That 1988 Metallica one really hurt.
Metallica needs to release And Justice for Bass
What Metallica did to Jason Newsted is so sad, and no apology will do. They should get together with him, redo “and justice for all”, because let’s just say it: there was no justice, and then pay him 100% of the proceeds. It would be a start.
@@allfunnydogsstories2129 they didnt mute the bass with the intention to harm jason, research more
@@aimtenshithey did it because they grieved for cliff, and if I'm correct they were very hostile to him so... I think there was some intent
@@raven5953 no there wasn't. Even Cliffs bass at times was barely audible
Went to a Rush concert with my 10-year-old son, his first rock concert. Our entire seating section was nothing but dads with their sons. In other words, you nailed the Dad bit. Kudos.
Man. Wish i got to go with my dad, we planned it but life got in the way. At least i got to see whats left of Boingo with him :)
RIP Neil Peart
I have ABSOLUTELY inherited my love for RUSH from my dad. Rip Neil Peart.
It sounds awesome congrats but try not to take him to TOO MANY. Concerts have insanely loud high decibel music, and that young of an age, his ears can be pretty sensitive. One or two are okay, but if you become a frequent concert enthusiast he may lose his hearing before he even exits high school.
My dad got me into rush which eventually got me into going full force into music. Keep it up man :) your doing great!
You forgot to put "awesome" in front of the word "dads".
As a dad....nailed it
Idk why I forgot the song name
Is it Rush?
Yes, it's YYZ by Rush.
@@WidSilson thx man i love rush now i feeel dumb
I wish he played the entire song😊
It took my mom literal years to understand the difference between bass and guitar. When it finally clicked she said "Can you play this?" It was Twilight Zone by Golden Earing. The entire bass line is just a G 8th note chug for the entire song. And I literally pulled it out by ear in 10 seconds and played it, and she was like "Yah that's so groovy!". I never felt more useless.
lol just know you made her day 😂
Sounds like my mom😂
You made sounds.
She made you
@@williamstamper442thus, she made sounds.
my mom wants me to learn guns n roses...
The 'Woah, ok Jack White' SLAYED me. Well played.
Same 😂😂😂 spat my tea out and everything 😂
honestly went over my head.. is it bc jack experiments a lot? or normally has relatively complex grooves?
@@brettdawson7236 It was more the delivery and timing than any deep thinking on technique
@@mattmcilwhan if there's a thing ima do it's overtime. thanks for explaining!
@@brettdawson7236 from the original skit, the dumb pop producer mentions jack white and seven nation army, and the bit is that is the only rock artist he knows, so when Charles plays something even the tiniest bit more complex than just the root note, he calls him jack white
That 1988 Metallica cracked me up and made me cry at the same time. Poor Jason....
Hey he did a great job in Flotsam and Jetsam
Nothing wrong with the “Dad” selection. I heartily approve!
i may not be a dad but i always loved the bass in that song and it was always super fun to play on rock band
I wholeheartedly agree! Bass playing Dad with Bass playing 11 year old Son. 🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
@@erikavery1105same heh but im 13 and playing for a year now and my dad has the highest expectations
As a multi-percussionist, you nailed the first one. 10/10
Not a dad yet but, YYZ SLAPS!
Keep it in your pants young fella, DON'T RUIN YOUR LIFE.
🤣🤣🤣🫵🪨
@@jonny555ivenah having kids is great
@@TT-jy2db That depends if you're ready, of course. If OP is 17, then having kids is NOT great. I'm 41, and I love my kids more than anything, but having kids before one is legally an adult themselves is just insane.
@@TT-jy2db Many people don't even want kids
@@metalswifty23 many people also want kids
I feel called out on the Rush one. I'm not even a dad
As a drummer this is accurate
Agreed. Always love a chaotic mesh of the wackiest time signatures ever known to man.
@@umprotm9152 nice lol
Facts....something about the bass player going crazy makes me play better
It basically just allows us to do what we really want to do: Hit everything on the kit within ten seconds in a completely random - but crucially rhythmic - order and then just keep doing that.
