I feel like it's a really accessible system for non-gamers. After a few days of playing BOTW, I came downstairs one day to hear controller buttons clicking. My wife (a non-gamer) decided to start her own game file without even telling me! Almost a year later, having beaten all sidequests, shrines, and bosses, we now just casually walk around Hyrule with the Korok mask trying to find seeds. It's kind of become a new game within the game for us. When the sequel comes out, I feel like we will have to get another Switch and play it in different rooms so we don't spoil anything for each other.

I don't agree I think the Switch has been mediocre than anything. The exclusives are pretty good but overall I would rather get the majority of games on other platforms, not to mention the lack of voice chat and messaging. there are so many features missing that i would like.
Breath of the Wild was definitely one of those games that took me back to high school, going over to a friend's house to play it before I could get it myself. That game was so hype for me and truly delivered on it. It's going to be hard to have another game blow me away like that! Great video!
The Switch has been one of my favorite consoles of all time. It has some of the best games I've ever played on the system. Xenoblade chronicles 2, Astral chain, Monster hunter rise, Mario Odyssey, Zelda breath of the wild, Smash bros ultimate, Xenoblade definitive edition, and the list goes on.
It's an absolutely remarkable console. I think a lot of people in 2021 get hung up on the ports or the graphics or the lack of a conveyor belt of constant first party games BUT the simple fact that this is a portable and docked console which competes with modern consoles is really the only major step that's resonated with me since the switch to 3D. It's just so different, such an amazing improvement and for people who can't just spend hours in front of the TV, it's literally saved the hobby! Love it!
Thank you for your awesome content John. I really love watching your stuff! Had some shitty times during lockdown. But when I watch your stuff it really cheers Me up! So thank you.
I'm 54 and the Switch definitely is in my top 5 consoles of all time. I love it. It has some fantastic games too. You should do the same type of video for the PS Vita. Another great portable.
Been gaming since 1982 and the Atari 2600, and the Switch is my all time favorite system. I don't even use it in handheld that much. It's all about the games, starting with Breath of the Wild.
I've only had my Switch for 3 months but I've loved it, and I've discovered some of my favorite games of all time on it, like Octopath Traveler and Xenoblade Chronicles
Octopath is one of my favorites of all time as well. Can't wait to find a good collectors edition to purchase since I missed them in stores. I just started Xenoblade Chronicles as well 5 mins ago 😀
@@brandonconstantine3853 For real man! The soundtrack is one of the best game OSTs I've ever heard👌 And have fun with Xenoblade bro, it is quite the experience
I was a great supporter of the Wii U and was left so disappointed so it took me while to get my Switch but since I did and have seen the success - so Happy!! Many great games.
I'm an enthusiast as well, I have a Switch and it's... adequate. Nothing revolutionary. But please keep in mind that I don't use it in portable mode, I have little interest in portable gaming so to me it must sell itself as a console. As a console it's... fine.
I completely agree. It almost never leaves my dock and I treat it like a console. Nothing particularly impressive about the Switch's hardware, especially with all of the faulty Joy-Cons issues. Some of the exclusives are absolutely incredible, but a lot of them are mediocre or just straight ports. I played Breath of the Wild on the Wii U so the Switch doesn't quite have that game on me either. I really want to like the Switch more, but I just have so many reasons not to.
I'd really like to see Metroid Prime 4 and a Metroid Prime Collection. Octopath Traveler, Fire Emblem 3 Houses, and the Turok ports were a nice suprise.

Johnny thank you for bring you . You are truly one of a kind with your passion for games and I can relate to your story's and the feelings you get from video games.
