Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 is my personal favourite superhero film of all time.
spider man
is better than spider man 2
This comment is Legendary because I feel it is a very valid statement. Deserves millions of likes.
I think it’s the greatest superhero movie of all time.
I love all three of the Tobey McGuire Spider Man films. The rest of them are just ok.
A Simple Plan to me is one of the most criminaly underrated movies out there. How Billy Bob Thornton didn't win a supporting actor award is beyond me.
“Make it look like the bad guy did it, Hank.”
Agreed on both counts.
I absolutely love a Simple Plan. Its like a great Shakespeare tragedy. I normally can't stand Billy Bob Thornton but I thought he was just brilliant in this role. I love Gary Cole. I think this movie is just as good as Fargo in my opinion.
Great to see A Simple Plan get some love.
One of my alltime favorites.
Man I love Sam Raimi. We desperately need more of his flavor and damn shame we had to wait almost a decade.. drag me to hell is one of my favorite movies of all time, I went in completely blind and I don’t think I’ve ever had a similar experience watching a movie where some parts genuinely scared me… and other parts make you laugh or go wtf am I watching lol
Yeah I really enjoy his style. I hope he makes another movie soon.
I don’t think he is that good of a director
@@carsonpeterson758 I respectfully disagree, sam raimi is a great filmmaker
Yes I love Spider man 3. I never understood the hate either. Glad you loved it and put it at a great position on this ranking. Spiderman 3 is actually my favorite of the trilogy.
I could understand being underwhelmed (I was a kid and even I was kinda let down by Venom), but the movie isn't bad.
@@lex_rodriguez yeah I see the flaws in that but I don't care about the flaws. Every movie has flaws, but ultimately don't ruin the fun and good time anyone has with movies. I had a lot of fun on this one, and ultimately found the movies themes about forgiveness and exploring Peter's dark side very interesting and emotional. It was the first Spiderman movie that I saw as a kid, and I loved Spiderman ever since.
Its one of my guilty pleasure movies for sure and the bully maguire memes have just made it more fun now 😂
Great ranking
15. Crimewave
14. Oz: The Great and Powerful
Here on up I like all these movies
13. For Love of the Game
12. The Gift
11. The Quick and the Dead
10. Darkman
9. Spider-Man 3 (100% agree with you, this movie has problems but I will never understand the amount of hate it gets)
8. Army of Darkness
7. Evil Dead 2
6. Dr Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness
5: The Evil Dead
4. Drag Me to Hell
3. Spider-Man
2. A Simple Plan
1. Spider-Man 2
spiderman 3 is one of my favorite superhero films and everyone thinks im wrong
@@generalrygy4532
I think you have just been bullied to much by bully maguire 😀
Spider-Man 2 is wildly overrated
A Simple Plan is one of the most overlooked gems of it’s time. Bill Paxton probably gave his best performance in that movie.
Doctor strange 2 was definitely one of if not my favorite mcu film for how Sam Raimi directs the first mcu horror film so good and carnage filled. That movie and the Spider-Man trilogy I think are his best films.
W
Spider man 3 is underrated and the editor cut is great and fixes a lot of the issues in the theatrical cut.
It’s my second favorite of the raimi Spider-Man trilogy
My too
The Evil Dead is my favorite horror film ever and Sam Raimi himself inspired me to pick up a camera and film in those BADASS camera angles.
So glad someone else loves "A Simple Plan". It's a great film. Brilliantly acted by Billy Bob Thornton. Would highly recommend this film to anyone. Unsung classic.
Just so glad to see Drag Me to Hell at a decent spot, I saw this at the cinema in a crowd of people who just seemed to be completely engaged from start to finish; such an amazing experience that's cemented itself as a favourite of mine. Cannot have Halloween season without watching this.
By the way I actually appreciate your take on the original Evil Dead because I felt the same. First watch I thought it was okay but in recent years my love for it has grown exponentially, by far my favourite of the ED franchise.
As a note I'm not sure it's a nostalgia thing just might have been where your head was at, at the time because I saw Darkman just a few years ago for the first time ever myself and absolutely adored it. Ranks highly for me on the Raimi scale.
