Really good! No momentum needed, just climbed the hill with no problem....except for the initial slippery moment, but nothing else. Audi Quattro is really good!
Love the Audi Allroad! I've driven 250.000km in a 2.7TDi Allroad (2007 and 2008 mod). They were fantastic cars. I tried too park once - got a message on the display, when I pulled the handbrake: "WARNING: TOO STEEP TO PARK". Didnt expect that! =))
But, audi started making cars before auto union was in mind, they celebrated 100anniversity in 2009. Subaru started building cars in the '50s or '60s, and subaru where famous because of the rally too!
The AWD is a torsen center diff and open front and rear diffs. The Torsen is always AWD engaged and directs torque to the end of the car with the best traction. Since the front and rear diffs are regular open diffs with the ABS locking a spinning wheel. what probably happened here is the right rear and left front tires lost traction at the same time, and the EDL couldn't stop them. The center diff did its job, but the EDL can only apply so much stopping force.
It seems the electronic diff takes a couple of seconds to "clue in" what's going on and start working so you have 2 wheel drive for a little bit. The torsen limit slip design does need some slip to take up slack and start working too. Great car.
All Audi quattros except the SUVs and A3 use a Torsen center diff which is purely mechanical... then uses open diffs between the front wheels and rear wheels. It uses the ABS to stop a spinning wheel, but I'm not sure it can apply tons of brake force. If you have one wheel in the air, it should still be able to pull itself up. One front and one rear wheel without traction will probably stop it, unless the brake can stop the wheels.
Jensen full-time all-wheel-drive system to 318 units of their Jensen FF built from 1966 to 1971, marking the first time 4WD was used in a production GT sports car. While most 4WD systems split torque evenly, the Jensen split torque roughly 40% front, 60% rear by gearing the front and rear at different ratios. Subaru introduced the mass-produced Leone in 1972 featuring a part-time four-wheel-drive system that could not be engaged on dry pavement.
@akajambas - Sorry to hear your friend has had reliability issues with his. Mine did have a problem with ignition coils requiring replacement three times; however Audi recalled the part and covered the costs I had incurred for repairs, loved that. I am excited to see how the new Allroad built of the A4 frame will do here in the states, my 2004 is in need of replacement soon.
I owned that car, not an off roader, but a truly capable family vehicle, so much better than pretender SUVs. Loved it in the snow, it could drift nicely; only complaints were the engine hanging way up front and the weight. The new Allroad is not nearly as capable, nor unique...
for all of you guys saying audis awd suck because the back wheels started to digging dirt is because audi has 40% of the power on front wheels and 60% on the back wheels.... that just makes it awsome in the winter!
My dads Audi is 12 years old now, it's not crapping out more than the tachometer that needs replacement but otherwise it's a damn good machine. You have to take care of your cars, and that applies to all brands, of course a car will fuck up after five years if you're dumb and take terrible care of it.
@maybe000itsme The traction control has to be kept on, otherwise the differentials act as open. Ive taken the allroad offroad many times, and with the traction control off, it will just spin the wheels.
give me a good reason why..subaru has been making cars far longer then audi itself (excluding auto union which is NOT audi), and not like many people think, subaru started putting AWD on regular road cars before audi did..audi just got famous for it because of the rally...subaru has even helped Haldex to develop the newer generations quattro that some audis use...and i know all this for a fact since ive been working for audi/vw for years and years...so u were saying?
