I had it for a year now, and it is an impressive tool. For Europe, it is the best option, as all Chopper versions are overpriced here. The only wish I have is to have a better stop, that will work also for cutting at angle at precise length.
Good review although it would have been nice for you to chop some wood versus only plastic. Wood can tend to crush with these types of angle blade cutters. However the proprietary blades are a non-starter. Why they choose to not use standard single edge razor blades is puzzling. I suspect they'll say that the blades they sell, at a ridiculous price for 5 blades, are somehow special. I seriously doubt that there'd be a significant difference if they had used standard blades. in fact due to the V shape of the blade this tool is not a precision one. The section of the cut is not at right angles. It's not ok for as much money as it costs. So not so impressive, not so well-engineered You may also mention the less pleasant aspects in reviews
I think the price is about right for a decent tool. The experience was positive but it did have a tiny bit of trouble with blade distortion on one item, the angle profile at 45 degrees but that was also not a straight angle or good quality profile. I mentioned this in the Premiere chat. Don't quite see how you can get a square edged blade as all blades have a taper to get a sharp edge, no? It is pretty well-engineered and delight to handle and use, for me. No real negatives this end, it was loaned and I was impressed enough to want to buy it and I will do so. Putting my own money where my mouth is...but I certainly take your points and respect your view on this.
@@pbyfr I think you must have made a mistake in that comment and meant the other way around otherwise you just contradicted the first comment. But let's say you meant the chisel ground is better, a chisel ground would leave one clean side and one bevelled side at each cut wouldn't it? Necessitating rotating the orientation of the work piece if you want clean straight vertical cuts at both edges for repeat cutting or at least creating some wastage? It would depend if the bevel was on the outgoing or incoming side also I imagine. Would you want it on the incoming side or would the outgoing be better? Genuine question.
@@scalewarmachines With the V grind, you have the imperfection of half the blade width, BUT the blade would less bend than with a chisel grind. For have a good cut with a chisel grind with this tool, a thicker blade would be needed (and the issue you mentioned will remain). Unfortunately, even with the V grind, I have the blade flexing in some conditions (like dissimilar material strength, ie. cutting just one or two millimeters of thick profiles).
Too bad the blades weren't just standard blades. Also would be nice if the fences came in imperial as opposed to the useless metric measurements. pretty sure I stick with the US made XL Chopper from MicroMark!
I'm sure that EU based company will welcome the suggestion to cater only to the anglo crowd on such a niche market instead of the whole rest of the world using metric. Silly them !

I've been searching for a styrene chopper, a really good chopper and this looks to be the one!

It would be better if the angles were removable as well. Should be priced a little lower imo.

That's wrong, a V blade grind will cut straight, a chisel grind will always want to go to one side.

This particular Anglo is perfectly capable of working in both metric and imperial .
