Oh, to live in the old days...What a lovely film! Thanks so much for sharing! I love, love, love these old black & white movies so much! Modern movies can never compare! A pure, entertaining 90 minutes with no nudity, overly sexy scenes or vulgar words. Thanks once again for uploading :)

Writers in those days had to be very skillful to write a script that conveyed what was happening but without actually spelling it out or showing it. It took real talent which is sadly lacking in today's writers. They can always rely on special effects and the like to make up for their lack of originality and talent.

This film is a perfect example of how something so bad can actually be good. I enjoyed every minute of it!

For the crititcizers, between the early 30s through the early 50s and tv, the average person went to the movies at least once a week, more often multiple times. Aside from the radio, it was the major source of entertainment, and the movie mills churned them out in rapid succession. Quantity not quality was the order of the day and the audience expected nothing more and some popcorn. Nov 2021

Good post! It is true most of these films were the 'b' films in double features which people expected. You went to the movies to see the 'newsreels' which were like filmed news reports, cartoons, once in a while you saw a short documentary, and then two films, the 'A' pictures and the little 'B' films. A lot of these B films were excellent. Oh yeah by the way. The movies played all day every day and if you came in late you just stayed until the film showed again and then watched what you missed. You weren't thrown out of the theatre after just one showing. This was the way it was up until the 1970s. I can remember going to see a double feature. I hated the first film and loved the second so the next day I went to the theatre when they opened around noon with a book. I sat in the lobby reading while the first film played and then went in and watched the second film. I did this all day right up until the theatre closed around midnight. Nothing was ever said to to me.

Great post; in the 60s we were still going to the movies at the same frequency; TV was more acquirable but parents still sent their children out of the house by 12 so you caught the Saturday Mat with cartoons and the B movie before the feature, Great Post!!

Smoking cigarettes?! An "automatic" in her purse (without a "conceal & carry)?! A concert pianist with facial profile like President Nixon?! HORRORS!! Beautiful music and nice Canadian film noir. Thanks sallis65.

I so detest endings where evil gets a quick death instead of lingering in a cell awaiting execution.

I agree the music is not very good but Helmut Dantine was a looker when he was young. Easy on the eyes.

So Quebec could have been "Hollywood North"? Interesting. That would mean absolutely everybody would be smoking all the time. !!

February 15th, 2024. Good film noir. Still free for now. Noticed yt has many or most of these classic movies for rent because they realize today's films, for the most part, are pure junk. I wonder how long until these old movies will no longer be available for free. 🎦

Good scenario up to a certain level, but the movie don't really surpass an episode of a Nancy Drew mystery. Hitch was needed here, plus some better music than this one, that indeed didn't merit more than 300 $....

Good for this era. I've seen some of the bad ones and it was an unsophisticated audience. During the time between the early 30s and the 50s, people went to the movies at least once a week and more often multiple times. Studios churned out product like the movie mills they were, and no one expected award winners, just an hour plus of entertainment and some popcorn.