@drewnashty wheel span because it lost traction. with open front and rear diffs you can still get one front and one rear wheel spinning if they don't have traction. also, the wheels that are spinning are NOT helping, it's the ones that are moving slowly/not spinning that are doing the real work.
@lknchiro That could be it, but it looks to me that you just didn't have quite enough momentum coming up that beginning part, and you would let off the gas before the differential detected enough wheel slip to lock. The problem with awd systems is there completely open untill they system can detect wheel spin, or in other words, they will send all the torque to the one wheel with the least amount of traction until the system enguages. But i must admit, it did pretty well without low range
@bengtsson45 i drive a subaru, and i have to agree plastic EVERYTHING (but also so easy to work on yourself to avoid those hefty mechanic costs). the only car i'd replace my subaru with will be a quattro.
@Machster10 - Hard to find a better vehicle really, I wouldn’t trade my Allroad for anything, snowy roads, icy roads, very quick from 60mph to 80mph, can do 95% of off road you would do in an SUV, I have more ground clearance in my Allroad than I did in my Trailblazer; and fast, 130 mph in a 4runner would be a bit sketch, 130 in my Allroad is um it’s like 80 in an SUV. 140 mph or 150 would be fun but it is governed at 130. No wonder they call it the Allroad.
@lknchiro i think that on your first try the reduction gear wasn't really engaged (did you turned it on?), and when you back down and then set it in drive it engaged reduction gear and the car had climb it, quattro FTW and nice allroad man, i love black allroads:)
Before Audi even knew how to build four-stroke engines and limousines, had other brands such as Ford, Opel, Daimler etc large sedans and sports cars. Audi (Auto Union) built until 1969 DKW cars with two-stroke engines, Ford built at the time already 9 years with Cosworth Racing Engines. The first Audi 100 came from Daimler engineers. Audi has become just by marketing a premium brand and youll get cheap and vulnerable VW technology into a body with 4 rings which will cost at least € 4,000 more.
@cmbullit It also has horrendous reliability, which sucks. My friends allroad has been in the shop soo many times, he's spent about 8 grand on repairs for really stupid shit. It's a quick car though it pulls hard 40+.
...and why is that? Subaru develop their own 4x4 and it got nothing to do with an Audi system. Symetrical AWD in Subaru comes from that they wanted to balance their car like a BMW did+they made front shafts. GC8 for exaplme is in many parts of chassis like E30 modell from BMW. Subaru generally is using BMWs technology and that's not a secret any more. Btw. what I know is that Mercedes had invented 4x4 but Audi started to use it in cars...so what You've said in Your comment is not true :)
It all depends on how they were maintained. Even when you buy them used for $15k or so you have to maintain them like the $60+k cars they are. I've had mine for 6 years now and I just had my biggest repair bill yet...$300 for a vacuum leak. Everything else has been routine maintenance.
yes, i am aware of ∆y. i'm a 3rd year calculus student. you're just missing my point. 25% needs to have a context. 25% of "something." 25° is an angle. 25% is not. if i told you that I can walk 25% of the distance to my office and you don't know how far my office is, then 25% doesn't mean anything. 25% of 200ft is 50ft tall. if you just say 25% without units, no one knows what the total is. 25% of 180° is 45°? i dont care enough to stress about it. have a nice day.
przy pierwszym podejściu zamiast odpuszczać gaz, trzeba było go trzymać i czekać aż zaczną działać systemy EDS i TorSen... podjechałby bez problemu... taki podjazd za drugim razem to wstyd dla Audi... Moje lepiej w śniegu podjechało ;-)
Really good! No momentum needed, just climbed the hill with no problem....except for the initial slippery moment, but nothing else.