Nice list Cody 👌
Top 5
#1. Spider Man 3

My favorite movie from him has to be Darkman. That was a brilliant extremely underrated movie.
15. Crimewave
14. For the Love of the Game
13. The Gift
12. Oz the Great and Powerful
11. The Quick and the Dead
10. Darkman
9. A Simple Plan

6. The Evil Dead
5. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
4. Drag Me to Hell
3. Evil Dead 2
2. Spider-Man
1. Spider-Man 2
I haven’t seen all of his movies, but my ranking of his movies from what I’ve seen are:
1. Spider-Man 2
2. Evil Dead II
3. Spider-Man
4. The Evil Dead
5. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
6. Army of Darkness
7. Spider-Man 3
I really liked them all, and I loved Multiverse of Madness!
I'm VERY mixed on MoM
@@JaceDeanLove Same, but for me the good outweighs the bad so 6/10 for MoM
Fun Fact A simple plan was on Roger Eberts top 10 best movies list for 1998
Thank you so much for picking Spider-Man 2 as your number one pick! It’s my favourite film!
1.Spiderman 2-The train scene. Nuff said.
2.Spiderman-One of the best origin movies ever. Heartwarming and amusing in the best ways and really the template for the MCU as it sits.
3Army of Darkness-Goofy as all gets out, fast moving and gooey as all gets out.
4.Evil Dead II-I like the remake but with money aspect, the most memorable of the franchise and Ash at his best.
5.Army of Darkness-Goofy as all gets out, fast moving and gooey as all gets out.
6. Evil Dead-A memorable indie horror flick with a great set of concepts and Campbells star turn for the ages that ascetically can't help but feel as cheap and disposable as the Jason movies. Not the most memorable of the bunch but still really good.
7.Doctor Strange into the Multiverse of Madness-A terrifically stylistic horror blockbuster with a game cast, some real personality and a refreshingly straight forward story that still feel weighty and complex.
8.Oz. The Great and Powerful- I have a soft spot for this one. Its fun, easy to watch and has a really good cast. Always liked this one.
9.Darkman-A solidly fun horror throwback with a good cast and a great precursor to Raimi's eventual Spiderman movies, like Cody said, good but not great. Can't wait for the sequel.
10.The Gift-A really cool surprise. Love the cast, good atmosphere and this is up there with A Scanner Darkly for Keanu's best work. Not great but underrated.
11.Spiderman 3-I kind of agree with Cody on this one. A lot of the magic is still here but it's a little overloaded and unwieldy. Still as watchable as the other two even though it's a mess.
12.Crimewave-A good precursor to Raimi's style in Evil Dead and the rest but uneven, cheap and kinda dull.
I love all three Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies
Holy shit he did The Quick and the Dead!? One of those movies in your dad’s VHS collection types I saw all the time as a kid. No wonder Superman hated him, I loved Gene Hackman as a bad guy.
The first Sam Raimi Movie that I watched was Spider Man 2002 which was my first M Rated Movie
Darkman is a super underrated Raimi film, while not perfect, it has some trippy visuals
Great to see some love for a simple plan, so underrated
I agree with you about spider man 3. It was the first Spider-Man I ever watched so maybe some nostalgia but even when I rewatch It I still love it.
My top 5 favorite Sam raimi films:
1. Spider man 2
2. Evil dead 2
3. Spider man
4. Army of darkness
5. Doctor strange 2
A Simple Plan is like a darker Fargo. A neo noir that is as sad as it is tense. Happy to see it in the top three.
Solid list - glad you threw A Simple Plan some love. Even *I* forget how much I like that one.
Ones I’ve seen:
1. Spider-Man 2 (2004) (probably one of the best comic book films of all time, arguably by some, the best. Great script, great hero and great Villain.
2. Spider-Man (2002) (changed the comic book genre in a great way)
3. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) (I love the MCU and Raimi brought in horror elements while still going with the formula. But it’s still a slight risk. And a lot of fun)
4. Spider-Man 3 (2007) (this movie doesn’t completely work, but it works better than it doesn’t. The themes are wonderful even if forced. It’s a movie that gets better over time for me.)
