Billy is joined in the band by Prima Donna band members Kevin Preston and David S. Field, as well Green Day's touring guitarist Jeff Matika. Prima Donna have had a close association with Green Day over the years, and Preston had previously played in another Green Day offshoot, Foxboro Hot Tubs. Seems he is exploring a more pop rock project
I agree as quite a few well known members of bands do side projects like this (Tremonti, etc) usually while their main band is between tours or in the studio.
@Oliver Bayley Ha that's funny. I commented this two years ago and I don't listen to them anymore. Their new album is pretty terrible, but I don't really listen to any of their stuff anymore so this is irrelevant.

they did a couple of songs for that movie billie joe was in, must have decided to do a full project. it's good for billie joe to do other projects and be excited making new music aside from green day, it's a healthy thing to do
All of the bands he's in is either all the members of Green Day or fellow musicians that they've known throughout their career. I would imagine it's just a way to jam outside of Green Day without the stigma of having to produce Green Day wise material.
