Australian as you can get The streets of Sydney and the Aussie people, utes, cars and dogs. The 1980s best ever time. Awesome Music and A Truely Great Aussie Group.
RIP Andrew ' Greedy ' Smith He was a true gentleman. He was a truly great song writer and musician. He was a very funny and cheeky guy. He was very tall and larger than life. Greedy was a very much loved icon of Australian music. He will be missed>
Yeah RIP Greedy :( Wasn’t this filmed where they came from in the Shire? Saw them at the Narrabeen Antler, Governors Pleasure down the Rocks under a ‘local band’ tag and DY RSL. The best!
I was 12 and I was there when they filmed this; what a day it was. Not only did it create a buz around Scarborough street but around the neighboring streets in Monterey. It's sad to see most of the houses gone. Not many people can say that part of their child hood was captured on a film clip.
My parents lived in Scarborough Street when they moved to Sydney. I was watching the clip one afternoon and they thought it was catchy and came in to see what the song was - then realised that was their old street and started reminiscing about who owned what and what's no longer there and the corner store on the end. Great song and a fun clip. Bonus points for the dog not leaving Peter alone! Lol.
Great clip, great song, the good old days the late 80's in Sydney. Like how the people in the street all get involved in one way or another & the dog at the end is a classic !
Whenever i told my dad as a teen that my boyfriend at the time wasn't treating me right, he would say "he's just no good for you, you deserve a whole lot better than that" Now, in my 20s and getting into this band, i realise now he was secretly referring to this song🤣
Love this video! Love how it was made in one take. Love the dogs. Love the song. Love the antics of the band. I wish it would've been made on my street.
We visited Scarborough St where this music video was filmed a few weeks ago. Sadly, a lot of the buildings in this video have been demolished. But it was still great to walk down memory lane and imagine what it was like back in 1987....
Great song and great film clip. It’s like an Aussie suburban version of “Bittersweet Symphony”. Great suburban scenes in one take. Loved all the hosing down of the lawns.
RIP Greedy, great live band underrated, wrote great pop songs year after year , if your not in a good mood after listening to the Mentals you have big problems !
This clip takes me back the good old times where life was a lot more fun than it is today. I lived around the corner from Scarborough St & I only just discovered this song was filmed there. Rockdale Council has a 12min video of Greedy returning to Scarborough St to revisit the few remaining residents that were there on this Saturday afternoon in 1987. (It can be found on the rockdale city council website). I will be going to Scarborough St myself today & see how time has changed things there. I feel compelled to find out. Keep up the great tunes Mentals you guys are a great band. ps the dog & the end of clip jumping on the guitarist is hilarious.
I will always like this tune. It kept me sane whilst sailing in the Gulf.....In the hanger we had a stereo, and when we played this tune (almost every day, for 6 months) it would always put a smile on my dial.
2 (yes, TWO) of my art teachers at high school were associated with MAA. One juggled on stage for the group (something to do I guess), the other was a friend of theirs at the Art School... both ended up teaching in Grenfell, NSW in the 80s...
RIP Greedy.. Thanks for the memories.. Thanks for the fantastic tunes of the 80's my teen years.. The energetic shows, you always looked like you were having a blast! You will certainly be remembered and certainly will be missed
This Track Would Definitely Be One Of My Old Time Favourites Since I Was A Boy And I have Loved This Track Since Ps It's Sutch A Shame About Greedy Smith's Passing He Was Such A Genius And Back bone Of This Band He Will Always Be Remembered Well Done ✅ Keep Up The Great Work
I think I've seen the mentals more than any band since the 80s. I got to meet greedy and what a nice guy, I was going through my drawers the other day and found a signed CD. Saying wally your mental as anything, love em. R.I.P. Greedy
There is a unique vibe to MAA. It's hard to describe. They were very much parodying ordinary Australian suburban life, without being condescending in any way. They were celebrating it.
Went through Google Street View today. The images are dated 2009 but from the images the following houses are still there: 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 40, 50, 58, corner milk bar As others have mentioned, other houses may have gone since the Street view images were taken. Remeber I am referring to 2009 images. Numbers 38 and 44 may have been renovated from the old home and not merely leveled completely. So sad as this was a typical Aussie suburban street landscape! And I echo all the previous sentiments: great clip, great Aussie band.
Remember seeing the Mentals at the Coogee Bay Hotel. Was a massive band back then. One of my fav songs. Like Michael Hutchence they only made 1 Greedy X
I used to live in Ramsgate, a nearby suburb and would often walk with my dog down this street trying to visualise the filmclip as I walked. You are right felizcrazyy, there are only a few recognisable houses left standing today. I often wonder whether the people in those houses even realise that their home is in this clip. Thanks for posting nzoz
Our national archive material.. seriously.. music n architecture..
God that’s brilliant. So Australian. Pure 1980’s