5. Darkman (1990) love the campiness of this super-hero revenge tale. And Liam Neeson was great in this.
6. The Quick and the Dead (1995) a fun little escapist western that doesn’t hold up for me.
7. Drag me to Hell (2009) been a long time since I’ve watched it, but it’s always had an interesting premise.
8. Oz…the great and powerful (2013)--just unmemorable for me. I don’t hate the Wizard of Oz, but it’s something I’ve appreciated it. This movie doesn’t hurt it, but doesn’t honor it either.
Haven’t seen any of the others on his filmography. :(
I know of the Evil dead movies, I just haven’t seen them all the way through. I need to lol
If you dig really crazy, fun horror then check out Evil Dead 2. It’s basically a higher budget, more fun re-do of the first one.
Sam Raimi is my 11th favorite movie director (behind Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, James Cameron, Tim Burton, Peter Jackson, Wes Anderson, Robert Zemeckis, George Lucas, Michael Bay and Chris Columbus)
Great list Cody !!! SAME HERE Spiderman 2 was the biggest summer blockbuster when I graduated Highschool back in 2004...Fun times !!
Evil Dead 2 - In my top 5 favorite movies. I have rewatched this so many times in my life since my buddy in high school introduced me to the Evil Dead
Spider-Man 2 - Perfect superhero sequel
Quick and the Dead - I love westerns and this is one of my favorites. An amazing cast and I love how he shot it. I can rewatch hackman's speech any time and get chills
Evil Dead - One of my friends in high school was a huge Evil Dead fan and lent me all 3 on VHS and I've been hooked ever since
A Simple Plan - Fantastic movie. This, Frailty, Near Dark and Aliens are my go-to Bill Paxton movies
Spider-Man - Not my favorite version of Spider-Man but it was groundbreaking. Not a huge Toby fan, but he does well
Multiverse of Madness - Need to rewatch it, but I walked out of the theater happy for sure. I love how Scarlet Witch has grown as a character throughout the series
Army of Darkness - 4th of the Evil Dead movies when I rank them, but still a blast to watch. So quotable
Drag Me to Hell - I love this one. After years away from the Evil Dead style of movies he killed it here
The Gift - Underrated. I've always liked this one and what a cast
Darkman - This has slid down the list since I first saw it. It is kind of goofy, but I still love it.
Crimewave - Haven't seen this since high school. I do want to watch it again to see if I'd appreciate it more
Spider-Man 3 - never been a fan. It's not one of the worst comic movies, but it was very underwhelming. J Jonah is the best part of the movie
Never seen
Oz
Love of the Game
My top 5 favorite movies ever made are
A Nightmare on elm street
Evil dead 2
Ghostbusters
Batman
Beetlejuice
Army of Darkness is number one for me, I watched the hell out of it as a kid and teenager. I actually had no idea it was part of a trilogy. But man it’s my favorite. Close second is original Spiderman. Awesome list as always!
My top 10 Sam Raimi movie's
1- Evil Dead
2- Evil Dead 2
3- Spiderman 2
4- Army of darkness
5- Spiderman
6- Drag me to Hell
7- Simple plan
8- Dr Strange 2
9- The Gift
10- Dark man
I always enjoy your rankings because our opinions are usually quite different, and I love hearing why you like things that didn't quite work for me. That said, I was thrilled to hear how much you love A Simple Plan, which has always been a favorite of mine. Great list as always!
list of sam raimi movies i saw (i only saw 5)
6. army of darkness (still really great)
5. spider man 2 (apologies but still really great)
4. spiderman (excellent)
3. evil dead (interestingly gory)
2. spiderman 3 (such a great comedy)
1. evil dead 2 (jeez this is amazing)
11:40 I love Spider-Man 3 as well I've always loved the heart of these films
Apparently the Editor's Cut of Spiderman 3 is suppose to be the better version. I have it, but I'm saving it to watch next time I watch the trilogy. I also enjoy #3. I like it the same way I like Return of the Jedi. There exist a fan cut of all three Evil Dead movies spliced together without the recaps. I've seen it and it's interesting
Enjoyed this! My Top 5 Super-Hero films are Superman:The Movie, Iron Man, Spider-Man 2, Captain America: Winter Soldier and Avengers: Infinity War
This man helped create one of my favorite film trilogies, the Toby Maguire Spider-Man trilogy.