Not a dad but am standing in solidarity with aforementioned dads.🎸
Same!
1988 tallica had me crying for Jason...
“Neighbors” I’m crying 😂😂😂🥲💀🥂
This is such a plus for Cliff era. Yes we all feel the 1988 pain
The fuzzy AF Cliff-Era Metallica is where it's at. That was such a cool sound. And great playing, as always.
Nice that the Jack White producer got a cameo in this short. That was my favorite comedy video of yours.
I like that you still looked at your fretboard during the pop Producers section
Moms: the fretless bass line to "As The World Falls Down."
I love that bass line....!
I was just listening to the Girl in a Coma cover of this the other night. It's my favorite version.
@@jamesaitken5653...Mum?!
bowie had some killer basslines
@@sroycze9284 my favourite Bowie basslines are actually from Gail Ann Dorsey. Heat from The Next Day. Also Tim Lefebvre's work on Blackstar. Late period Bowie is fantastic
As a drummer, I was thinking, yeah but maybe a little more Geddy. Then as a dad, you nailed it.
That moment when you catch a cool CB short and go to comment only to realize that you already said that exact thing 9 months earlier. *sigh* I'll just see myself out to go practice Meg White's greatest hits as penance 😳
Everybody also asks for “another one bites the dust” lol
Don't forget a kind of magic
What "normal" people (people with no brain) really asks bassists to play:
"Hi can u play guns n roses solo(sweet child O' mine)"
"Ayo can you play some black sabbath?"
"What about Master of Puppets?"
@@WelcomeToTiltedTowers bruh when that happens i really do get emotional damage 💀💀💀
I've been several of these.. the dad, the drummer, and the wedding bassist. Spot on!
Darn straight on the Dads sound.
1 sounded sick as hell bro i need more of that
I'm all in with the Dads - RUSH!
I'm a Dad and that YYZ solo was EXACTLY what I wanted to hear played!
I talked to Lars, he said you really nailed the spirit and tone of AJFA.
Me living in Dearborn Michigan and immediately thinking AJFA is the newest restaurant on the east side.
Please like if you understand my comment.
Actually I could care less about likes, id rather see your comment here
As an ex-drummer and now a handpan player, you're bang on with that first one.
With a damn fire banger. Wish I had a full 3min song of just that. Slaps hard, man!
Both those Metallica references resonated with me.
I truly love watching this guy! Perhaps one of the best musician on RUclips!!!!!!!!!!
I (and many other people) want you to play whatever you write, because you have incredible composition skills
Your YYZ was perfect. And I love that your pop bass had only 1 string.
I love the bass with only a single string. For most pop music, that’s all you really need on bass. Finishing up with some Geddy Lee made me smile. When you’re talking about the best, Geddy has to always be in the conversation somewhere. Lee, Squire and Entwistle changed the way people looked at bass in rock music and took it over the bar.
There’s been a lot of recent pop tunes with really interesting basslines too
THE ONE STRING BASS GETS ME EVERY TIME!!! on the floor. every time. can't help it, too funny
Oh man, 4 & 5 had me laughing out loud. And as a dad (who is also a drummer), you're spot on with 1 & 7.
i just want a full YYZ video now
yeah that would be nice
I appreciate the love you consistently show Cliff
same!
The one string was too funny😂 Keep up the great work bro, God bless. Happy New Year
I love that you're versed in the complete soundtrack of my life.
I immediately smashed the like button when the dad riff came on. As a dad, I approve
Charles, you should create a video entitled, "What EVERY Bassist Wants To Play" and then just a solid hour of your originals
AMEN yes nice 1
Drummer: just play crazy time signatures
TOOL: crazy? We do that all the time
As a Rush obsessed Dad who only saw them in concert twice and still thinks about those shows almost daily... accurate.
Geddy was asked what YYZ stood for. It was the luggage tags that me they were home.
I'm impressed you got Rush right and chose a reasonable song
I'm hyped for the music video tomorrow charles!
As a dad and drummer you got it right.