Awesome Music and A Truely Great Aussie Group.
80s and 90s were a tipping point and now we can see the changes. Yuk
Agree. Lived in Redfern and then Maroubra for the 80s. Life was easy , always had a job and the music was the best

I miss Mental As Anything , rest in peace Greedy!
@@David-sb7vg It was filmed in Scarborough Street, Monterey NSW.
Nailed it mate
Just look at those gorgeous houses (and cars). I wonder how many are still standing.
I had a look on street view. They start at number 18 Scarborough st and finish around number 62. There are a couple of those houses still standing.
The houses there these days are worth a few million dollars each. They had no idea back then how crazy property prices would get.
Mentals had the best music video clips, so authentic.

They were one of a kind
They were able to craft a unique style of music …
Ahhh ….
When Australia was
That song and that video clip
is so Australian.
Memories of The Mentals
Greedy Smith RIP
RIP Greedy. Thanks for all your years of music and entertaining!
music of my teen years.. Agree, thanks Greedy.. love your work always.
Sad news.
Can't believe he is gone
Whenever i told my dad as a teen that my boyfriend at the time wasn't treating me right, he would say "he's just no good for you, you deserve a whole lot better than that"
Now, in my 20s and getting into this band, i realise now he was secretly referring to this song🤣
It's 2 years today since Greedy passed away but the music most definitely still lives on
RIP Andrew "Greedy" McArthur Smith
Mental as anything was always my favourite band ❤❤❤❤

I played this song thousands of times until it sunk it and i made the decision and chose myself and my kids ❤
R.I.P Greedy. Cheers for the music of my youth and reminding us all to love what we do.
Fuck, wish someone loved me like that boxer loves the mentals.
That just made me laugh out loud like a loon.. thanx
Bwahaha right at the end the best :-)
Great song and great film clip. It’s like an Aussie suburban version of “Bittersweet Symphony”. Great suburban scenes in one take. Loved all the hosing down of the lawns.
Scarborough St. Monterey 1987. R I.P. Greedy. Watching this video being filmed was great fun.
@blue heeler yes it is Sydney
@blue heeler It is Sydney, suburb, Monterey, on the shores of Bonty Bay 1987
I love how at the end when he sings, "You deserve a whole lot better than _that",_ he seems to be pointing at Martin Plaza.
a highly underated band, these guys are an awsome aussie band, love em.
They were really quite big back in the day. Though they don't really immediately come to mind when talking about 80s music.
@@HouseholdDog Which is exactly why they’re underrated. Similar to Mondo Rock
If this was filmed today, they would be walking past units, duplex’s and flats. Certainly not to many houses
Oh wow.. will evry often listen and see the videos.. Danny
So Australian, music and scenery, we've all lived in a neighbourhood like that!! Mentals were always a fun band, RIP Greedy!!
What a legend, loved him so much, saw him in mornington, got a hug from the great man. Rip greedy. Your music will never die in my heart...
You’ll never be replaced.. you can’t be compared too and their was only ever 1 of you.. from all us Aussie’s we say thank you ❤️
The guy with the 55 Chevy still lives in the street!!
RIP Greedy... love this song and video clip. One long take.
Such a simple, basic video, yet so amazing at the same time.

one of the best Mentals songs. Seen them live at Selinas many times
the dog follows them the whole song. then wrestles them. good persistent dog.
Sheer brilliance form the 80s
This is magnificent!
This video clip is like the Australian version of The Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony". It's about as suburban Australia as you could get. Love it.
Mentals much friendlier though, not arrogantly shoving into people and walking over car bonnets....
RIP Greedy. A great vocalist in a great band.
Rip Andrew greedy smith thanks for all the great song's
I taped the Last Countdown show in 1987 and they were on there. Just amazing

Some of those houses are downright ugly. Great song though. Hard to believe it's been 30 years :)
Did you zoom in on the garage at 24? I spy the same car is parked inside :D
The car is still there on Google Street view in 2015 :)

saw the mentals last week and they still bloody rock!

Loved their voices saw them at Ryde Common. Just wonderful.
Sad news...
Amazing band, wish I had seen them live..
Were even better live. I seen them on the Countdown last show on ABC in 1987
A very unique band ....special in that they were like neighbourhood boys that you might know of.......what a loss to the industry!!!!!!!
You summed them up perfectly.
What a great concept for a video, it had that beat for a amble down the street. What a persistent dog!
Loved it back in the day, and love it even more now....its good for me!