Great video, there are a few movies that I didn’t realize that Sam raimi directed. I believe that darkman kind of ended the friendship between bill Paxton and Liam neesone . Bill Paxton auditioned for darkman, he told his friend Liam neeson about it, Liam went to audition and got the part. I heard that bill and Liam was not on speaking terms either since then or for awhile. Anyway, keep up the great work.
I always recommend to people, Sam Raimi’s THE GIFT. It’s such a great movie.
It didn't do much for me. I felt like Raimi was restraining his style to do a traditional movie. I felt his style would have made it better for me.
A simple plan was an amazing piece of filmmaking and in my opinion it is very underrated
Cody,
I’m a lifelong Raimi fan and your rankings are spot on. I appreciate the context on wack movie and I completely agree.
My top five favorite Sam Ramini films are Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Spiderman, Spiderman 2 and Dr. Strange the Multiverse of Madness. This was a good ranking video Cody. Keep up the great content.
I have the book of the Quick and the Dead... I honestly had no idea there was a movie adaptation, let alone directed by Sam Raimi. Ya learn something new every day I guess lol
Of the ones I've seen I'd say Spider-Man 2 is my personal favorite; It's one of the small amount of Marvel movies I really enjoyed and didn't have too many flaws that bug me along with, The other two Raimi Spider-Man movies, Iron Man, most of the Fox X-Men Franchise, Both of the Deadpool movies, Spider-Verse, & The Guardians of the Galaxy Movies.
Love Spider-Man 1 & 2 and The Evil Dead, enjoyed Doctor Strange 2 despite its flaws, and A Simple Plan is an awesome thriller that feels like a true Coen Brothers/Raimi collaboration, more than the actual collaboration in Crimewave. Also Darkman is so damn fun. Adore Sam Raimi, hope he keeps it going!
I was going to say that Drag Me to He'll is my favorite Raimi, but I completely forgot about A Simple Plan! What a stellar movie. Wish he did a few more like it. Unfortunately, the Spidey-flicks just don't hold up as well to me now because of the camp. I still recognize 2 for the masterpiece it is, but Dunst really takes me out of it. I still credit her best performance as Interview with the Vampire. But, that's just where my taste is now versus where it used to be. To be fair, though, Army of Darkness is still the only Evil Dead film I've seen and I've been meaning to correct that for years.
I always look forward to these list of movies from the director filmographies… awesome top 10 Cody 🤟🤟
Dude as a horror fan, Doctor strange 2 is my new favorite mcu movie. They got away with so much, and there's so much dread prominent the whole way of the movie. The cloak of the dead at the end was so metal!
I highly enjoyed it!
Awesome list Cody! I haven't watched any of the movies under 10 so glad I am not missing much there. My ranking for what I've seen would be this.
7) Army of Darkness
6) Spiderman 3
5) Drag Me to Hell
4) Spiderman 2
3) Spiderman
2) Evil Dead 2
1) The Evil Dead
The worst thing about ‘The Gift’ is Hilary Swank’s hair. That was the scariest thing in that film.
Another great video and list!
Out there in the multiverse, there’s a Ghost Rider movie directed by Sam Raimi and I wish I could see it. Hope somehow if Sam doesn’t go back to Horror we can get him to do something else ‘supernatural’ in the MCU
My list is unpopular but it goes
8.Dmth
7.Multiverse of madness
6.Evil dead 2
5.Spiderman 2
4.Spiderman
3.The evil dead
2.Spiderman 3
1. Army of darkness
Great list
Wow
Evil Dead II at that spot?
There are no words
I have legit never heard of A Simple Plan, but I will watch it now.
Enjoy!
Awesome video! I honestly haven't seen all of Sam Raimi's films, but the Spider-Man films were the most well remembered for me.