I just want to hear awesome, amazing bass riffs... AND YOU'RE NAILING IT!
6 get me always. Sometimes I have to back to that video just for remind.. Jack White.
You are obscenely talented . That’s a lotta work you’ve put in.
Well played brother.
Love that 1988 Metallica
Look up "...And Justice For Jason" :-D
Mailed it.
Brilliant work
Hilarious and true. I'm both a drummer and a dad. Odd time signatures and YYZ are my jam! When I played baseball, my pitching warm up song and at bat songs were both YYZ. Probably one of the few who had rock instrumentals as their song in live games.
Yes on 1, 3, and 7. Next Short! Lets do this!
The dad sound seems to be what most bassists in church bands do.
It’s YYZ by Rush, which I know because I’m a dad.
Awesome, tell what Church band plays that.
@@SteveHolthof Any church that plays Hillsong style music seems to have a bassist like that in my experience.
Damn!!! You know a church band that plays THAT??? That's more complicated than explaining the holy trinity.
Funny because geddy is an athiest
I love that you not only are a superb player; you have a great sense of humor, too (with a bit of irony, as well...)
Drummers one really put that bass instrument to life
What I love about Charles' playing most is his roc-solid time 👍🏽❤️🔥
How did you know my Dad absolutely loves Rush?
I like what you're talking about, very thought-provoking, but my RUclips recommendations are going crazy after I watched this one. 😂
I'm not even a dad yet somehow, I feel attacked.
I think this was spot on. And great playing!
Jason Newsted really felt that 1988 part.
Yes, as a drummer I confirm -- play this way, keep it up!)
Truer baselines have never been spoken.
This.
Dude, that 1988 bass for the ...And Justice For All album really entertained Me!!!! 😮😮😮
And just like that, I became a dad
As a drummer, that drummer one is absolutely true. I hecking love weird time signatures.
The Internet: play like Charles
Love the Anesthesia pulling teeth thrown in there, lol. My favorite song to play, if I'm honest.
#4 upsets me to this day. Jason was robbed.
As a drummer I can confirm that I wish very bass it would either play jazz funk or jazz fusion grooves like that, it’s supper fun to along with
Love your stuff. Hadn't seen you in my feed for awhile
As a bassist who drew inspiration from just about everything from my life you just mentioned and have learned and played everything you just said....I laughed my &** off and you couldn't have nailed all that better. Hilarious and great bud, long time subscriber.
That Cliff era was AWESOME! I'm glad I got to see him live before his passing.
In some of those I would totally say that it was a Synth that was being played. Very cool
Loooove that you did Cliff…..so cool. I don’t play the Bass but mad respect to Cliff.
Ya nailed the Rush material... But you'll have to list YYZ again once we get to throw props to what we wanna hear from a quality drummer too.
Yeah, I’m a Dad… a very proud one!!
And if you haven’t yet, prepare yourself to get “Rushfied” anytime soon 👊🏻
Love to see you do Cliff Burton all the way through
LOVE YYZ! WEARING A RUSH TSHIRT!
You and Michael Steele. The best.
Dad bassist here.. .keep rockin that Cliff and Geddy!
As a drummer I completely agree. The first is 👌
That first one for drummers was incredible!
Dad, crushed it! 😂😂
Love the 1 string approach…
Love the Dad reference! Geddy's great!
Check out "Griftwood" by Ghost as a current reference....
THE DRUMMER ONE WAS SO ACCURATE GIMME THAT CRAZY SLAP
Spot on Chuck!
3, 4, & 5 YES
Hahahhaah, absolutely spot on on the Dads part, also cliff-era metallica
He really is one of the best bassist I've ever heard and I'm a 75-year old guitar player
got me with the 88. Still my favorite album though!
gonna hit some pulling teeth right now
Awesome, Charles.
Roundabout by yes
the fact you completely pictured my dad playing bass perfectly is crazy
Absolutely creative and hysterical man! And yes, the 88 Metallica was so true!!!
The first one SLAPS so HARD
3 was definitely my favorite
The fact that you had to bring Newsted in is perfect😂