I love the PSVITA. I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to lay back of a sofa, get cozy, or on lunch at work and play. When I saw the Switch announced, I thought "holy crap, this could be the Vita2." And for the first time ever in my life, I decided to pre order a console and get it launch day with Breath of the Wild. I remember thinking to myself "Nintendo, please don't let me down, I am putting so much faith in you on this." To say this is the Vita2, is an understatement. I swear to god I have played more hours on the Switch, than the PS3, PS4 and Xbox one combined. I put 200 hours into Breath of the Wild, I just completed FFX12. Completed both FF7 and FF8 on the Switch and countless other games. (Especially Blaster Master Zero 1 and 2, which I consider some of the best indie games to come out on the Switch). I can be a graphics snob, but for the first time I found myself waiting for games to come to Switch, or buying the Switch port because I knew how lovely it would be handheld. I remember during the first 2 weeks of getting the system, at lunch at work I was playing BOTW and just awe struck with how beautiful it looked and even now, I wonder how they pulled it off. I can only hope they release a new Switch model to compete with the PS5 and keep those miracle ports going.
@@axogreen876 I'm currently playing Persona 3 on the Vita and I was thinking recently how amazing it would be to release the SMT 2D games on Switch as a collection.
The Nintendo Switch is my favorite console of all time. I got the Switch in a time that I needed it the most and I can't believe the amazing library of games it has. It surely is a very revolutionary console. Cheers.
I agree 110%, the more time goes on I find myself playing my Switch more than anything else.. I started playing LoZ:BotW again since it first came out and I couldn't believe how much nostalgia I felt right from the start. It was like going back to Ocarina of Time or something... It's complete gold!!
It's one of very few games I wish I could forget and experience anew. The freedom and excitement of discovery was something i haven't felt since Skyrim.
It blows my mind that it’s already been 4 years. It really feels like yesterday when the Nintendo Switch launched and I brought the Switch and a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild home on launch day when I was a sophomore in high school. I had by mom wait in a line in Target for me while I was in class and I was blessed that stock for the Nintendo Switch and the collector’s edition of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was still left. It was the first console I ever bought on day one. The Switch really meant expectations if not exceeded it with one of the best library of games of any console. I would definitely says the Nintendo Switch makes it in the top 5 greatest consoles of all time.
I absolutely adore my switch It's the first machine I've got in to RPGs on and its because of your videos, I've done dragon quest 9 then ys viii back to back off watching you and Ive been turned hahaha Just need to wait for ys iv now for the switch
Previous video you mentioned picking up Bravely Default II and said it's in the backburner for you -- Currently playing through it now, immediately post DQXI (true ending), and it's proving to be even more enjoyable than that instant classic. Huge JRPG fan such as yourself, most of our tastes are identical. You will fall in love with it almost immediately. Be sure to thank me when I've pushed you into one of your new top 5 :)
I’ve been bit by the Switch bug recently. The Switch Itch if you will. Grabbed a Lite for the wifey and we’ve been playing through our library. In its four years it’s starting to become one of our fav consoles ever
I love my switch, mainly playing JRPGs on it but I recently played breath of the wild finally and absolutely loved it and now im playing Monster Hunter Rise. I love my switch!!!
Cons -Stick drift -Framerate in a lot of games -eShop filled with shovelware -Still no achievement/trophy system -Bare minimum online service and social features. Pros -Hybrid model/Portability -Exclusives -Expandable Storage -Physical/Digital Support -Classic RPG support and Remasters
Great video, John! Favorite Nintendo console in years! We have 2 in our house. Standard model for me and Lite for my wife. So many great games. BotW, Mario Odyssey, Pokémon SwSh, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Smash Ultimate, Animal Crossing NH, etc. Once Prime 4 hits it might go down as my favorite machine ever.