To this day,the original Spider-man trilogy is still(and probably always will be)my all time favorite franchise. The first 2 are classics and while part 3 is flawed,it is still a damn good movie with great action, themes and heartfelt emotion. I will fight all day to defend this film. I am disappointed that Venom was wasted, but I LOVE the film. Always have, always will.
1. Spider-Man
2. Spider-Man 2
3. Spider-Man 3
4. The quick and the dead
5. A simple plan
6. Evil dead 2
7. Evil dead
8. Army of darkness
9. Oz the great and powerful
10. For love of the game
11. The gift
12. Darkman
13. Doctor strange and the multiverse of madness
14. Drag me down to hell
15. Crimewave
I think all these are pretty much good to great films except crime wave because it’s just too cheap but nothing beats his Spider-Man films to me. Honestly I find myself watching quick and the dead probably the most out of all these. Sam has a way of taking the most genetic scripts/plot and turning them into something special that hits you in the feels.
Top 5
5. Drag me to hell
4. Evil dead
3. Evil dead 2
2. Spiderman
1. Spiderman 2
Spider-Man 3 was actually pretty solid. It was the least of the Raimi Spider-Man movies, but still a super fun movie
I hope I’m not the only one who has seen FOR LOVE OF THE GAME 😂
I skipped over that one crimewave and oz haha
My Sam Raimi movie ranking(not have seen every film by him)
1. The Evil Dead(1981)
2. Evil Dead 2
3. Spider-Man
4. Army Of Darkness
5. Drag Me To Hell
6. Spider-Man 2
7. Spider-Man 3
8. Oz The Great and Powerful
Watch Darkman and A Simple Plan!
@@Dvdfco both on my watchlist
Great video, one of my favorite directors
The fact that Cody just did a Tango and Cash reference is enough for this video to get a like!
YES!!!
I want Sam Raimi does another Doctor Strange movie especially if he wants to I want more of Sam Raimis style in the Marvel movies I hope Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire do another Spider-Man movie
He should do the third one cause I’m sure it’ll have even more horror elements since it’s in the dark dimension
my ranking of raimi's films would go as follows:
10. spiderman 3 (tolerable, But worst perfomance by the guy who plays venom)
9. oz the great and Powerful
8. a simple plan
7. crimewave
6.spider man 2
5.spider man
4. army of darkness (this is the Only Evil dead installment that i tolerate cause of the comedy, the Other two i ignore)
3.for the love of the game (this is a interesting film, i think costner does a good job in the film)
2. the quick and the dead (this is a fun western, raimi does a terrific job creating a western that people like, that has a great cast)
1. Darkman (this is a action film that people like, i myself like neeson's movies, i dont mind the fact that people love to quote him for humor, the fact that people love to revisit this film is probably because he now has a action movie persona in movies such as taken and now Blacklight, But neeson is in other types of movies too)
I think your right, I love Darkman and think you would have liked it more seeing it back in the day.
Tends to be the case with a lot of movies unfortunately.
@@CodyLeachYT I would have put Evil Dead 2 as my number 1, Spiderman 2 as no 2 and Darkman as my number 3. Apart from those, I'm pretty much with you all the way on the others. I hated Evil Dead 2 at first but I watched that, Aliens and First Blood every day for 15 years as they were the only VHS tapes we owned so you can see why I hold them in such high regard now. A Simple Life was a good one, kinda reminded me of Fargo
in a way. TBH there isn't a Raimi film I haven't watched that I enjoyed. The only 3 I haven't seen are Crimewave, Oz and the baseball one as they didn't appeal to me.. I'm not into westerns but even like The Quick and the dead.
I enjoyed The Quick and the Dead, good, memorable cast and underrated movie
It was solid.
Can you rank Michael Mann movies some day? The guy has done some of my favourite movies of all time.
My list:
1. Spider-man 2
2. Evil Dead 2
3. The Evil Dead
4. Spider-man
5. Spider-man 3
6. A Simple Plan
7. Drag Me to Hell
8. Army of Darkness
9. The Quick and the dead
10. Darkman
Not seen the others yet. I respect your opinion but IMO Evil Dead 2 is one of the greatest horror comedies ever made and is just pure Sam Raimi genius.