The most beautiful car, and the best!!!!!!! Allroad 2000-2005.
Thats crazy how the Quattro system works
Torsen*
Amazing car! 25% grade is nearly impossible with non-Torsen AWD cars. Good post!
good driver
But, audi started making cars before auto union was in mind, they celebrated 100anniversity in 2009. Subaru started building cars in the '50s or '60s, and subaru where famous because of the rally too!
Преимущество полного привода Quattro- это слоган не только для России, но и для всего мира)
i love the turbo whistle that that engine makes ;) i had one but it was far too unreliable
wooo i love allroads i was having fun in mine today until i bent a rim

Big respect for quattro system. (wrx owner)

pretty impressive for a road four wheel drive...

Yep...I have worked and driven Audi's...the all-wheel system is the one thing that I have NEVER seen break...

Das Auto
Подвеска на пневме ?

you have won the award for the home with the most challenging driveway haha just kidding nice vid

thank you Augustus Horch :D
fantastic
I have the sam 2.5 TDI 180ps TIP-TRONIK IS A AMAZING CAR ....
Without Audi, Subaru would not be where its at now :)
Best Car ever
Audi - the best car ever made
Maybe the 80's Audis, modern ones are top notch cars.
140 mph or 150 would be fun but it is governed at 130. 77 people drive subaru:)))
How does the all-wheel drive on this work? Why weren't the front wheels assisting the first time? Then you went up a second time and they did ...
Center lock looks sketchy.
But looks to be a nice vehicle.
@lknchiro i think that on your first try the reduction gear wasn't really engaged (did you turned it on?), and when you back down and then set it in drive it engaged reduction gear and the car had climb it, quattro FTW and nice allroad man, i love black allroads:)
Reliability nowadays is very good!
would like to a 3 or 5 series bimmer try that, no chance what so ever f getting up where as a4 and a5 would go up as easily as this
Great drive !
audi's quattro is a good system ok but i'm wondering what would happen if it was a subaru on that hill
most hardcore off roading I've ever seen
Jensen started it, first production 4 wheel drive car.
Audi - Subaru. Audi's Quality, Performance and Luxury, is unmatched compared to subi's.
gotta love quattro.
any person said audi Suck are stupid. he drove this audi 2 times with 2 setup. 1st with ESP on and 2nd with ESP off :)))
Quattro is the best 👍

@lknchiro he meant for you to turn off the traction control like any good driver would....
That’s nice and fancy, but did you change the timing belt yet?
@cmbullit It also has horrendous reliability, which sucks. My friends allroad has been in the shop soo many times, he's spent about 8 grand on repairs for really stupid shit. It's a quick car though it pulls hard 40+.

lovely car :)
AUDI
I would pay money to watch this driver try to climb a sand dune.
the best!!!!!
touareg an allroad. buenisimos
@Tutzzu I mean you had to accelerate and climb harder than the first.
Wow!!! Thats Greaat.
cars from 18 century ;)
Do you think the Audi RS three could make the same hill
+deanlawson1971 no its way too low
@Tutzzu It says "Audi climbing hill", not "good driver climbing hill". So stop complaining because you cant afford one yourself.
carro muito bom quando novo ! , Depois manutenção se torna frequente e cara . ( infelizmente )
@lknchiro also is one testicle lighter
It all depends on how they were maintained. Even when you buy them used for $15k or so you have to maintain them like the $60+k cars they are.

very nice :))))))))))
nice
good job
It's the other way around my friend.

@lknchiro yeah but lance was juice'in
przy pierwszym podejściu zamiast odpuszczać gaz, trzeba było go trzymać i czekać aż zaczną działać systemy EDS i TorSen... podjechałby bez problemu... taki podjazd za drugim razem to wstyd dla Audi... Moje lepiej w śniegu podjechało ;-)
MY 94 FWD OPEL ASTRA CARAVAN WOULD DO THAT XD
Ауди супер
audi didnt invent awd. they made it popular with thier rallycar.
@lknchiro Lance was on EPO and what have we...everybody knows now.
今、一番欲しい車デス。
No 76 people´s can not drive quattro :P
Other way around bro, 80s-90s audis was the best. All new cars are crap compared to C4/W124/E34
next time, take a Subaru justy (KAD) for this hill !
Climbing very very easy. But it's Audi
quattro power
KLASS
On stock tires!
Okay, what's better then?
VW makes brilliant cars, Audi makes even better cars on the sam platform.
You need to buy a Jimny man !
Go Volkswagen GO!
omg whata miracle Audi reached.. xD
@lknchiro the subaru justy is awesome, dont be a ponce
My very very old nissan 1968 could do this easily! ... and I am not joking guys...
they make nissan in 68?
+Dana Black He probably drives a cvt Altima
Yes... and yours nissan have pneumatical suspension, climatronic, 250HP and 7s to 100 km/h...
correct