For a few decades now, whenever I got games they were "my" games. Long ago my sisters moved out, life went on, and I was a solitary gamer, "the" gamer of my household. Last year I bought 3 Switches for my household and Nintendo has achieved what only they seem to be able to. My house is now a gaming community. When games are purchased, they are "our" games now. Even my mother has become a gamer with Animal Crossing. I bought Switches for my nieces and they Zoom with my mother and they play almost nightly with her, visiting each other's islands and giving gifts. I thought this would go on for a few weeks till they all got bored with gaming again... but no, this has been going on for 5 months now. My girlfriend and I are currently going through the platformers together; Yoshi's Crafted World, New Super Mario Brothers, and even some Donkey Kong Country. We did not get to go to Prom together and we're planning to have a Animal Crossing Prom complete with Spotify playlist and fancy dinner. I am a Sony fanboy. I haven't had a Nintendo since the N64. But once we got the Switch, we had to buy several because my whole family is just coming together in a way that I never saw with other systems. For all the talk of Nintendo not knowing what they're doing, they sure do hit the nail on the head in amazing ways.
Hey Johnny, I absolutely ADORE Switch as an RPG/Pixel Art gamer from the orignial Famicom days. It is a nostalgia trip that brought so many awesome "oldschool" feelings back.
The Switch has probably become the most important console in my life. I mean first, as a console I love the fact that it has the docked modes and the handheld mode. It has motion controls as an option but it's not built as the feature of the console so games don't need to have it. It also has the pro controller which is great. More importantly the Switch really helped me with important life choices. I had to end a relationship of a long time because things were not working out for us, but the Switch played an integral part of that. We both changed as people over time and she became less and less of a gamer and the Switch allowing me to just realize gaming is my passion and always will be, and that by being together we would never work out in the long run. On a happier note, me and my current gf have been good friends for 10 years before we fell in love and we really bonded over a lot of switch games. She loves Nintendo and JRPGs which I do too and I feel like the Switch really helped us bond closer and eventually realize hey we might actually be perfect for one another. So yeah, the Switch is a pretty powerful system in my book.
The Switch is the first Nintendo console I’ve ever owned, and my first new console since I got a PS2 when I was ten haha. Experiencing my first ever Zelda game (Link’s Awakening), as well as Super Mario Wii U Deluxe and Let’s Go Pikachu has been an absolute joy.
Another great video sir!! Just a small critique ( not trolling) your video looks a little blown out this time around. Anyways, thanks so much for making us all so happy :)
Great Video! As an Indian, Switch is not officially available, thus got the imported version from Amazon (Switch Lite). Have always had a PlayStation and before that Dreamcast as well. Had always loved my Vita. Thus, when I managed to get the PS5, decided to go for the Switch Lite as a replacement for Vita (my first Nintendo Console since NES). Man the experience has been so great. In fact, have played more of Switch than the PS5, absolutely loving it. Just love the portability of it. Wrapped up Paper Mario, Links Awakening and Super Mario Odyssey. But now, I am experiencing stick drift, and as Nintendo is not officially available in India, there is no warranty. Will look for 3rd party repairs. The stick drift is absolutely crap, only a 100 hours in and it’s gone. Apart from the drift issues (which is pretty big), am absolutely loving my Switch Lite. It just begs you to play it. It has given me the same kind of joy which the DreamCast had given me 🙂
The 2D scrolling shooter options are incredible, most of them available in physical copies. The Japanese import Cotton is my latest one. No region lock either, a huge plus!
Despite all of the hardships I faced personally. Family death, finiacial trouble ,losing my fiance of 10 years. The hardest thing still to do was standing in that Gamestop parking lot as i walked to trade it in for money. I gave it a soilders salute and shed tears as i left. I promise Im going back to get my baby.
I love your videos johnny.. dragon quest , zelda, mario, wonder boy and so many other awesome games to play on the switch..yes i have enjoyed the hell out of my nintendo switch
I didn't play the Switch until the Lite came out. I knew I was going to love that little thing. The best tech purchases I've ever made are my Switch Lite and my Kindle. They both saved me from boredom during the pandemic as well.
I love your videos. I found you during lockdown and subscribed instantly. I have a love for Street Fighter 2 is also. Brilliant game and memorys. Can you do a video run down of all the games and stuff on your shelves behind you? I have seen some stuff and I'm trying to identify titles etc. Looks interesting. Happy Gaming
I'm a big gamecube guy and I love the Switch. The Switch has a lot of great 3rd party games, but I feel it lacks some real bangers like Eternal Darkness or Rogue Leader.