Evil dead 2 is one of his best movies ....wow
Sam Raimi Is My Number One Favorite Voice Actor In All Time
Sam Raimi Directed Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2 And Spider-Man 3
Cody when you talked about going to see Spider-Man in 02 and also getting a PS2 and playing MGS2 it really took me back! I’m 36 so I fondly remember that period of the time in high school
Yep I always remember that day.
Oh man I didn’t expect your number one is Spidey 2!❤️ dude still as I’m growing up and rewatch that movie it hits even more 🕸🥲
Are you going to review the Evil Dead videogame on your gaming channel when it releases on Friday? Great video as always too!
Yes I will
@@CodyLeachYT nice. Thanks.
Great list! I don’t know why but I can never get into Drag Me to Hell. I wish I loved it. And completely agree with Evil Dead 2 and Spider-Man 3.
The best thing about Crimewave is that its failure resulted in Evil Dead 2.
Just imagine if Crimewave had been a smash hit and we got sequels to that instead!
I've always really enjoyed The Gift (Giovanni Ribsi and Hilary Swank also in that star studded cast). Obviously your not too fond of it lol but would you consider doing a review for it down the line?
I definitely think you saw Darkman too late. I've had that issue with a lot of classic films.
My ranking
1. Spider man 2002
2. Evil dead
3. Oz the great and powerful
4. Drag me to hell
5. Evil dead 2
6. Army of darkness
7. Spider man 2
8. Spider man 3
I have been seeing the drag me poster so many times online and I have never known that Sam raimi directed it
I cannot even believe you have Doctor Strange 2 that high! Holy Moly. I do share your sentiment on Evil Dead 2 though.
10. Drag Me to Hell
9. Evil Dead 2
8. The Quick and the Dead
7. The Gift
6. Evil Dead
5. Spiderman
4. Darkman (Without this gem, there would be no Spiderman)
3. Army of Darkness
2. Spiderman 2
1. A Simple Plan
Much as I loved Darkman, you really should watch Darkman 2: Return of Durant. In some ways, I like it more than the original. Larry Drake's Durant is a gem. Liam Neason was replaced by Arnold Vosloo, aka the original Mummy from the Brendan Fraser films. He fits the feel of Darkman more, I think I would've actually liked the original more if it were Vosloo over Neason. I don't remember the third film, but the second was absolutely worth a watch.
Finally, someone who loves the Darkman trilogy as much as I do. I totally agree that the 2nd film is better than the 1st, and the third film is okay too. The series is on Shudder right now and I would really like to see Cody review the other two. Maybe he will like them more.
Awesome, Cody!!!
Sam Raimi used a shot from The Beyond in Spider-Man during the spider scene crazy

Metal Gear Solid 2 AND a love of Spider-Man 3. You sir have my respect
I really enjoyed doctor strange in the multiverse of madness as well without a doubt my favorite doctor strange movie and i love scarlet witch in this man
A Simple Plan is one of my favorite films. Saw it in the theaters. Was blown away. I encourage everyone to check it out. So good!
Evil Dead 2
Evil Dead 1
Army of Darkness (im a big fan😬)
Darkman
Ash vs Evil Dead
Dr Strange 2
Spiderman 2
Spiderman 1
Spiderman 3
I only liked Spiderman (and dr Strange 2) for the Bruce Campbell cameos ...
I’ve seen Within the Woods (his Evil Dead precursor), it’s on RUclips. But it’s a short movie (about 30 mins), so to include it in this list would not really make sense, since it’s not a proper movie like the others. My personal Raimi favorites are Evil Dead 2 & Spider-Man 2. Awesome video, & I’ve been very curious to see this ranking.
I love Oz the Great and Powerful tbh, but I understand your opinions
Since Doctor Strange 2 came out, I've decided to get into Sam Raimi, only previously knowing him for the Spider-Man trilogy (which I've watched... a lot). I have now seen the evil dead films as well as being half way done the TV show. I'm obsessed with evil dead now, and am in love with Bruce Campbell whom I didn't even really know about just one week ago. Evil Dead is truly special
I’ve been wondering if people would do this
