so amazing. Let me know when you get the email I’ll remove it! So excited to hear. I’ll check but as long as you received yours that’s great!!
Mark Dickinson just sent ya an email
I just installed this last weekend and it's definitely a huge improvement. Those who think that it affects the look, I can say it's barely noticeable.
I like the look from
The rear. It stops so much of that water.

Thanks for the great video!!!
Awesome installation, Mark!
Thanks Mitchell
Mark Dickinson You’re so welcome, Mark

fabriziom didn’t hear any wind noise yesterday on the highway.
Drive again today. The only noise I hear is front windshield.
@@MarkDickinson good to know! Thanks
If you don’t want the water gets into the trunk, open the lid slowly. So let’s the water drips down into the gutter before you open it up completely.
The design doesn’t work that way. The coalescing of the water drops accelerate even the smallest ones.
Wow, problem solved👍
It is an improvement, but i see water jumping the seal into the trunk.

Model y is the same:( just needs a little lip. Not many cars have this flaw to trunk so smooth like this.
@@MarkDickinson model Y has a hatchdoor. Doubt it will ever happen !
fabriziom ah I’ve seen two versions of the y.

fabriziom I’m trying to locate the photo. I’ll link it back here.
I have never had this happen, and I live in the UK where it really rains....
Nick Baker lucky.
Same, UK based bad weather and has never happened. Did used to happen on my Jaguar XF though all the time

Yes just checked my car and there is a rubber seal below the rear window.
8:54 it doesn't work.

no longer available
Ya
Nice Tesla man,
*Ah thanks*
He came over and talked for a bit. That’s always nice.
@@MarkDickinson I can't wait till I can get a Tesla 😭
The car comes with a new design rubber seal now from the factory so this no longer happens.
I wonder when they added it mines may 2019
Mark Dickinson I’m not sure mines April 2019 but I will ask if they can install it on my next service appointment