Still remember getting My Switch day 1 and waiting in line with everyone for hours. We were all super excited & talked about the games to come. And still the best launch of any console for me personally spending months playing BOTW every day.
The Switch brought back my love for gaming. The simplicity of it really appeals to me and getting to bring current gen exclusives as well as some amazing 3rd party ports with me wherever is something I appreciate to this day. Wouldn’t have been possible with other consoles since I travel so much.
I've been loving my Switch, it's pretty much become my main console, it's far and away surpassed my expectations. As for favorite games, of course Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a big one, and Animal Crossing, but I've been in absolute love with the fact that it's become not only an RPG machine, but has been having a huge influx of PSone and PS2 remasters, some of games that never even released outside Japan before!
As a gamer that all those years I was split between portable and home consoles (because I love them both), the Switch is a dream come true. In terms of games, I use it mainly for exclusives and indies. And let me tell you I use my Switch way more than my PS and Xbox. I play 20-30 games per year, and more than half of them are on the Switch since 2017.
1:14 Can we still watch that podcast? I remember Rerez did an entire vídeo discussing the Nintendo Switch on his second channel (The Hook) and two out of the three people were sure that the system would fail.
Nice video, switch is probably my favourite console... Nintendo have done a great job. I have ps5 but I always prioritise playing switch, I enjoy it more... I play it on my lunch break at work some days, I can play whilst my partner watches tv... it’s really brought my enjoyment of gaming back.
Got mine at launch. Can't believe it's been four years. You're right, where does the time go... I'm sure you love your switch even more being a dad. Portable Switch+Kids = Pure DadCore
I just got my Switch this past December and I wish we would have picked one up sooner! I've been busy all year playing as many games as I can. Switch is great!
The switch has become one of my favorite system and my main console. My XB1 and PS4 are pretty much for watching movies, shows and sports. I was not expecting to love the switch as much as I do when I first gotit.
I have owned my Switch for about 4 months now. My library is steadily growing. First game I bought was LoZ Breath of the Wild. Recently, Hades. I usually don't play roguelike titles, but it caught my attention, and I love it. I enjoy the Switch library, because some titles are not available every where else. There is a lot of variety, and something for everyone.
The Switch has become my most used gaming device despite owning everything including a PC. The pro controller is amazing, and as you said, being able to play at home on the big screen and then take my Switch to work and play on my break, or even lay on the bed and play is amazing
Love your enthusiasm for all things gaming (and the Phantasy Star shout out! I would kill for a remake of PS and PS II, and a remake or remastered port of IV on Switch)! The Switch has been an awesome console. I was really sad the 3DS' life came to an end, but playing the Switch has brought me the same joy I had way back with the GBA & DS and the last decade with the 3DS. But I never lost faith in Nintendo. Thankfully, they have always kept their finger on what was important: not the tech or graphics, or the image, but the GAMES. Here's to another four years!
I have had it since 2017. I've missed being this big of a fan of Nintendo. At the very least, every first party release feels like an event and most of them are high quality experiences, it's been amazing.
Other than joycon drift, it’s my favorite Nintendo console. So many amazing games. I held out during the Wii U era and found enjoyment in that console, and the switch was an improvement in almost every way. If they bring in some older games from old consoles again, it will win my affection entirely. It’s such a good console. Excellent content as always! Your work is so inspirational, the way you’re always so positive. I love it.
I love my switch lite. I was pretty late to the whole switch thing as I didn't get mine until last year around april but I love it, I love how compact and comfortable it is and I love the different games that are available for it
You know what I would love for you to do a video devoted to just the indie games on the switch like a top 50 . Help us find the gems I know when I go into the store I skip so many games and I can’t help but feel I’m missing something great .
The NES was my first console and I've followed them ever since with the Nintendo 64 being my personal favourite. But I have hardly used my Switch since launch. Occasionally i will have a quick session with it but it never keeps my attention for more than an hour. Nintendo is a company that frustrates me so much. They need to modernise their standards as a business, make a powerful system with true next-gen features and take online more serious. They are sitting on a gold mine of IP's that they do nothing with. With the level of quality that Nintendo is capable of, I could only imagine what their developers would do with a truly powerful system! Imagine a 4k/60 Zelda or Mario.
It’s not all about pushing graphics. We already have 3 other platforms for that. Switch is for hybrid play and pushes graphics for a portable. Monster Hunter Rise is the best game I’ve ever played, and on a hybrid system? Shoot. If anything, Sony and MS frustrate me- their games could be so much more enjoyable on a hybrid machine.
@@ActionJaxonH I'm so sick of hearing the "we already have other platforms for that" argument. Yeah, but those other platforms don't have exclusive Nintendo games. That's the whole point. We want Zelda, Mario, Pokemon games at at least 60 fps, 1440p/4k. Also, just played the demo for MH Rise, it looks and feels like it should be on the Gamecube. My god. Maybe I'm just spoiled with the PS5/XSX/3060 Ti, but after playing most games at 60fps minimum, it's hard to play 30fps games. Nintendo has no excuse to be pushing mediocre hardware, they have all the resources to do better.
@@Xanivert Imagine how sick we are of the "but the graphics" people. I don't care about graphics. Looks like BOTW? That's all I need. Looks like Monster Hunter Rise? Great. I don't care about graphics unless they literally INTERFERE with playing the game. I care about the gaming experience, I care about having fun and nintendo clearly knows there are a LOT of us that DGAF about the difference between one of the other. It's not a movie, i don't care. And the success of the Switch proves there are a LOT of people like me. If the graphics are the reason you're not enjoying your games then don't get a Nintendo.
The Switch is my absolute favorite system currently. And I have a PS5 and Xbox one X. I have been going hard on Switch collecting since day one. Love the imports for Switch too.
I bought it back during holiday period 2017, together with Mario Odyssey. Haven't regretted it a single moment ever since. Some of my favorite games have come out on the Switch, like Mario Odyssey, Fire Emblem 3 Houses, the entire Steamworld franchise, Dragon Quest XI definitive Edition, and so many visual novels.
After nearly 30 years of gaming, owning several Nintendo consoles and most of the handhelds, owning every Playstation including the PSP and Vita, and building several gaming PC's, the Switch is probably one of my favorite gaming platforms of all time.
My wife and I recently got a switch for christmas of last year but we only have one game for it which is octopath traveller and we were really enjoying playing the game together, but we haven't touched it in a while, and now that I'm working away from home and I left the switch in my wife's hands but I've been more focused on playing a lot of retro titles then current titles but I am completely amazed with the game library from the switch because even if it doesn't have the same level of graphics that the new current systems from sony and microsoft, I love the fact that they are making games that will retain an addicting timeless factor to them.

I'm 54 and the Switch definitely is in my top 5 consoles of all time. I love it. It has some fantastic games too. You should do the same type of video for the PS Vita. Another great portable.
Yeah, the library is very good. And I'm one of the lucky ones whose joysticks haven't drifted, so it's been a good experience.
I was having a terrible morning but lucky for me a new HCG was posted. Thanks.
Hope you are having better mornings since!
I'm pretty happy with mine. Out for 4 years and I've owned mine for 3.
I played so many JRPGs on the switch than almost any other new console out there.
It's so good for that.
It felt like the hayday of the 3DS for me.
100% agree I like console that's what sold me not the handheld that's a bonus and good for bathroom time 😂😂 bout it
I love my Switch. I don't have a lot of games for it or play it as much as my PS4, but when I cut it on, its always good times.
I'd really like to see Metroid Prime 4 and a Metroid Prime Collection. Octopath Traveler, Fire Emblem 3 Houses, and the Turok ports were a nice suprise.
Yes 👍
Thank you Johnny me and my son love our switches and we want to thank you for the content and info you create, and we hope Kim the little one and You are doing ok with everything .
I remember thinking to myself "Nintendo, please don't let me down, I am putting so much faith in you on this."
To say this is the Vita2, is an understatement.
I feel that way about the Switch Lite, to me it is the Vita sequel I wanted but from Nintendo.
@@axogreen876 I'm currently playing Persona 3 on the Vita and I was thinking recently how amazing it would be to release the SMT 2D games on Switch as a collection.
Switch is my favourite console of all time.
"And that's all we had and we liked it"
True bro, true.
I sold my PS4 to buy more Switch games. Not even interested in the PS5. I just want more Switch games. It’s my new favorite console of all time.
I love that Gameboy/Magnifying glass joke it really hit me like damn I got old 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I had the fat yellow gameboy with a big green square magnifying glass thing
The biggest flaw so far with the Switch/Lite no voice chat in multi-player. Currently enjoying Monster Hunter Rise ( my first game in the series).
I absolutely adore my switch
It's the first machine I've got in to RPGs on and its because of your videos, I've done dragon quest 9 then ys viii back to back off watching you and Ive been turned hahaha
Just need to wait for ys iv now for the switch
I love this machine more than any console, I love the old rpg's being released on the switch.
2:12 messed with my head
A broken recOORD! Haha I love when you say record. And great video!
Cons
-Stick drift
-Framerate in a lot of games
-eShop filled with shovelware
-Still no achievement/trophy system
-Bare minimum online service and social features.
Pros
-Hybrid model/Portability
-Exclusives
-Expandable Storage
-Physical/Digital Support
-Classic RPG support and Remasters
The monster hunter comtroller looks insane.
Johnny thank you for your videos. You helped me through depressing times.
Amen brother
Need more Cave shmups like Dodonpachi and Mitsuhemasama
And still 4 years later most all the best games that were on the wii u still haven't come out on the switch.....
This Switch is my favorite game console of all time. I love collecting for it.
Yellow switch just like me in my empty apartment! ❤️
The best console I've ever owned personally. I've now played at least twice as many games on it as any previous console.
I love your videos johnny.. dragon quest , zelda, mario, wonder boy and so many other awesome games to play on the switch..yes i have enjoyed the hell out of my nintendo switch
This was just on time! just got a Switch last week. Absolutely love it.
I didn't play the Switch until the Lite came out. I knew I was going to love that little thing. The best tech purchases I've ever made are my Switch Lite and my Kindle. They both saved me from boredom during the pandemic as well.
I got 575 games and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
You know, I'd really like to see a simple video of Johnny paging through his stack of Switch games with some gameplay footage
The switch brought me back to gaming, I wasn't playing for years and now I am back. Love it every single day
Still remember getting My Switch day 1 and waiting in line with everyone for hours.
4 years on
And they still haven’t
Fixed the joy con drift
Want a switch for my birthday next month. What’s that?
Teach me mysterion
Like classic retro consoles we will be finding hidden gems for decades on the system.
Yeah that's the neat part down the line. People going through everything and finding those diamonds
Holy hell!! That’s a shit ton of games!! Loving the Octopath Traveler music in the back
You think that's alot?...... I think I have a buying problem.
I love it.
Love your videos man, keep it up
I think it would be cool to have a lunar collection remastered for the switch
I love my switch lite. I was pretty late to the whole switch thing as I didn't get mine until last year around april but I love it, I love how compact and comfortable it is and I love the different games that are available for it
I’ve had the Switch since launch but only recently have I gotten time to play it for extended periods and I love it.
I love the music choice in your videos
I never expected to get another Nintendo JRPG machine after the SNES but here we are.
Do the gameboys and DSs not count then?
I love the Switch. Have been playing it constantly since Christmas. Go from playing Deadly Premonition 2 to Taiko no Tatsujin hell ya.
